Hi,
I have a badger, but I want something with a fair bit more cargo space. The next step up that I can see is something like the Charon...but that's far beyond my financial reach, and also a fair while off before I get the skills.
Are there any mid-way ships that are more realistic for me, that will carry more space? I could get a Badger II, but I really want something that stores 15000 or more.
Thanks

Train for a Bustard (Tech II Caldari indy). Alternatively, switch training for Gallente industrial ships (the Itteron V can hold a buttload of cargo).
The Badger/Badger II is rather ****, I must admit.

You gain a 5% bonus to cargo space per level of training in the "(insert race) Industrial" skill. Which, to my knowledge, is the only skill that increases cargo capacity.

Go for Mammoth (minmatar hauler) - it's the best t1 hauler if you are in hurry (minmatar industrial lev 4). Granted Iteron 5 is bigger, but it has also insane training time compared to mammoth (needs gallente industrial 5 to use).
Mammoth can be pushed for around 20 000 m3 quite reliably fithout going nuts with rigs (way too expencive for mammoth).

worth it if ur a corp hauler -get one can / haul (if in mining op, to slow for ore theifing :P) -can transport various ships in cargo bay -ect. ect.
and with 2 t2 expander rigs and one t1 expander rig u get huge cargo bay over 46k m3 if dont remeber wrong >> bleh... |

Expanded cargohold II .. great module.. makes your tech 1 indy very big :)
You can get almost 50k m^3 out of a pimped out iteron 5 (gallente industrial), but then there's a large gap (not counting the transport carrier setups) to the freighters (800k m^3).
A normal tech 1 indy shouls get between 10k and 25k just by using expanded carhoholds II.
All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

I really don't see T2 rigs being worth the price, if you can even find any. And certainly not to a guy asking for 15k m3 of space.
Iirc, with respective races Industrial skill at 5, you can get 38k m3 from the Gallente Industrial, about 35k from Amarr and Gallente Transports and 30k from the Caldari and Minmatar Transports. That's using T1 rigs (40-50mil a piece) and T2 expanders (4-5mil a piece).
If you're not seriously aiming at Transports and Freighters, I'd have a hard time justifying using so much time to train Industrials past lvl 3, with the exception of Minmatar.
So, as I see it, there are really only two options available.
At industrial 4, the Minmatar Mammoth will get you 27k m3 with t1 rigs and t2 expanders. That's 9 GSC's.
At industrial 5, the Itty5 will get you 38k m3, as was said. 12 GSC's.
If you're eventually going to get freighters and transports, go Gallente and suck up that 1 month training time for the Iteron V. If you are unlikely to ever get freighters, go for the Mammoth and be content with 27k m3 for as long as you play this game. (Obviously you can train whatever you want later, but I would see it as wasted training time if you do not stick to your choices.)
Caldari and Amarr suck in comparison, as the cargospace of their Industrials just isn't worth the cost of rigs, nor really sufficient, and if you go all the way to transports, the same training time gets you the Gallente Iteron V, biggest subcapital cargohold in the game.
If this post confuses you, or I've made an error, do press that reply button and I'll either clarify or correct my statement.
Personally, I'm still undecided, but I'm starting to lean towards wanting a freighter or transport at some point, and thus I won't train up for the Mammoth.

As has been mentioned above in passing, fastest and cheapest way to get a big cargohold size boost is Giant Secure Containers. These take 3000 m3 of space, but will hold 3900 m3 of stuff. That is a 30% increase.
Downside of GSCs is that they put limits on the size of the largest item you can carry, certain items can't be put in them - other containers, livestock, people etc - and they make loading and unloading a somewhat more fiddly process - lots of containers to open instead of one cargohold.
My Iteron V, with a full set of Expanded Cargohold IIs and Cargohold Optimisation I rigs, and 12 GSCs will hold just under 50,000m3. I am in 2 minds as to whether to get 2 x Cargohold Optimisation II rigs to take it to the maximum possible, or to just bite the bullet and buy an Obelisk.

Badger II will not get 15K of space without rigs. The most you'll get out of the Badger II without rigs is 13601 m3 of space. You are thinking of combined GSC space, which is not applicable if you want to haul small ships, for example. (Like the poster above me said, you posting sniper you ;-)
To make the Badger II cost effective from a training time and monetary standpoint with respect to cargo space, train Caldari Industrial 3, fit 1x T2 Cargo Expander and 2x Beta Hull cargo mod, as this gives you just enough space for 4 GSC's (12k m3) giving you a total hauling capacity of 15,6k m3.

Badger MKII + 3 x T1 Cargo rigs + 3 x Expanded Cargohold II = ~ 19k m3. That's 6 GSC's plus some leftover space.

Lol. Yeah, I don't type so fast.
Originally by: Neuromandis Badger MKII + 3 x T1 Cargo rigs + 3 x Expanded Cargohold II = ~ 19k m3. That's 6 GSC's plus some leftover space.
So when you increase the cost of your ship + fittings from 8-12 million to 130-160million, you get two more GSC's, plus the leftover.
So just over 40% increase in capacity for >1000% increase in cost, and you're still 30% below the Mammoth capacity (skill training time difference less then 4 days, total training time from no skill to Mammoth is 4-5 days) and almost 50% below the Iteron cargo capacity (skill training time 1 month). If only Industrial 5 didn't take so damn long to train.
Rigged Badger just isn't worth it imho. Caldari kinda got the shortest straw when it comes to subcapital haulers. Instead they have the biggest capacity freighter, though I have no clue if the 5% capacity advantage over the Gallente freighter matters at those volumes.

And you are paying 3 million (at lonetrek prices) for that last 0,67k m3 of space, i.e. a 3% increase in space, compared to my suggestion. While 3 million isn't much, it is still a 30% increase in price.
Yeah, I've got nothing better to do then play with a calculator right now.

i am using this setup with 2xinvul 4xmed extender(against suicide gankers) and 3m isk is not so so much for a empire only ship. ============================
