Real time skill training certainly makes Eve stand out from the other MMORPGs. However as you train a particular skill it does take a longer and longer period of time for each level. I have absolutley no problem with this before anyone thinks I'm having a go about it.
My issue is, that as I work away from home and do not have access to a suitable PC/laptop to login to the main Eve game (or restricted internet access), I cannot train the skills I want training in the way I want them trained.
I have to look at which single skill can be trained over the entire period I am away. Fantastic if your learning Battleship level 5, but not if there were 2 or 3 other skills you would have preferred to train instead.
As an enhancement to Eve I would like to : 1) Be able to queue skills for training. and/or 2) Be able to log in to the Eve Online webpages and switch training in your 'My Character' section.
I can see the first as being the lazy way and cause an increase in code/data storage for CCP, but the second is just another interface to the main game code and still requires you to take an active role in managing your character.
Your thoughts please?

2nd won't ever happen its been stated on a number of occassions 1st is also unlikely to happen though we may get dual skill training in the far future The most common solution thats ever been suggested that ccp will eventually follow is an eve mobile client that allows you to login in and access some of the game feature from a portable device. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

A mobile client would be great, it also takes changing skills in the 'My Character' section of the website one stage further.
Would also be fantasic if this was java based so it could just be loaded via a browser so that no code needs to be permanently loaded on a pc/laptop. Really useful if your using 'company' equipment rather than your own.

Ive heard the reason for not allowing skill queueing (did i spell that correct?) isnt going to be put ingame due to fears about char farming, can anyone confirm this? --------------------------------------------------- Regarding nerfs & boosts:

Yes it would be nice to either be able to queue 2 skills or switch them over the character-site offline ! Having 2 skills or being able to switch via character-site would hardly be skill-farming.....BUT it would be convinient for people who havent access to their account 24/7....

Like me, and a lot of other newer players who have this problem .. I have a ton of 6-12 hour skills that need to be trained. I goto bed, wake up, goto work.
And from the time I goto bed and get home from work, I don't have the time to log in.
1) The eve login port is blocked at work. 2) The servers are down when I wake up. 3) "most" of my skills are in that skill range right now, and I literally just have to train them over two nights from the time i get home until the time i go to bed to get the skill trained. then back to that 5 day skill.

Yeah, I'm in that boat too - though I get up when the servers are scheduled to be back - and most of the time they are - it's just those few days when theres some problem loading the servers and I have to get to work - I've probably lost 36 or so hours total, having that happen.
Not an incredible issue - I certainly didn't whine to CCP, or even post about it til now. Sad that a few farmers can ruin something that would help so many - but there you have it.
One compromise I wouldn't mind is limiting changing skills offline to one every 24 hours. That would help those of us who just couldn't get into game for whatever reason without allowing skillspamming to quickly level up.
The other option is to find someone whos retired or out of work to log in a change your skills for you - my fiance was doing that for a while... she's working now, but it was nice at the time.

A mobile client, or just the ability to log in to the eve-online homepage and change there.
If the account is active that is

Its not a case of not being able to train skills to coinside with online time. Currently I am stuck in a hotel and will be all week as I work away from home. The works laptop I have won't run Eve and I can't afford to buy one (yet) of my own that will. In addition there is not always internet access in the hotels (or they charge for it).
As a relatively new player to Eve most of my skills take less than 5 days to train. I also hadn't realised that this is a common discussion in the forum - apologies to those of you have gone 'Oh no, not another post about that!'.
As far as character farming goes, putting up some sort of verfication text code (that a bot can't read)that you need to enter along with your user name and password everytime you login in would prevent most of that as human intervention would be needed everytime. Would take as long as logging into the game to change skills that way.
Well thank you all for taking the time to read and post comments.

Hello, had a similar issue and asked the same question.
If you check out this threadyou will see some wonderful ideas.
As for those that are short - I used to start the long ones before work and change skills at home to the short ones and then before bed or work I would continue the long one I interrupted.

Edited by: AegriSomnia on 15/05/2007 22:48:35 What about an SP account? If you aren't currently training a skill, the SP go into an account that you could use to put into the next skill. I mean. why not? I'm paying for access to EVE and all its services. SP are supercritical to this game, and just because RL gets in the way sometimes doesn't mean I should be "punished" by losing the SP during my downtime.
Say I'm offline for 1 day, and I would have earned (for argument only) 1000 sp in 24 hours. Next time I log in, I get a 1000 SP "head start" towards the next skill I start training. What is it going to hurt? CCP got their money from me, now GIMMIE MY SP!!!

The SP thing wont work as is, due to different skills training at different speeds, my lowest is like 1000SP/h and my highest is ~1500SP/h so the difference is quite high.
What should happen if anything is training time.
OK, just had a way to make it work, yes the idea is a bit from WoW but you get that.
Background: In WoW, when you log off in an inn (well anywhere, but inns make it go up the fastest) you get an amount of XP that you can earn at double speed. IE if your offline for a day when you come back, you earn XP at double the speed for a while (XP based not time due to its levelling system).
Perhaps Eve could do this, you earn double training speed time directly equal to the amount of time you havent been training for.
EG.
You train a 2 hour skill and come back 12 hours later, that means you weren't training for 10 hours. That means the next 10 hours of training you earn double the SP per hour.
Although, this would allow character farming, as they can just sit the account there for a while then train the skills in half their time.

You could always have a family member log in for you and do it for you while you are away. or get a laptop capable of playing the game even it if is at crappy resolution and graphics settings. as for the port being blocked at work go somewhere on your lunch break if at all available starbucks or mcdonnalds or something like that. lots of places offer free wireless internet go to town be Macgyver your self a solution until they decide to offer something a little more concrete for us to use.

There was an old post somewhere, where some guy was able to change his skills using a mobile phone.
I`m sure it worked by using the phone to control the home pc`s mouse & being able to see whats on the pc screen on the mobile. <- a bit too technical for me, but it worked. remote assistance maybe ?
i`ll see if I can find that post.

Microsoft windows doesn't like to do that. its almost if it chooses if it wants to boot the game or not. for example I once use my laptop to log in to Guild Wars using the remote desktop connection. But upon trying the same thing with star craft the remote desktop crashed and I was left with star craft running on my desktop

I would love being able to queue just one extra skill, besides the one training. Would be usefull for a gamer like me, that doesnt have all the time in the world being online. Those 4-7hr skill training levels are getting to be a bundle and would be nice that be able to start a 4hr train and queue a 2days afterworth so I dont waste any train time, just because I am at work or sleeping.

Why can't they just have the next skill in the skill progression train for example if you were training Salvaging I and it finished it would then start on Salvaging II. With out you having to manually start it. I guess I'm just asking them to take out the stop command in training that occurs after every skill level is reached. |

There's always VNC. It'd probably fit your needs. There's no need to install anything on your employer's laptop (as long as you have a java capable browser), and it can be set up to avoid most firewall problems.
You will, however, need a connection to the internet. But as Marasuke has mentioned, public access points are everywhere if your hotel is still in the dark ages.

Hey yeah, and i want my characters in other MMO's to gain exp on the days I can't play because hey, I'm falling behind if im not getting my daily quota right?
It's not complete sarcasm. If you dont have the time to log into eve once every few days or possibly once a day then just *Perhaps* you shouldnt be at the same level as someone who plays the game every day?
We're talking 2-3minutes once or twice a day here. If you can't even manage that why are you playing a MMO?

Not exactly the solution you are looking for, but....
on www.techforless.com you can easily find a laptop which will load eve, with terrible graphics, for like 200 bucks. We're talking station only, no ratting, etc.
But hey, when you have enough for a good lappie, you can prolly sell the techforless one on ebay and either break even or make a profit. That's what I did...I lost a total of 40 bucks on a laptop I had in Iraq for almost a year and upgraded to one with an X1600 and such :)
A mobile client would be nice though, esp. a java one for cell phones <3

What about a skill queue that gets de-activated once the account isn't paid for so there can be no free-character farming? I think this is a good solution...

1. Install Remotely Anywhere on your PC at home and set it up. 2. Go to DynDns and setup a free dynamic domain service. 3. When your at work, enter in the dyndns domain name in a web browser, and login to your remotly anywhere service at home on your PC. 4. Make sure your in Java mode, so the page is at least a little more responsive... 5. Sit in your station, change your skill and chat to your corp mates. 6. Get fired for never getting any work done anymore...

Although it is probably a pipe dream, I think being able to train up a skill that allows you to 'multitask' learning would be great. Every skill level allows you to stack another skill trained at a time. Say I had level 1 I could train 2 skills at the same time.
One skill has Memory/Intelligence as the modifiers, of which I can get say 2000 sp/hr. The other is Willpower/Perception as the modifiers, of which I can get 1500 sp/hr. In 5 hrs I would have gotten 10,000 SP in one, and after switching and training for another 5 hrs I would have gotten 7,500 SP in the other. 17,500 SP spread over 10 hrs time, but requiring intervention in the middle.
Now if I could train them up together, I would half those amounts of SP and get say 5000SP towards the first while getting 3,750SP from the other in the same 5 hr block. You are still getting the same SP/HR that you would get if you were training them one at a time, however, because you are training two or more at the same time, to finish the training it will take much longer.
Allowing you to set up a few different skills to be trained at the same time would make it much easier to plan playtime around worktime while training lower SP skill sets. Moreover, you would have to work for it via skill, perhaps make it the tier 2 learning (learning) skill. Instead of adding another 2% to each attribute, allow skill stacking.
