It's usually translated as "To the Edge" or "To the Sea" because the original term is ambiguous; it's a term for a line of transition, often mystic in nature, but that also offers the very superficial translation of "shore".
It's an account of a semi-fictional Lady's very dramatic and strange dreams, some bizarre and sensual in nature, during a summer that she expects to be her last due to an unnamed disease. Late in the account she recovers from it, and her embarrassment in planning to survive her own honest account of her thoughts is very funny. She's dead now of course.

Holo games. GAH! I just can't stop play them. I download more and more on my NeoCom... I buy reels with games in Jita or Amarr.I think I am addicted a lil bit. Since I earn millions of isk, I don't have to work 20 hours a day anymore to have me a nice place to stay and something yummy to eat, so all my time is wasted on.... these.

Taking in a cat. The act cost me about the entire engineering team, delayed maintenance cycles by forty-eight hours and reduced productivity to 0% for the entire week. Also, many, many workplace accidents. Not to mention Project Sebestacy got pretty much wrecked due to cat deleting almost all my blueprints and left so much garbled nonsense in my terminal, and destroyed several of my drone prototypes and destroyed a few of my metal-ceramic foam composites.
Then the cat went and accidentally fired itself into space via 150mm autocannons.
My second biggest regret was not putting in place anti-cat regulations after the first incident. Staff brought cats to work. Everything goes to pot for another year.
Well, what's *your* biggest regret?

I don't blame my former corp mates in the slightest --some of them became friends I fly with to this day -- and some ways, it was a necessary step in my development away from the bloody busywork of Empire black ops, and closer towards a proper niche for a capsuleer to be in. I just wish I'd met them at an freelance, capsuleer-focused piracy outfit.

Inspired by that - have you ever found your personal morals changed over time, or did you reconsider them deliberately? How? Quite substantially. I've become considerably more apathetic to means, when it comes to an end, no longer feeling the urge to try and push a moral compass at others. Thanks to some intervention, I don't think I've become the sort who is completely jaded to terrible deeds, but I've certainly accepted that they have a place in accomplishing goals.

Other than her, the drone I built which has an unexplained behavioral quirk. I named it 01. Emotes and responds to speeches, in its own way. Imagine a sentient jumping spider with predatorial mammal-level intelligence. That is the impression it gives me. Not sure how it got to be that way since it is using the same codes the other drones of its model is using but it does respond and emote whenever I speak to it about anything. The way it acts made it look like it understands and is trying to comfort, advise or critique in its own way.
Maybe the drone is really special. Or maybe it's just Isi controlling him remotely. Wouldn't put it pass her but I haven't gotten around to investigating.

There's the Gila for being effective at all ranges and then there's the Orthrus for having good speed and agility and a rather forgiving margin of error for a long-range sniping platform with rapid lights. There's also Sansha line of warships that require a very, very specific loadout to hold down due to their overboosted afterburner expert systems.

The Rattlesnake. I just don't feel comfortable in it, on a physical level this ship causes me nausea like no other ship does, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the reason. Maybe it's something about the reactor layout or shield emitters as I've felt like this even before its recent upgrades to its drone systems. But I don't really know, and can't really feel bothered to find out, since even performance-wise I feel it lacking compared to the other pirate BS hulls.
Well, let's not stray from the subject too far - let's pretend you are a ship designer, what kind of systems would you endeavour to design and incorporate into your dream ship? Limited to Amarr, Gallente, Minmatar and Caldari tech only, so no Lux Kontos coated battlespheres.. |

There are none. It probably doesn't qualify as a 'beach' by common parlance, but it's a cove in the far north of Matar, at the edge of Gripdjur land. There's two actually, but one is always clear of ice and used as a port for seafaring vessels, while this one is clear of habitation and the visible touch of man. It is... beautiful.
In the summer, the peaks surrounding it are still covered in snow while the valley leading to it is green as you can not believe, until you get to the rocky bare lands leading to the ever frozen wastes and peaks. At sea level, there's no sand. Just stone. Weathered and etched dark stone shining wet from the relentless assault by the cold and dark waters of the northern seas. Even in the depths of summer the water is cold and home largely to blubbery prey and quick predators. Sometimes they are both.
In the winter, the cove itself freezes, for kilometers. Past the horizon, if you're at sea level.
It's one of the harshest and most beautiful places in New Eden to me, and it is where the Shaman, Volur and even sometimes the Elders of the Gripdjur go when they need to regain their connection to all parts of our land. To the spirits of the land, the mountains, the skies and the waters. To the dark and the light, the cold and the warm. It is a place where there is only you and everything that makes up the Gripdjur world.
I once spent a month in that cove, living off what I could kill, connecting with the world of my clan and every spirit therein that was not that of man. It's of course a lot less dramatic than it sounds. I was well equipped and none of this is difficult as long as you have patience and basic training.
It is stark, savage, unyielding and uncompromising beauty in a way that will stay with me for the rest of my days. One day I hope I can show someone else that place. Someone who has earned it.
This is a question for the non-Matari out there. Those without our beliefs and ways. Have any of you ever connected with the spirit of a place? Be it dirtside or up here in the void? |

I've avoided this pleasant and productive exchange for quite some time. Many time's I've had an answer but declined when sniped by someone else. This one is worth a defined effort and I hope by the time I'm finished I can come up with a good enough question.
Have I ever connected with the spirit of a place?
Oh yes. The obvious answer would be my time in K-MGJ7 where we paid in blood and treasure to kill off those who would dare trespass in our space. We made billions and killed plenty to earn that right.
An answer I prefer these days is looking back to a world I spent many years upon. On Avair IV, my father had many lessons, one was that we should take advantage of natural patterns and processes. I can proudly say that I can shovel **** with the best of them.
Most of that world is wasted, on palaces to vain egos. But there I learned the value of a hard days work. Looking back I now know the spirit of Avair. Once a year I return to that world, I bend my back and help in the harvest. My neighbors dismiss me as an eccentric (at best), but in ten years I have risen higher than them all. I will continue to bend my back once a year, as my neighbors and their families turn to dust. That is the spirit of this place.
Amarr is not about opulence, and glory. It's about hard work. Some would say the hardest work of all.
Now for the hard part... a question for a stranger...

Sanity. To be always felicitous every time all the time no matter what one will have to have lost all semblance of sanity and awareness. After all, the universe around us will forever be like that of an ocean, full of currents, tides, calamitous storms, rogue waves, utter calmness and etc. To be able to be happy every time all the time no matter how smooth the sailing or how perilous the waves, one has to be completely insane.

By the way I saw another IGS post about people everyone misses. I'm Ava's husband and I've relayed all of your love to her. Spirits bless you all. It means a lot to both of us, and I'm sure she'll reach out to all of her "fans" when she returns to the capsule. |

As capsuleers we have access to other forms of sensuality however that are unimaginable to others. Hoist the black flag and slit some throats.
Or just try to reverse engineer the ship. Then build more and then profit from it PLUS hoisting the black flag and slit throats.
Is this related to ARC operations?

Probably the same thing I had always done. If CONCORD revokes my capsuleer license and takes my ships (read: waifu) away, I can't be said to be living a life of luxury and relaxation, can I?
But if by 'retire' you do mean 'revoke the license', I guess I just retire to an industrial installation somewhere and fabricate biomechanical machinery. That's something I can do with my wife, at any rate.
Will you willingly give away your capsuleer license?
