While some people whine, I'd actually like to take some time to post my impression of the new chargen as it stands in its current iteration.
As CharGen stands currently, it has to be one of the best looking and most in-depth creators on the market, save City of Heroes. Though CoH's creator has the extreme depth, it doesn't have the fidelity of Eve's new creator. Now it seems like there are still people resisting the change, and for those people I have to wonder why? If you'd paid any attention to fanfest, you'd see what CCP has done and is doing to make Eve better. You'd see the new assets for nebula and turrets. You'd see the new hardware, the new software, all the goodies people keep moaning and groaning and complaining about. I find it funny how many actual "Programmer" and "Game Devs" we have on these forums. It's funny that when ever something doesn't go someone's way they start acting like they've been building MMO's their entire life, and that's straight BS.
Being someone in college for computer engineering myself, I can tell half these idiots are full of crap.
So onward to the new CharGen,
First off all the thoughts that Eve Pod Pilots are "forever locked in their pods" is crap, read the books. Secondly opening up Eve to full body avatars is a buisness decision that CCP needs to make in order to bring new blood to eve and giev the old blood new toys to play with. As it stands, I like it. It's easy to use, easy to understand, and very good looking.
Clothing: We need a lot more of it, but as stated at fanfest a lot more is coming. We need styles, military uniforms, corporate style clothing and the like and it is coming so it's a mute point. But the stuff we do have is good, and I like it.
Hairstyles: We need more, as the current styles are mainly crap. We need more long and med length hair options for females, and more options for males.
Jewelry: besides piercings, nonexistent at the moment. some watches, bracelets, necklaces, stuff like that would be nice. If you want the level of immersion and customization that you tell us you want. Maybe these might be vanity items sold, who knows.
Piercings/Tats/Scars: So far, so good. Though I don't understand why we are limited to certain combinations. Why can't we have piercings on both ears? Why just one or the other? Why only ear piercings and it turns off lips or what have you? Bit on the weird side. Also some gender specific piercings would be nice, seeing as woman can wear their shirts showing off stomach, give them belly rings for giggles. More to perv on, hey I'm not gona lie..belly rings are sexy and belly rings on fake internet spaceship super models are hot. Also other tats, but those are coming as stated at fanfest. I'm talking shoulder, arm, and maybe lower back tats...(again for the tramp stamp for girls, muhwahaha).
Ease of use: So far I find it extremely easy to use, it's not counter-intuitive at all.
bugs: Image of chargen bug. This one was ignored, and is still happening. It's small and insignificant, but if not fixed before CQ could be iritating.. |

As a RL dev,
signed, that thing is just insane from my point of view, i would love to see a statistic on manhours spent on the different things, like core development, graphics, animations, debugging, additional development and so on.

Some people had characters that had features that aren't available in the new bloodline look. Hair colours removed from bloodlines, some are made very asian, some can't be black anymore .. some people are just attached to the look and feel they had. I must confess i have a character I don't like that much anymore because of the enforced new look. Nothing to do with the new editor's quality.

I hope it's really coming, and a lot more options than we have now.
Generally i think we need more options for everything. More hairstyles, jewelry, A LOT more clothes and shoes!!! .. and for the unhappy people an option to change bloodlines (I'm very happy with the new Civire look).
But well that's just one thing of a living breathing mmorpg. What about gestures, animations, expressions; nothing's been revealed or announced about that yet. Atm we're expressionless, be it nice looking, dolls. |

Seems to be some funky stuff going around on the eyes http://i.imgur.com/NJiDl.png
And I also get the tucking issues with the boots. |

I submitted a bug report about the boots to CCP, my reply was "We are aware". Note, this was BEFORE the recent patch to chargen..it was on the test server, they were aware of it, and did nothing to fix it. Blatantly ignoring it. |

I found a work around for that bug. Remove the pants and footwear. Then choose the first choice of pants and footwear. Strange, I know but it works for me nine out ten times whenever I run into this problem.
