In real life if a criminal were reborn in a clone with all their memories and skills they would probably be immediately jailed for the purpose of rehabilitation before being released back into society with a clean slate.
I had an idea that perhaps players with a security status below 0 should suffer a skillpoint redistribution every time that they are podded and in this manner their security status is restored to 0 and they are made less harmful - at least for a while till they can train them back up.
Skill points would be transferred from things like Gunnery, Drones, Missiles, Shields, Armour and transferred to Science, Industry (with the number of skill points to be redistributed adjusted according to player attributes so you might gain or lose skill points depending on attributes)
Any critics of this idea?

While i agree with the background reasoning, a large part of Eve is based on "Bad Guys" being able to be bad. Just being podded is punishment enough don't you think?

Meh, I think inability to enter empire space is enough of a punishment. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Every Carebear should have his PVP skills reduced when podded due to extremely high sec status. Beecause the higher levels of society would want their minions to be unskilled in combat to fight against a coup.

A bit unfair to pirates. And keep in mind, not everyone with a negative sec status is a pirate, some are simply territorial and hang about in low sec. They attack others to keep them from mining, or putting up a POS, using the research agent, etc. -AS |

And people who make a living killing pirates usually have low sec rating too.
All sec rating says is that they've killed players in the past, not why.

Ok maybe it wasn't such a great idea. I still think though that it would add a dash of realism to piracy.
Some points though: If you live in 0.1 to 0.4 and you shoot people just for being there that is piracy regardless of whether in your mind you don't want them to use a research agent or mine or put up a POS.
As for being podded being punishment enough for pirates, I disagree as everybody gets podded at sometime but usually in wars or 0.0. Lets just say that it gives a little incentive to pirates or those living in 0.1 -0.4 systems to pick their targets better or to work in bigger gangs so that they don't get podded. It gives the carebears a little bit more leeway to carebear in those systems. Remember that 0.1 to 0.4 are not supposed to be lawless. So if the amount of skills redistributed was dependent on the system security (lower sec system = less skillpoints moved) that would only be fair.
Someone mentioned carebears with a high security status being 'punished' by having skills redistributed to PVP skills if they get podded. You don't punish those who haven't done anything against the law do you? However you could call it self-protection re-education if you insist on this happening.
Besides if you have a positive security status you would be able pirate to your hearts content or until you security status reaches 0, which ever comes first. Security status can always be improved by ratting too.

Takes away players' control over their charaters, bad idea imho from a game design point of view. ______________ Join the Family |

I'd much rather see "podding a pirate in lowsec does not decrease your own secrating"
and by "pirate" I mean anybody below say.. -2 or -1

Killing a gangster is murder unless you did it in selfdefense or you are an official force of the law (police/concord)

If you do this then everyone who has possitive security that is killed in the pirate regions should get their science and industry skills tranfered to gunnery, missiles and other pvp skills.
lol, funny idea but that's how far it goes.

Whenever a pirate kills carebear, do a ISK redistribution, from the carebear's wallet into the pirates wallet. This way, the carebear will be a less attractive target for other pirates, atleast for a while till he can farm his ISK back up.
Tnx.

two things. first off killing a gangbanger is a public service. secondly just how much trouble is anyone going to put into investigating the death of a known pirate?

the only way this argument carries any weight is if you don't have alts to run in and out on your behalf and what are the odds of that?

You attack someone in the empire without having an agro flag on him wich gives you the right to shoot him causes your death from concord and when that pirate surfived your attack he can loot your wreck and laughs at you :P
