I'll be the first to cast that particular stone, then. There is a line to be drawn, and it's not a particularly fine or subtle line. If an AU member smacktalked using RL insults, directors would come down on him like a (metric) ton of bricks. If an AU member threatened RL bodily harm - or as in that case, if comments are to be believed, death - they'd be out of the corp so fast their heads would spin.
There's a good many players who are able to play EvE without blowing a fuse in Local every time their assortment of pixels gets blown up. I salute those players. Thanks, you make the game fun.
Let's put this in perspective. Threatening harm to a person - not their toon or their isk, mind you, the person - is "Assault", as part of the "Assault and Battery" duo. Yeah, that could be argued in court - part of the "Assault" part is that the threat has to be imminent, and the victim has to believe that the threat could be carried out - but the courts have been very liberal indeed in recent years with interpreting verbal threats as "Assault". So we're looking at a potential felony here. Which carries a statutory sentence of up to 6 months in prison and/or a 5000 pound fine, in the UK.
This is no small matter. CCP did the only thing they could do: Permaban the player. Bringing criminal suit is not something CCP can do, but is an option for the threatened player.
Tackling this another way: EvE is a game. Keep threats in game. The moment it spills out into RL, it gets way too intense, and frankly frightening. That kind of fanaticism is not something that should be treated lightly.

Sucks that you got banned, Gingy. I know I wouldn't like it if it happened to me, but it's just a game. But you shouldn't have been threatening RL bodily harm over some pretty pixels in a game that moved from one fake wallet to another, or some other pixels that turned into different ones when your pod exploded. Maybe now you'll get out and socialize some. :x

tbh i have heard from so many ex snowy members in convo about how bad GM treated his corpmates and others and everyone has been witness to his annoying ego on eve-o but if that's all he said then i think a perma ban is a bit harsh. temp ban for sure but that's a little extreme. however examples have to be made and this will shine as a very good one.
i don't feel much sorry for him on account of how he treats others but a temp ban of a month or 2 might well have sufficed. unless it got worse than that.

Is that a joke ? ovcourse- he kept it all to himself, hence why everyone (well almost) left and went to KLEPTO. And so octobersnow members didnt really have a source of isk or gear but now im sure if snowy lives on loot will be spilt between members and not put towards the famous "nyx fund". FREEDOM!

I joined October Snow approximately ten days ago. I knew the corp policy of all loot going to corp wallet. As far as I know, whenever I or anyone else lost a ship, Ginger immediately replaced it; that is the main reason why I joined SNOWY. Yes, Ginger does have an ego, but practically every ceo of a major corp does. In addition, I got to know Ginger on Vent, and I must say that I enjoyed talking with him. He is not an awful person who deserves ridicule and condemnation. Furthermore, I think this is a sad day for all of Eve. This is not a day to rejoice, but to mourn. One of the oldest and most infamous pirate corps in EvE has been seriously hurt. In the end, all I know is that I enjoyed camping and killing carebears with Ginger and the other members of October Snow. I even enjoyed camping with Miz while he was a loyal member. I just hate to see characters and corps be put down like an animal. I wish all the pirate corps in eve the best of luck, even the folks at KLEPTO. Remember, Eve is about fun and community - and sometimes a community must forgive those who may lose their cool at times.
