Brings up an interesting point. Time to bring in tier 3 learning skills. Ones that require the others 2 levels to be at 5 before you can train em. ***********************************************
How could they know what we are going to do? We have no idea what we are going to do.

Agreed, as EVE brings in more and more content that requires Rank 3+ skills to V (Energy managment -> Thermodynamics, Logistics V for Triage etc.) give us all something to speed up the grind... ---------------------------------

No please, learning skills is just a skill grind that will just be another set of nessecary skills to learn...
It would be better to just raise everyones attributes instead...

I agree; or create boosters that temporarily multiply learning by 500% (5 points per second, instead of 1 per second).

THAT IS A HORRIBLE IDEA.
CCP has done nothing but turn Eve into more and more of a grind. The LAST thing we need is another retarded timesink. Start adding +10 attribute enhancers. Or better yet, cut the time it takes to learn anything in half. To all the vets who got shafted out of this new and improved learning time, give them the SP they would have gained to distribute as they see fit.
CCP has said most people leave after 7-8 months. Why? Because it takes so damned long to break into the higher levels of this game. In 8 months, you haven't even seen half what's out there. _________________________________________________________

Must add that I agree that it would be a bad idea to add more learning skills. Learning is a useless set of skills that should never have been added to the game. Just give everyone higher attributes to start with and forget the need to do these skills at all. It would work out the same in the end.

They'll have to consider it if they realistically want to have 300 000 people to Eve before 2009. Regular people do not spend 35 days for a single skill.

Edited by: Khan Dhu on 17/07/2007 10:45:57 The one thing that could be a gate about "elite" learning skills is the price.
Think about it...45k to 4.5m is a 100x increase in price. If the same pricing dynamic holds true, each elite learning skill would cost 450m, and the posited dual-L5 requirement would be a decent gate, so people who weren't blindingly rich or who didn't have about 60 days to polish off their Advanced skills all to Level V would probably be content with just specializing/training up their weakest stat.
It'd be interesting if they could code in a gate that people could choose only one stat to "specialize" in as well. Can't have people getting too smart.

Too bad if they put this in so many people would whine that they would change the requirement to something stupid.
CCP needs to throw a bone to people with maxed out learning skills.

1 ) Not more learning skills
2) Not more Implants + 5 is good enough
3) Just change skilltraining from 1 at the time to 2 or 3 at the same time. Training 2 skills at the same time would be enough already.
btw* Doesnt this discussion belong in dev blok?

On a serious note i've mixed feelings about this.
Sure, a 40 day train (orwhatever it is) for battleship V seems kinda excessive, but its a skill you only need to train if your going to train capital ships.
The secret with a new char is to specialise in a role & get the most for your SP's.
There has to be something that gives older players an edge & I think there are enough capital pilots out there, that just boosting everyones attributes seems a bit of a no go.
Maybe some kind of student/teacher skill would be cool, where players can develop 'teaching' skills that let them help other players with a small reduction in training time - it would open a whole new area of the game & services for teaching that may require some kind of components too.

Do you mean a new gang skill?, that way teacher could get all his pupils together and boost their attributes, while instructing them ---------- Gallente and Minmater Faction standings transfer service, fast and efficient service, 2 days to 5.0 4 days to 7.0. theres something really good about current skill points system.
it forces players to specialise. not only in races but also character profession including different types of industry and pvp (ewar, dmg, capital, gang assist, mining, production, research).
and i hope the game will be developed to specialise even more.

Just gradually bring down prices of implants, as is happening already, and the skill grind will easily get noticably faster over time.
I mean, look at the prices of +5s these days. or +4s, which used to be what, 50-60mil?

I agree 100%. Having played EVE since BETA and having left and come back 3 times since I started fresh with a new char about 3 weeks ago. And, if you specialize, it's not hard to become effective.
I agree also that older players do need an edge. Say that having all your basic and advanced learning skills to level 5 with a total of 40 million skill points will allow you to train one (1) skill that reduces all training times by 10% per level trained. At least as some form of reward for being around so long. The least CCP could do.

yes but they would have to be accessible to everyone for example more than 50 million cost for them would not work because x10 is the change from basic to advanced so have prerequisites of 2-3 other learning skills at 5 to be able to get them - because we all know few train presence to 5 ____ __ ________ _sig below_ the jet cans are made so that people that dont mine can get free ore

As a result, training times of high rank skills means that many players may not be motivated to pay next month's sub or the sub after that an maybe even the next one too. Four months later, they might decide to pay a month so they can switch skills to another 4 month skill.
