I am posting on an alt so not to emabrass/ point out that the corp involved is at the moment in trouble:
Basically a trusted member raided our corp wallet for @ 1.5 billion isk, and took around 40 cruisers/frigates/battleships/industrials he emptied the entire T2 hanger @ 2 billion in mods. he stole around 30 BPO's mainly T1 ships from cruiser to battleship and T1 mods and about another 150 BPC's including a number of T2 BPC's Finally he took our entire stock of datacores/rigs/ reactions and chemicals. basically everything we have.
I was in local with him today and he was docked up. no doubt selling off his loot, when I asked him why he did this to those that thought he was a friend, he said quite simply;
Once a pirate always a pirate

Corp theft is more akin to espionage/sabotage than piracy. You have to take things with force to be a pirate, corp theft is more whitecollar.

It's closer to scamming than piracy. Piracy is about shooting people until they drop ISK one way or another , scamming is about collecting the ISK that people willingly placed within your reach.
Scamming and corp theft are predatory habits just like piracy , but that's about it.
Nothing worth bragging about unless there is proof that the stolen sum is considerable - just like pirate don't brag about the Nth noobship they popped.

It's a form of criminal activity (in principle, maybe not in game terms) like piracy, but it isn't piracy. ------------------ "If you ever need anything please don't Hesitate to ask someone else first." |

He's talking rubbish tbh. I am a pirate and always will be but would never clear out friends hangars. each to their own and all and not saying ppl shouldn't play that style of game but it has nothing to do with being a pirate.

It's social engineering. He gained your trust and cleared you out.
Sucks to be you, but bravo to him, he's probably been planning this for months. Is it piracy? No. Is it criminal? Yes.

I think it depends. That was corp theft, pure and simple, ******* your mates over for a buck. if you make a living out of joining corps to screw them, either by exploiting the corp rule so you can gank / ransom a high end ship or with a specific aim i do think its piracy. Just a more insidious way of doing it. IMO its just as much piracy as high sec suicide ganking. Not true .. but what is these days. In these situations all i got to say is blame the corp and not the thief.
Corp Thieving is exactly what it is. Thievery
Pirating is up in your face, so you know its coming.
Help us pirates liberate you of your stuff. Why do you think T2 prices have dropped? Invention, no its piracy.

For some reason i feel driven to answer this post. Yes you gave to much access to someone you didnt know. However i would not be in the position i am in if people didnt do the same thing. Needless to say i have access to everything about my corp. But in return i have a prodominant voice in the direction my corp takes. Also i have friends i can fly with with and expanding alliance base. You cant get that from taking what you can and running.
Although you could also have been hit by a bored alt of a corporation that doesnt do a darn thing and he is bored. its like ore theft except not as cool

that sux man.....
NAME & SHAME ...so that he can be set to KOS
not piracy at all...same as a criminal act in RL imo.
I know I should not compare RL to EVE but it really makes me question their RL personality and or lack of moral character...they need help.
although this could have been RP'd at which case I would expect a long explanation...until then as I said, NAME & SHAME!!!!

Corp theft is not piracy. I think of piracy in game as activity that is specifically averse to the EVE-police. If you engage other players in low sec you get security status drop and eventually CONCORD starts shooting you up a little in high sec. Pirate NPCs belong to factions that are supposedly enemy of the main NPC empires and federations and thus live in the "outlaw" 0.0 space.
Piracy itself in EVE has a tint of role-playing. Not all forms of aggressive action in game can be all labeled under this one definition. People tend to label all kinds of theft piracy because they draw parallels to real life, where pirates would be pillaging towns and killing people to take their things. But the defining thing for a pirate that he or she engages others with intent to kill or incapacitate and then rob them (even though everyone at the end still lives cuz it's a game). If someone smacktalks you in local you wouldn't call him a pirate for it even though drawing same parallels to real life pirates tended also to have foul mouths. If you just steal this doesn't make you a pirate. You have to actually engage in combat with the goal of having that other dude's shiny fittings to be a pirate. Hence scammers and corp thieves cannot be put in the same group as pirates.
