I bet the guys in the game would all look like they're from F4. Maybe a deliberate selling point to the game I guess. (If you know who the F4 is, kudos to you, but personally I hate this hot new Taiwanese boy band group and that ugh show "Meteor Garden".)

erm.. not too good atm (imo at least) - dowloaded the client a while back, played through the tutorials.. computer blew up shortly after, and havent wanted to play it since..
A cool game in beta atm is Ace of Angels which looks a bit like counter strike, except in space.. with space ships.. but its broken atm so I cant play it and find out...
oh, also found a cool game called Allegiance which isn't beta, but its free to play.. and is pretty damn cool - fly yer ship, get into a dog fight.. recieve orders from the commanding player.. ignore orders.. get blown up by enemy.. get kicked from server for arseing around.. class..

My first ever online game was Allegiance, and this is not new. You pay like ten bucks for it if you wish to play the advanced servers, but there is a free server that lets you play three of the basic races (Iron Coalition, Galcorp, BIOS), without the other two more advanced racers (Belters and an alien race).
It's been around for a while and it was developed by Microsoft. But it was a financial failure for MS and they dropped support of it and gave it away for free.
YOu better play that game as a team and play with the game flow, knowing what to do before even someone tells you. This is team work in the ultimate (well until Shattered Galaxy came along). Commanders can kick you out of the server if you're not a team player, and eventually they will blacklist you or put you in the filter. When that happens, your hopes of playing that game is gone.
You truly need to establish a reputation of skill and teammanship or people won't let you into any game. That is usually the source of grief for games like this and their ultimate failure. It also results in stacking (one team full of experience L33Ts by carefully picking players and the other full of noobs). In Shattered Galaxy---my second online game---the same situation exists but they call it mobbing. Shattered Galaxy, which is also an independent MMO, is another all out 24/7 war using teams.
I had quite a good success on both these games but after a while, I had it with the elitism and the swearing---the worst swearing are those that come from your own teammates. Never looked to games of that format like Planetside for that reason.
Allegiance can be highly extreme. A 30 or 40 minute space battle in EVE is a record. I've played 3 to 4 hours straight of white knuckled combat in Allegiance without stopping.

yeah. Quit Shattered Galaxy partly to make room for EvE, partly because advancement had laregly ceased and things were gettin' mighty repetetive. The Regiment stacking was getting on me nerves too.
Before they bollixed up the rares system tho i had the best... moths... ever... i mean the things were practically immortal
Oh the irony. All the time we all spent using the phrase "this ain't counter-strike in space ya know," and here someone innocently asks for it. Hahh...
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

The constant shift of regiments from one faction to another repeatedly upsets the balance of the game. One moment they're fighting with you, the next, they're your enemies. Many regiments are only loyal to themselves, and not the faction they're in. Furthermore, some regiments try to influence the voting for the faction overlord, preferably one that is in their ranks or favors them, against candidates striving to make it easier for the noobs, like breaking the filter lock on a game to let noobs enter.
The last time I played there was enough players for four factions. In time, the game eroded and finally left iwth only two in the top planet.
I also dislike the Singaporean Chinglish many players use, and it's very confusing for non Singaporean players.
One thing though, if EVE wants to cater to Asian players, they better start selling prepaid subscription cards, or use this system. Shattered Galaxy and Ragnarok Online also use prepaid subscription cards to great effect, and it's likely like all Asian based MMOs, so will Fungwan Online.
