Ok, so I'm really an amarr pilot, but I thought I' give Caldari a go seeing as I have Caldari BS lvl 5. The damage is alot better and constant that my Apoc for running missions, but the cap simply does not cut it. How do you guys keep your cap up and shield up?
My setup at the moment is (let's say for a blood spawn)
6 'Arb' Cruises 2 Heavy nos
X-Large Booster 2 EM Hardener 2 Thermal Hardener Shield boost Amp
3 BCU II 2 PDU

U have 2 ways to have enough cap
1st is the better and the most lvl4 runners use: fit Gist xlarge boosters. Very good boost for half cap usage, but is damn expensive. 2nd u would have less dps and less tank, but would run perma lot cheaper if u fit 2 BCU 2 and 3 CPR and in highs 2 cap rech + 3x ccc rigs. so u would be able to permarun the booster http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/9741/rinaldo2ir8.jpg |

3 x CCC rigs is standard kit on a PVE raven. Also try using cap flux coil IIs instead of PDUs.

Edited by: Tsushima on 26/06/2007 10:57:56 My setup is
6x Arbalest Torp or Cruise, depending on mission 1x Tractor 1x Salvage (or occasionally smartbomb depending on mission)
3 T2 rat-specific hardeners T2 XL Booster T1 Amp T2 Cap Recharger (or sometimes target painter for easier missions)
2 T2 BCU 3 T2 PDU (sometimes only two - see below) T2 CPU if needed for torps (1 PDU removed)
3 CCC Rigs
This doesn't use any faction equipment, costs less than 200m and I have very little trouble with L4 missions. I only have 7.5m SPs so this is an easy enough setup even for low skills. I usually carry 10 or 15 800s for the cap recharger which means I can run the XL booster for a long time if required. However, I usually don't activate the booster until 40% shields and then switch it off again at about 70% so its rare that I use many charges. Its good to have the reserve though for missions where there is a high amount of damage until you reduce the number of rats and the XL booster is running for a while. The only real drawback is that the cargo hold is full of missiles and charges but I use an alt in a Catalyst for most of the loot/salvage so that isn't really a problem. My main advice is to read up on each mission and equip your ship accordingly. Don't rely on one setup for every mission. I have considered paying out for a faction booster but I could lose multiple ships for the price of one booster so it doesn't really seem worth it.

With great difficulty
It can be done but if you're looking for a perma tank (ie;a tank that will run forever) you're going to be spending a lot of Isk on faction gear. I moved to the Raven from an Apoc about this time last year and I was also shocked at the cap situation. What you need to do is get into the habit of only running your booster when your shield drops below 50%. If you do that and have T2 gear fitted you should be okay.
I only fitted one faction mod - a Gist C Shield Boost Amp. Not too expensive and it made a big difference.
The trick with the Raven is to be intelligent about when you run the booster and not to faff around. Cull the enemy as quickly as you can because it's unlikely that your tank will let you just sit there while you pick your nose and scratch your arse .
It has often seemed to me to be worth targetting mid-size targets (cruisers and cruise missile launchers) ahead of BS. It may just be the feeling of 'clearing the air' or they might actually be a serious enough threat to warrant it. In Downing the Slavers I always took the cruiser missile launchers out first and it seemed to make the mission easier.
If you want that kind of relaxed, piddling around, "look Ma-no hands!" mission running then a CS is needed. My NH passive tanks (two active hardeners but considering how little cap they use they might as well be classed as passive) so I can ignore my cap and in most missions don't really pay attention to the shield either. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
