Maybe there is some mechanic I don't understand. When I try to warp away from stations, even deserted stations, the speed goes to just a hair below max and nothing happens. I just sit there for as much as a minute waiting.
No it is not Jita, no I am not pointing at the walls of the station, or bumping into a freighter. |

Higher speeds don't help when trying to align. Sometimes canceling the warp and re-starting can get it going faster. Anything like stations, other ships, anything you can bump will have an effect.
Best practice is making an insta-warp bookmark and warping from there. |

It's not a bug, just a weird interaction of game mechanics.
That's because there is a minimum (and, in fact, a maximum) velocity for you to achieve warp, not a speed.
Velocity is directional, what's happening is the meter down at the bottom indicates your speed not your velocity, so your ship undocks at close to max speed, you then tell it to warp to a point not along your current vector, and the ship has to adjust and get up to speed in the correct direction.
Fun fact, with particularly large or slow ships you can actually speed this up with some clever manual piloting because of how your ship slows down and orients itself along different vectors, effectively pushing yourself too far past the direction you want to go and then re-orienting. |

Ship type?
Being at warp speed will only let you warp if you are aligned and the direction your ship is "looking" is irrelevant. The important point is the direction it is going. If the ship model is done turning but your vector is still not in line with your warp direction, you will not enter warp until that requirement is met. |

This will occasionally happen to me too, especially in citadels. Even if you are not bumping into walls, you could still be getting hung up on the station if you are in something big. When this happens to me I re-dock up (you'll still be within dock range) , undock and wait an extra 10-15 seconds before I try to warp away. It doesn't happen every time and not in every station, but that's my workaround
You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friends nose.
Unless you podded them...and collected their corpse.

Guys, this isn't lag, this is something that's always been in the game when you try to warp on a course other than straight ahead of where your ship is going especially with larger ships. |
