I dono if that's even possible, but just for kicks i got a rifter to screw around in. Something cheap and easily losable. Nothing more than harassing other frigs, maybe cruisers or haulers. I'm looking for pirate corps, but till then i'ma just **** around. Obviously I don't expect to be ripping it up with the big bots right off the bat. But with that in mind, is there a decent setup for someone like myself?
I've got just over 1m sp. Yes, started (or actually started over) couple weeks ago. And if I AM asking too much, well, i dono.

Edited by: Modrak Vseth on 02/07/2007 20:02:42 I'm kinda in the same boat. Just finished my trial yesterday and have been flying a rifter with just under 1M SP. I've only had two pirating encounters so far:
1. Found a battlecruiser in a belt. As I was looking at his info (sucks not knowing the ships by name yet) he pounced me and tore me apart before I had a chance to react.
2. Last night found a Probe (as in the frigate) mining solo in a belt in 0.3 space. I figured it must be a trap, but I pounced anyway. I opened a convo and asked if he was ready to negotiate he replies "What? For what?" and then explains he's on trial himself... go figure. So I let him go since he wouldn't be able to pay me anyway (assuming he was telling the truth).
So, my two instances so far leave me at 50-50 pirating in a low SP Rifter, but the hunt is fun, so I'm going to stay at it. I got ideas on fitting from the threads here and the guide links at the top of the C&P forum. I'll adjust as my skills allow.

The rifter is perfect and one of the best frigates out there.

That only substitute in a rocket launcher for the nos, a microwarpdrive for the AB, and a nanofiber internal struture for the damage control.

On my Rifter, ive only been playing for about a month and i ratt alot the setup i find most usefull is:
H: 3x200mm AC (i use tech 2) 1 named Rocket Launcher
with these weapons you have a nice base of constant dps
M: Named Shield Booster (I use tech 2); scrambler; named afterburner.
L: Overdrive injecter tech 2 (tech 2 overdrive injector is easy as hell to trian for, only requires hull upgrades lvl 2); capp recharger; gyrostab
:D i love this setup it works nicely to takeout frigate-bc sized ratts and havent tested it a whole lot in pvp but the encounter's ive had where i stood a chance, i was successful. :D

hmm hmm interesting...
i've just started hunting and thus far have been unable to find targets. But the setup i had going was:
hi: 200mm ACx3(emp), Rockets(gremlin mid: Cap Booster(150), MWD, Warp Scram low: Gyrostab, Nano, Small Armor Rep
I figured I could get higher DPS without sacrificing cap gains from nos by compensating with cap boosters. Of course, i lose a mid but i didn't think i'd need a webber, and the only other things to put there are shield stuffs (i don want shields) or something cool but not neccesary like ecms or tracking disruptors or something.
would that be fine?

A 1M sp charracter wont be able to fit both MWD and 200s.
Highs: 3x 150mms (phased plasma), 1x Small nos or rockets (foxfire)
Mids: Med extender, scram and mwd
Lows: Whatever it takes to make everything else fit, once it does, fill the rest with speed/agility mods. You will probably not have the cpu for damage mods om a 1M char.
MWD into orbit and turn it off, orbit at 500-1500m and hope the guy doesnt have a webber.

I prefer armour tanked suicide attack Rifters, actually: 3x150mm AC II 1xOE-5200 rocket launcher (although NOS is better)
1x cold-gas AB 1x x5 web 1x 7.5k scram
1x small armour rep (preferably T2, they're cheap) 1x 200mm rolled tungsteen plate 1x Gyro/EANM/DC
Goes rather fast, definitely fast enough to catch a good deal of frigs and most mining/ratting cruisers, can deal some OK damage. Of course, plate and no MWD = no means of disengaging from a fight, if you attack someone who's prepared for you, well, you die.
Edit: webbers are useful to have, don't ignore them.

Armor tanked works as well, though there is a problem: You fill all the lowslots that a newbie needs for power and cpu mods with power and cpu-hogging plates and reppers. And on on top, it's active, and that doesn't always work out with minimal cap skills.
