I've never been ˝scammed+ that way, but if that happened to me, I would send back all of the money -except for the 350k iskies yours costed. I know EVE is a hash and brutal world but good moral pays off in the long term. If it didn't, why do we cooperate at all? Why do some species cooperate with other species? Being a bad boy pays of in the short run, but in the long run it's better to be a nice person with good moral. It's proved by evolution (else we wouldn't have been cooperative at all), so give the money back! Perhaps he'll give you a little reward for your good moral

Return the isk. Being fair and refunding the overpayment is a way to let the poor sod know that not all the players in the game are arrogant tossers looking to put the screws to anyone who makes a simple mistake. This game has enough scammers, spammers, social engineering hackers and generally nasty people looking to take advantage of players. ________________________________________________ It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion,

You are assuming it's a bug... it may not be, it's selling the lowest priced object (first on the list) at the price agreed to by the buyer...
While I have never seen or had this problem that I know of, if I went to buy an item, I see the price I am paying and agree to it... I do not know who I got it from until after I paid for it, and most likely will never know how much they were asking.
If contacted by the buyer, I would send them the difference (or some other agreed upon amount up to that amount)... but they need to contact you as they were the ones that made the mistake (Not sorting by price and buying the lowest priced item)
Noob in training...

I always refund these mistakes. I'd want my isk back, and good deeds don't go unnoticed in the grand scheme of things. Same guy that you helped out then might just be in a corp you want to join later that year, and what then?
That and common decency. One of the times someone was selling TS scram for higher than average, but cheaper than what they were going for a few months before (which was what I thought they were still at), so I say I'll take it. I look up contracts, say crap I'm getting ripped, and the guy accepts trade before I stick in my cash. I accept and then wire him the money manually. Accepting is just one of those reflexes everyone has :X -----

rofl. Don't think many pirates would sent 90M back. /edit I'd probably say 'Thanks, the next 10 ransoms are for free.' ... eeh wait ...
But it is taking someone's fun away at their expense. It is fun for both sides to gain something. The victim gives 10M and extortionist receives 10M. The fun is spoilt when the victim loses a lot more than intended. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

Trading actively in high volume tech I items, we book hundreds of transactions each day. Recently a couple of transactions really stood out: a guy purchased two Kestrels from us in Jita, accidentally paying scam prices of 800 million ISK for the first and 170 million ISK for the second
Of course, he promptly and courteously emailed the sales alt that had the Kestrels listed. We refunded the entire 970 million ISK, less our 280k price for each Kestrel and less the station sales tax we were charged on the incremental amount of the sale. After the refund, he thoughtfully sent us a 20 million ISK gift of appreciation, which we graciously accepted.
It was a pleasure to help the guy out

I think this was likely caused by someone trying to raise the average prices of an item in order to skew the market graphs.
By buying their own (overpriced) item they would raise the average price. The thing they messed up is by putting a buy range on it, or by doing it in the station where you had your normal sell order.
Take the money, it wasn't an accident, it was intended and stupid. :D __________ The opinion(s) expressed above are mine alone and are not necessarily endorsed or supported by my Corporation or Alliance. |

probably it's not a scammer. noob people try to transfer money from trial acc this way. put an item for sale for silly price, and buy that item with trial acc dude, effectively transfering 100 mil minus taxes from trial account. it's noobish because they don't know how market works - it always picks the lowest price offer, but still pays the price entered into market form.
btw it could be good business - searching market for stupid price tags, traveling there and putting the same item for lower price :)

Refund? Generally: NEVER
only if the guy is a real close friend whom I would give a free 100mil because he needs it anyways.
If its some random corp/alliance dude I would give the difference to my price to corp/alliance as a donation.

Originally by: Blind Man im confused, how did you get 100m if you were selling them @ 350k..
If you click on the most expensive order in a station you always get the cheapest one sold to you but still pay the higher price.
so if i sell an item for 1 isk and someone else sells the same item for 100 isk and the buyer tries to buy the 100 isk item, then the 1 isk seller sells one of his items but gets 100 isk instead.
i think it's part of ccp's attempt at stopping money laundering but i could be wrong.
so let me get this straight...
i find a system with a stupidly overpriced thing, say shuttles in 0.0
I sell for 0.01 isk or something... the others are for 500k.... if someone buys a 500k one, i get that 500k ?
nice

They could also buy that shuttle, and you could also just price it at 499,999.99. It's called undercutting, and anyone who sells things regularly is very familiar with it -----

heh about 8 months ago, some guy placed a buy order for an item that had a value of 20 mils, for 200 mils per unit, the market instabought my sell order as it was the cheapest on the market at the time,
i ended up with 1.6 bils+ (if i remember corrently) for 9 20 mil items mistakes happens, i gave the isks back when he made contact, the funny thing was that just 2 days ago he had smacked me on forums :)
When he explained the situation and the mistake he made, i asked him do you remember me? he said eerm, yeah :( i said no worries, set an escrow and i ll buy back all the items you bought frome me for the exact price he payed
