Ok, so what types of roles do people play out there? I know its a really diverse system that allows for almost anything you could think of, but I'm going to break it down for stuff..
1) Mining - Mines 2) Production - Builds stuff to sell 3) Trader - Players the market 4) Ratting - Just fly's missions 5) Tank - Takes hits for Miners and in PvP 6) Scout - Co-vert ops, scout probe, scouting for pvp 7) Strike - Fast ships for quick strike 8) Support - Heavy anti-warp and anti-targeting for pvp 9) Command - Organizes the stuff (heavy leadership skills)
Am I more or less correct with this? Just trying to figure out how different people play different roles in a corporation/alliance for pvp and missions. I'm trying to decide what I would be interest in. I kind of like the sit back and shoot **** strategy(when in groups), I like to blow stuff up before it gets to me. :)
General discussion plz :)

If you like standoff warfare there is an Arbitrator (Amarr) drone setup you may be interested in.
Sorry, I am at work, so I can't give you the exact module names, but hopefully I can get the idea across. Add one or more drone augmentor modules. Each one increases your drone control range. Also, use sensor boosters to increase your lock range. I have only tried one of each, but apparently you can use up to 4 (or however many high slots you have) and control your drones at over 100 km. Targets die before they can even lock on to you, let alone get within weapon range.

I'm not a fan of Amarr, too much energy expenditure for my liking when I could just spend money on ammo and keep my energy for armor/shield tankin. Thats why I'm wondering whats out there. I heard things like snipping which is using that Lead ammo and just sitting back and pounding from far out.
But I honestly have no idea what else that includes.

Sorry, I did not express my idea very well, I guess.
I did not mean to suggest that you should choose an Amarr ship, I was only using my Arbitrator setup as an example of what can be done to create a long range drone sniper. I'm sure the same thing will work with a Gallente cruiser.

Ok, it sounds like you are most interested in combat at this point. A fine choice.
For someone who doesn't necessarily want to be right up in the face of the action, there are a couple things you could do.
1. Sniper. You'd basically sit back with your ship and weapon of choice and shoot. Not a very in demand role.
2. E-War specialist. This is less direct combat, and more insidious torture of the enemy. Your job is to stay out of the way and make life miserable for your opponents through the use of ECM modules. This is a much more in demand role.
3. Interceptor / Interdictor. This is a sort of "hit and run" type role. Medium demand for this role.
4. Covert Ops. The spy, the sneak. General covert ops pilots are used for recon. The more your team knows before engaging in combat, the more likely you come out on top. The Covert Ops pilots are responsible for getting that information. Pretty good demand for this role.
Based on what little you've said here, those roles are ones you might consider. There are CERTAINLY other roles available in combat, but those are the least "in your face" roles I could think of.
Good luck!

Well, lets hear the in your face roles. Maybe one might perk my interest.
Any why is the sniper role not that much of an in demand role?

Quote: 9) Command - Organizes the stuff (heavy leadership skills)
Just wanting to expand on this a bit.
There are people with RL leadership skills who are great at tactical decisions, and then there are pilots who have heavy (skillpoint) Leadership skills. One does not necessarily have to have the other.
The ones with SP's in Leadership skills, but little skill tactics-wise, would fit under your #8 - Support.
Just because the Overview might have someone officially labeled as Fleet/Wing/Squad Commander, does not always mean they are calling the shots. They could just have crazy gang-bonuses to share with everyone.
_____
Btw, I've never seen the lack of demand for snipers that you mention. _______

One thing my corp does is called black ops. This is an op composed of only pilots in force recon ships. We cloak and go deep into ennemy territory and blow unsuspectfull pilots up.
I guess you could sum this under covert ops, however we do not spy we engage the ennemy full on.
Ever seen a gang of 10 recon pilots jump an ennemy gang? It's never pretty for the oposition.

Usually multiple roles like miner/builder/trader.
Most ppl I know do a little bit of everything.
The most effective corps are led by people who understand the industry game but also the pvp game.
You can't really have a top notch PVP alliance without top notch industry and support. How do you fuel hundreds of POS? How do you build all the ships needed? How do you get all the materials for the ships?
Its a huge job, and usually the same people who do those support jobs are in their ships the next day defending their POS in fleet warfare.
There are very few people in Eve who do only 1 thing.

Edited by: DubanFP on 03/04/2007 12:16:55 I'd like to add that there are no predefined roles in eve really. You can be a sniper one day a Ewar specialist the next, and a tackler the day after that. There's generally limits as to what i would be practical to switch from "a lot of skills to be miner/industrialist and PVPer".
But if you want to know roles that you can take on at any one time i can easilly add some ideas. Your whole list is off so i'll start from beginning. Also note you can take several of these "roles" at once.
Require Industry Skills 1) Mining - Mines 2) Production - Builds stuff to sell [often also a miner] 3) Trader - Players the market [Very Rare, only rewards are generally using low-sec, even that is high investment high risk, normal trades pay poorly and are limited to how many]
Requires Combat Skills 4) Mission Runner - Just fly's missions 5) Ratter - Hunts belt rats [difference between 4 & 5] 6) Scout - Co-vert ops, scout probe, scouting for pvp [ usually a secondary skillset, but usually a shuttle is just better unless you're scanning down SafeSpots 7) Tackler - webs/warp scrams larger hostile ships and uses speed/size for survival 8) Support - Sensor Damps, ECM, remote reppers, gang modules [made to weaken the enemy and sometimes strengthen your allies]
things i threw out 9) Tank - Takes hits for Miners and in PvP ["taking hits for miners is usually just a ratting setup used for that purpose", and no one ever tanks in PVP. Because there's no point in tanking solo just normal fighting, tacklers would work better. In larger groups anything called primary is toast reguardless of tank] 10) Strike - Fast ships for quick strike [usually ganksquads of small ships are used because they're cheap, speed usually has little to do with it] 11) Support - Heavy anti-warp and anti-targeting for pvp [split into 2 categories] 12) Command - Organizes the stuff (heavy leadership skills)[only real use for leadership is a few skills to run your corp as CEO, that or to use gang modules which are better suited to support] ______________________

You must not have done this or know the right people. It is not a high demand role within a corp, and tends to be a solo act. There is huge money to be made in trading. Much of it in Hi-Sec. It is not an action filled aspect of the game, but does require alot more thought than other aspects. The market is a PvP battlefield as much any thing else.

Corp I'm in wants more tacklers.. but Its just not for me. lol, I would rather strike than tackle. I wouldn't mind support for anti-targeting and stuff. But i have to shoot and kill ****. :)
