You always hear about people typing in the incorrect amount of digits in trade/contract windows, especially with large ISK transactions. Whether it is caused by human error, lag or what have you, it happens.
Adding a pull down menu for thousand, million and billion amounts would make data entry a little less error prone. Instead of entering 100000000.00 ISK, you could enter 100 [Million ISK] or 750 [Thousand ISK] etc. Also allow the window to accept fractional input as well - 2.5 [Million ISK]. Default it to [ISK] so data entry is unchanged and works as it does now.

I think a lot of people have this problem.
I don't think it would be hard to code some syntax recognition for units, as simple as this:
"600K" would translate to 600,000 ISK "1.4M" would translate to 1,400,000 ISK "1.234B" would translate to 1,234,000,000 ISK
Anybody think we'd need a T?

Pull down menus are more error prone then typing. Especially since the current error is usually 1 zero and the pull down menu would make it 3, 6 or 9.
The m, b and t thing sounds like a good idea but actually isn't. The english speaking countries use short scale, which means a billion is 1,000,000,000. Most other countries use long scale, which means a billion is 1,000,000,000,000. So that would be even more confusing. See: Long and short scales
In the end, the least error prone method is to have the player enter the exact number.

edit: If it is, there could be simple "use long scale abbreviations" checkbox added to the client options. -...

What they could do, is above the input box, add feedback text that mirrors the number you have put in. However, add spacers for the thousands, millions, ect.
So if you currently have 1200000000 typed in the input box, right above it will show you:
1 200 000 000.00
That should help and make it easily visible at a glance.

It's faster to list the short skill countries:
US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Everyone else uses long scale or a completely different system (Asian/Indian languages). Financial publications that are released or translated into english are often converted to short scale too to prevent confusion. So if you're a native english speaker the odds are indeed in favor of never encountering long scale.

Do we really care long scale and short scale? There are some not ambiguous at all scientific notations: k : *1 000 M : *1 000 000 G : *1 000 000 000 T : *1 000 000 000 000 Do we need more than that ?
If you say yes, look there, they are all there : SI_prefix
You see the column that is not ambiguous in the names? Use the right symbol! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !

1 000 000 = million 1 000 000 000 = milliard (most english speakers however call THIS one billion) 1 000 000 000 000 = billion 1 000 000 000 000 000 = billiard 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 = trillion 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 = trilliard
That's how we do it over here. Or, at least, used to.
Nowadays, we prefer "a thousand million" instead of either milliard or billion to avoid confusion. Just have "k" mean *1000 and "m" mean *1000000, and it's all settled. And yeah, 1kk = 1m. Still error prone, but a lot less. 1km could be confused with "kilometer", but meh, when you have it as a price... it's quite normal to understand what it means.
Oh yeah, FOUND it on wikipedia. There, for your entertainment.
