Alright as you might have seen I've had the same problem but im not in game as I post this. There were some saying to delete your firewalls or disable them. I disabled mine but ended up with nothing and I sure as hell wouldn't delete it for safety ,obviously.
I being "paranoid" online have been running 2 antivirus/firewall combos. One of those is Nortons,or should i say "was nortons". When I tried bringing op the control panel for nortons it would screw up and not display properly. Therefore I decided to delete it.
Now that Nortons is uninstalled/deleted from my computer ,Eve is able to connect. My other Antivirus/firewall was not the problem and is in fact up and running. If you have Norton's internet security/firewall , try deleting it and see what happens. If it works, try reinstalling Nortons and see what happens and post the results here please. I however will not be reinstalling Nortons since I still have another program that does its job.
I hope that this problem is somehow just tied to a complication with NOrtons internet security and that everyone is able to get back in game asap.
good luck!

Edited by: Sagitter on 21/06/2007 11:43:04 2 antivirus and 2 firewalls (mainly the antivirus) sooner or later will result in a conflict and will mess your connection permissions, allowing almost nothing to connect

Well this problem didn't occur before the patch. Also a few weeks earlier a setting for a router got borked and I disabled both firewalls to try and narrow down the possible source of the problem. After I realized it was a setting in windows that was the cause I reactivated 1 of the firewalls. I left nortons alone so it hasn't been active in weeks as I had disabled it's startup in msconfig.
So the idea that an inactive firewall/antivirus was the cause of my connection problem AFTER a patch seems odd. Also it doesn't seem to suggest that having 2 of such programs is bound to cause connection problems. It, to me seems to be a problem with Nortons or a change made to eve that some how conflicts with an inactive norton firewall.

does not work for me, i have never had norton installed on my current system, i had avast antivirus, spybot s & d and spywareblaster. i disabled all protection/immunity in the spyware apps and completely uninstalled avast and i still cant connect.
status:unknown and "The connection to the server was closed." if i try to login anyway
i still have not checked to see if it is my stupid traffic shaping port blocking scumbag isp thats at fault but calling them is a last resort as talking to them gives me a pain in the *******

SAme thing here. If i deactivate my firewall in the router, eve client shows that the server is online. If i activate the firewall it shows unknown. Before the patch everything worked without deactivating anything.
It is definatly something wrong with the client or patch. Perhaps a new port?

The client has been changed, the version has been increased, so its a "new rule" to firewalls or it should be. I experience the same issue with the test server, thought it was down, but several hours didn't seem right. I tried to patch it again from the old version ( pre-patch ) and it worked.
So the problem is connected to your firewall not the client, because any program that changed versions, could have experienced the same issue for the same reason.
What worked for me was to remove the rule for the client, and patch and launch again, which allowed the client rules to get assigned properly.

still no change, 8th day with no connection. have uninstalled norton, disabled the firewall, downloaded the client again, removed everything I could think of, no joy. the total lack of response, interest or resolution by CCP is not exactly inspiring, as a new user, I have serious doubts about recommending this game to others, based on this incredibly poor customer service. The impression given is that CCP has my money, and is no longer interested in me as a customer. If any CCP staff are reading this, even a simple acknowledgment that there is a problem would have been appreciated, just one simple statement that you are aware and attempting to resolve the issue, instead of this stony silence and the impression that you couldn't care less about your customer base. Even if this isn't your fault, and there is an ISP issue, reassuring the customer that your primary concern is not just getting our subscription fees and putting your feet up would create a much better view. Yes, I understand that there is a new expansion, yes there are bugs to be worked out, but this problem existed before Rev 2, and is resulting in a total lack of service, for which we are actually paying for the privilege of being ignored.

I too am having the same issue. Have logged a petition with CCP after first contacting my ISP and making sure that they haven't changed anything...
