Tonight was a wonderful experiment in what works and what doesn't.
I started life four days ago in with my master training me with the basic skills to pilot a rifter and outfit it with a cheap setup. He keeps telling me never fly anything I can't replace. He's such a hard ass. He flys me around various systems which I find relatively boring. We come across a jet-can miner. I sit up in my pod and take note. I race towards the can and flip it without the miner noticing. I warp away to my safe spot and wait. I line up with the belt and wait some more. Needless to say I get antsy and jump to warp and land just as the miner is showing up with his hauler. He sees me and doesn't take back his ore. DAMN. Miner bugs out and never says a word. Too early, going to have to work on that. My master tells me to go back to HQ and pick up my hauler and fly out and get the ore as it's still good money. I do this and refine the ore and sell it.
After that not much of note happened, my master left me to my own devices and I flew around various systems swiping modules that people were leaving behind after killing the belt rats. Any place I can make a quick buck, I will take. All in all tonight was a good night, my master and I made back more than what we had spent to outfit the rifter, and we both had a learning experience.
Timing is key.

I rather enjoy writing in this style so i'll stick with it. Also if you can't laugh even at yourself there is no point in doing anything. I write these for my enjoyment and yours. So laugh, flame, harress all you want. My goal is to try and bring laughter to the world while causing despair. -=END NOTE=-
My second Night YARR'ing
My master told me to head back upto high security again until I have learned more and can handle low sec / null sec effectively. I am warping around the various belts and am picking up loads of modules that other pilots have deemed not worth their time to pick up from rats. Upon entering the one belt my master perks up and notices a gang of battleship jetcan miners. Oh the joy of it. Now to decide weather to mess with them or not. I first off decide to find out what all they are mining and how many actually have guns. I bookmark a roid at the opposite end of the belt and warp out and back into that point making it look like i'm no big worry just another guy killing time mining with a crap ass name. I zoom up on the ships and see that all the battleships have mining lasers attached so all i have to worry about is the drones. Only bad thing is they are mining plagioclase. They could have atleast been mining something decent.
My master sends me back a few jumps and picks up an old hauler that I had left laying about. Relatively small hold, fitted with warp core stabilizers and a shield booster. another cheap setup which if it blew up I would get more back in insurance than I spent on it. I warp back to the belt having bookmarked the cans and they begin to target me instantly. The drones are on me the moment the ore hits my hold. I tried to line up to warp but because of the close confines of where they were mining they zipped in and kept bouncing me. Another lesson learned. I watch the ship explode and my pod eject. I warp out defeated but ahead in isk. I load up the killmail and begin to laugh. I notice that nothing expect the warp core stabilizers survived the explosion. Almost 10k units of ore, the shield booster and my ship all exploded. Atleast I prevented them from having that small amount of ore.
My second night Yarr'ing taught me another vaulable lesson. Always watch your surroundings and the proximity in which others are to you.

Really, they *do* notice that paying the insurance for the replacing ship leaves them on negative numbers, right? Right?!

My third night Yarr'ing
My third night as a pirate, I learned another vaulable lesson. How to use the built in scanner. I played cat and mouse for roughly half an hour chasing a victim here and there. I suppose it didn't help that other pirates were also active in the area. After half an hour I decided to use the scanner and see what I could find. A smorgese-board of items popped into the list of various jet-cans, and wrecks that people have left modules in. Well to follow the path of thievery that is my name sake, I began to shift through and ended up with two cargo loads full of modules and drones that people have so kindly left laying about in the belts.
I load the scanner up again as I close in on the further belts and notice a different type wreck. "Gallente XXXXXXX Mining Barage Wreck" I warp to the location to find the wreck still intact and full of items. My master perks up at the items that I have found. He tells me to get in as close as possible as quick as possible. My heart begins to race and I know my master is anxious to see what all is left. As the window pops up my master and myself see that there are only a few T1 items left. One of which is a strip miner. I load the cargo into the hold and warp back to the station. Time to sell some of the "aquired" items. I notice that most of the items are selling quite well but the strip miner was showing a 60% below average market cost. My master informs me to check the price on the market and see what they are selling for in the area. Both of us decide to put the item up on the market for sale and turn a very nice profit.
I notice a few of the items don't even have a sell item button. I notice the name. "Pirate Finger Bone" My heart sinks at the thought of the lose of a fellow pirate. I move the bones to a special vault to store them until they can be properly disposed of. I say a few words and the time has come to chase down my next target......
-=NOTE=- Stay tuned for more updates as the life of a pirate unfolds -=END NOTE=-

Ahhh, as a miner/manufacturer I love this line of reasoning. "But, if I mine it myself it's free, right?". Only if you consider your time to be worthless...

well, not being a pirate type person myself. I do find it interesting to see into a pirates daily life. albeit rather boring. I hope it gets better soon otherwise it is a pointless "experiment" as he puts it.
Only thing reading the posts is to landrassa - if you actually read his post he states and you even quoted it yourself. "other than the time to mine" meaning he is taking into account the time it takes to mine and has written off the ships and modules that he is producing for this experiment as worthless until destroyed.
sorry to hijack the thread but - does anyone else see the bad pun that is his name? come on could you have not thought of anything better man?

Edited by: Apirates Lifeforme on 26/07/2007 01:01:54 Well I forgot to update the last few nights so this post will encompass a few nights.
On my fourth night as a pirate I began my trek through low sec and found a couple of different 0.0 gateways which I have bookmarked and have referenced for future usage. In one low sec system people were kind enough to leave newbie ships laying around for me to "clean" up. I began to practice on a few of the ships and noticed different timing etc. After the fifteen minute flag dropped i warped to the next system and found a cruiser out ratting. Thoughts began to race through my mind. Could a out of the box T1 frig setup take out a cruiser. Only one way to find out. After pinpointing the location of his ship, i warp in and find him just finishing up the rats. Damn. I engage and scram, web, and begin to nos him. He releases his drones which i begin to pop. Then i notice my speed dropping. Damn again. He had a web hooked up to his ship. This lasted a few more minutes and we both broke away and parted our seperate ways. After the engagement I opened up a convo to the guy and we began to talk about various setups and come to find out he is another new pirate to the eve-verse. I pass on some of the knowledge that i've gained and I add him to my address book for later reference. Thus concluded my fourth night.
The beginning of my fifth night found me back up in high sec with a nice orange glow around my name to other people. My security status has dropped to -0.6 with the few kills and encounters that i've had. The guy from the previous night convo's me and I begin to idle orbit the closest item on my overview while the two of us discussed various setups and skills. I was unaware of the fact that I was idlly orbitting another ship, a stabber to be exact. I open up local and see him smack talking about me in local chat. A sense of pride runs through me. I get tired of it and warp out to the next system. I begin to go from planet to planet scanning the various belts for possible targets. I warp in and who do i see none other than the smack talker from previous system. He has just finished killing the rats and warps out. Leaving me bait, the loot from the rat. I decide to pass on it since it is such an obivious bait.
At this point I warp out and move to the next system. As i'm jumping I begin to watch local more carefully. I jump to the first belt that I see a jet-can at and watch as "smacktalker" jumps into local. I begin to laugh to myself and watch my overview and see him jump to my location. He targets me hoping to bait me and releases his drones. I look at local and ask him if he's having fun chasing me around. No responds. Others in system begin to perk up and ask wtf? a pirate is whining? OMG. I answer them that I was not whining but simply asking another person a question since he was so adament about letting everyone know in high sec that i was baiting people. No answer. The others in local begin to laugh.
I feel a since of pride as I have my first stalker / self-proclaimed pirate hunter chasing after me. Thus closes the fifth night of my pirate life.

Your story sucks dude. If you're bad at the game don't write 5 paragraphs about it, just make up a cool story about how you killed a BS in a frigate. It might be a lie but I'd rather read it than this shopping list about different ways you got podded.
