I know there is no perfect ship. And I know that you cannot be prepared for all situations.
So I am looking for a t1 PvP cruiser. ATM I can fly gallente and caldari. Use missiles, drones, hybrids and projectiles. Slightly better shield than armor tank. Decent navigation skills.
So far I tried:
Sniper moa, blaster moa, ac moa. HM caracal blasterax plated or reped nos vexor, ac vexor, blaster vexor blackbird
The best performer for money invested so far was the plated blasterax. What I observed always is that you either need speed or be cap independent as much as possible, best is both. Seems only Minmatar ships match both conditions.
Goals: average cruiser PvP performance. Able to survive a BC encounter (myrm, cane etc.) - escape in hull :-). Needs not be a solo ship.
I don't need setups (I like to experiment). I'd need suggestions on strategies.

Rupture, orbit at 9km with web (Works wonders against smaller blasters because the optimal is so low) and your falloff allows you to hit from the 9km.

Edited by: Venkhar Krard on 11/07/2007 12:43:17 The blasterax (with repper or plate is fine). Just move in and fire or orbit at 500 and fire, if youre fighting a BS.
If you see you are loosing, align for an object.. hit mwd an pray.. you can try to swap the web or scrambler for an injector, which will giove you some more time if youre nossed.

Nos is the biggest problem with a thorax. with MWD and blasters, you are dry in a matter of seconds. that's what I do not like about Gallente ships (I guess amarr are even worse).

Cant tank its guns and scram, omen has terrible cap as i remember.
The rupture is simply the best T1 crusier in the game. Anyone who disagree hasn't fought one with decent skills. Fit t2 180's to it and you just wont loose in a 1on1. MASSIVE gun damage, good sized drone bay, good tank/fittings. Its all round perfect, if a little slow (but that isn't an issue with your range and firepower)

Edited by: Heelay Ashrum on 11/07/2007 13:22:57 imho u have 3 choises:
1) vexor ( plates, nos and drones) 2) thorax ( plates, damage mods, blasters) 3) celestis ( 3x damps)
This would be my choises.. in this order. the vexor is probably the most dangerous if u have hi drones skills, else go for thorax. On the other side the celestis is a bit "particular" ship, if have not reat DPS but u can simply put out of game your opponent. It's better if used in small gangs ( because of low dps), but can be used also solo against smaller ships ( cruisers and below). I doubt have the dps to breack a BC tank.
In any case chose whaterer fill your taste.

Rupture - 1600mm plate + resists, mwd + tackle, 180mm AC's + ecm drones
Vexor - 1600mm plate + resists, mwd + tackle, small rails + 2 heavy, 2 med, 1small drone
Both ships can engage effectivly from the edge of web range making them ships you stand a good chance of escaping with should it all go a bit pete tong. They can also survive/escape/chase off ceptor pilots.
Both ships do pretty good dps in comparison to other T1 setups, supprisingly good tanks combined with been outside the prefered optimal of most other pvp ships = win

I'm not entirely an expert on pvp the furthest I've been in low sec space was into a .4 system where I spent an hour being chased from moon to moon by a half dozen pirates until they got bored and moved to another system.
I was in a mission running ferox and about a month old. Haven't been back since. The thing is now my corp has certain longterm goals in 0.0 space so we've been thinking of going out in groups and my first idea was a group of electronic warfare ships.like your Blackbird. I can fly a Celestis.
Anyway my theory is if fitted correctly an ew ship can kill another damage dealer if that damage dealer can be prevented from dealing anything except cries for mercy.
Cheers
Highs 3 200mm rails 1 cloak (offline) Or a drone aug link
Mediums 3 damps 1 mwd 1 w|d
Lows 3 beta cprs Or 2 cprs and an od injector Don't pretend it can physically tank anything 'cept a r00kie ship.
Rigs 3 cap circuit rigs Or 2 CCCs and an inverted signal rig
Don't leave home without a tackler and dd. If not pick your targets with the cloak online.

After you decloak you need to wait 30 seconds before you can lock your target. Plus it nerfs your lock time. Loose the cloak if your going for PVP.

Rupture, Stabber, Thorax, Vexor, and Arbitrator are all fairly common and effective from what I've come across.
Just make sure you have all your support skills, and t2 guns and reps, otherwise you really don't stand much of a chance in lowsec.

True
I won't have it online if I intend to interact. I still like the option though if I'm omw to an op and happend to be solo in low sec though.

Rupture is prolly your best bet for solo stuff. The cookie cutter ship is 4 guns 2 nos, orbit to death just inside your nos range.
If you're doing gang stuff, especially with E-war help, the thorax is going to dish out a lot more damage as long as you don't have to worry about your cap. There are really 2 setups you see for the rax. 1600 MM 'tank' with small guns, or the 5 guns 3 mag stabs gank setup. 3 mids means MWD web scram, no injector to help with NoS (but I've heard of scram/mwd/injector dunno how they got the cap for it, seems like a quickfit setup In my opinion, I like the gank setup. No cap means you're not tanking anyway, 1600 is just more time to die.

Kinda depends on what you want outta the ship. Going for personal kills, or just making te enemy dead, any means possible.
If you don;t need a solo ship, and are hunting in groups, celestis, arbitrator, or Blackbird can be useful for screwing over your enemy to give gang mates easier kills.
Probably the Arbi for getting on killmails, as it shares the Vexor's drone bonus, while screwing over turret users with tracking disrupters.
But for pure damage, nothing rally beats the Thorax.

For the celestis you dictate range with the mwd II and disrupt warp from 24km with a t2 w/d - so orbit at about 23-20km unload you rails make sure the target isn't trying to make a run for it by orbiting closer and keeping the w/d on if he's trying to get within 3damp nerfed targetting range to use blasters or acs make sure you're keeping your distance, hitup the mwd II to be sure.
Unload your rails and launchers and let the drones fly.

Thorax with full rack of T2 neutron blasters and dual SAR tank. If u got snakes u might even trick a vagabond into web range, where it is a guaranteed kill with void ammo
Drones of choice are either 5x EC-600 or 5x EV-600.

I've always preferred a nano arbitrator. Goes quick, tanks well, has some ewar for gang help, and fantastic drone damage.
One of my favorite ships to fly honestly.
A bit of a one trick pony, but a very enjoyable ship to fly.
