I have a question for the General Market Community.
What is the line on Market Manipulation ?
Its no secret that I own a great deal of ZERO. and TINY. shares, and I have owned them for a long time. Im also part of the leadership for my alliance, able to influence policy and PVP decisions. I for instance know that TINY. seeds the market in one with reasonably priced goods with a nice profit margin.
My alliance goes to that region and starts with the pew pew. TINY. and ZERO. makes more profit, shares go up etc etc.
At what poitn am I doing somthing unethical in the eyes of the market ?

It would be unethical to hack their TS and spam * BUY ZERO!*. Well, ok, maybe not EvE encourages anything that can be done ingame. I personally don't do scams, or such. However, there is nothing wrong in pew pewing to raise a market, that's just evil goodness.....

Yeah, I would say the 'its only a game' rule applies. Dont worry about it. Its no different to me buying stuff from Dark Shikari even though he's my enemy.
Unless you're RPing ofc

In which case buying up all his stuff would be denying your opponent vital supplies.

Unethical and game rules are two totally separate things. I find unethical to scam people even thought itĘs allowed in game.
Montaire, It is unethical to purposely send people to pvp with the hopes that they loose their ships and by from ZERO. and TINY.
It is unethical and dangerous to tell ZERO. and TINY. where to stock their goods knowing ahead of time where that battles will rage.
It is no unethical to purchase from your enemy.

Ahh yes, I agree. I thought he was saying that they would then cost enemies their ships, causing them to buy from zero/tiny- that's just evil goodness

I think it is fairly simple.
If you are making a decision on behalf of your alliance, do what is best for your alliance regardless of personal interests. If you make a decision for your alliance that is influenced by your personal investments, that is unethical.

As someone said, if you're the leader of a corp or alliance you should be making decisions that are best for that corp/alliance. If you are making decisions that are instead best for you then it is unethical and you should step down from your position. But if you make a decision that is both good for you and for the corp/alliance then that's even better. Especially if you had the corp invest heavily in those two investments and then started the war it's better still.

Man, what an interesting question. Perhaps not so, because you feel that you manipulate the market, but more so that you must have an awkward feeling about it somehow asking our opinion on this. You are a good person at heart and it conflicts a little with your brain/conscience.
To be honest, I should not worry about mixing these interests at all. New Eden is quite big and there is a also an opportunity for other traders to pick up on these things. I know I do. There is a market for everyone. And if they have a problem with it, they can always pickup arms and "pew pew" you, so their own traders can get into the trading.
It is difficult to answer your question when you will be doing something unethical in the eyes of the market, as everyone has its own standards.
Just be true to your heart and don't let your conscience down. I think if you will get a lot of people on your sixes then you have done something unethical.

Are you potentially causing harm to people you care about by destabilizing the area? Could your actions backfire by depriving MP of much needed customers? Will you questions here make the natives hostile to MP's enterprises?
If the answer to any of the above is "Yes", please consider carefully. If the answer is "No", carry on!

MP - You dont get a vote!
First, I did not actually have anything to do with my alliances move to Fountian. Im certianly more loyal to the spartans than I am to any of my stock holdings (My ISS shares still hurt)
But when it comes to do it, and all choices are equal I do tend to think "Hrm, guess my TINY. dividend is going to be nice this month"
Has anyone else run into any thing like this ?
Ironicly I have primaried MP a few times before. Allways makes me feel a little bad, like my portfolio is taking a tiny hit every time I pod him.

I think about this every time PCT sells something in fountain. I run a lot of the gangs where people need different setups, or when they need new ships due to my suicidal tendancy's and now they are making me profit by buying it from me. But I do look at it this way. There was almost zero t2 in the main station I supply up until I showed up, I am making it easier on people to buy new gear, and they can still buy it in empire for cheaper of course. But I would never suicide or run any gang thinking woohoo I will make isk off this. Now granted there have been some battles where I had to log my alt in to see how much isk I did make though (the battle in 5-D for instance).

You should be receiving my invoice in the mail shortly.
As far as I know, I've not yet called a shareholder primary, but there wouldn't be anything more than a chuckle to myself between me realizing the person was an investor and me calling them primary anyway. But then again, it's not like my profitability is affected when I blow up investors.
In related news--Montaire should build ZERO. a mommy, so I can move down battleships in my ship bay and don't have to worry about getting ganked. All in favor?
