Not sure if this is a result of the mission buff or not, or if my intel is faulty, so I thought I'd ask.
I've just started Level 4's (I've done about 6-7 up to this point). They can be long and difficult, but very doable in my Shield-tanked Myr as long as I'm careful to control aggro. But then I got Silence the Informant last night for the first time. As always, I took it slow so it wasn't too bad until I got to the Elite Drone Parasites in the first room (the BS's around gate). My Myr's shield tank can generally handle most reasonable aggro, but these guys just chewed it up like it wasn't there. I ended up having to abandon most of my drones (Ogres) and managed to warp out just as I slipped under 15% shield left.
So I came back, this time with hammers and more hardeners, but they couldn't even take one down before I had to warp out again, my shields in tatters. I finally managed to approach in such a way to string them out a bit and I was able to take them down. Now, my skills are not that great (about 2.6m SP) but I was still surprised to see them hitting me much harder than most lvl 4 rats (well over 200, even with my hardeners active). Eve-info shows they deal kinetic and thermal, and I had one of each.
So is this typical of these guys (i.e., Eve-info is understating the damage) or is this the result of the buff. (FWIW, the rest of the mission wasn't nearly that bad as long as I took it slow and didn't aggro an entire room.)

Typical. They do hit hard as hell but if you put some distance between your ship and theirs you should be ok.

EDP's are pretty evil. The first thing you should try is use 2 of each hardener - that should help you a bit. Use em damage on their shields, then therm or explodey on the rest of them. And use range on them if you can, though I'm not sure how doable that would be in a myrm. Perhaps set up the myrm as a mini dom - dual armor reps and a boatload of nos.
They are easily the worst of the drones and most other mission npc's don't hit that hard, aside from the named ones in certain missions.

I use an armor tanked Myrm myself. If I put on the AB, keep a bit of distance and keep transversal up it reduces the damage by a LOT when going up against those EDPs.

IIRC, keep them about 30k away and they will barely tickle your shields.

Elite Drone Parasite deliver a pretty decent punch.
Don't confuse them with the Alvus Controllers which die easily to EM dmg. Best choice is Explosive ammo. Roughly 200 Raw DPS incoming 60/40 Thermal/Kinetic same as Serpentis.
Eve-info has been pretty accurate for me most of the time, I use maverick's Excel sheet to tweak the incoming damage sometimes.

I use to fly this mission with a Domi and THERM/KIN/EX/EAMN hardening, all T2. The EDPs (that shorthand always makes me think of ROUSses ) still hurt a lot, but that hardening is good on the merc stage too.
Of course having good armor compensation skills further boosts the EAMN2.

this prolly wont help much as you have 5 ogres squashed into your drone bay, but if you swap an ogre for 2 meds and a light, you can send the light after the drone domi before you get aggro, and as they attempt to pop your liccle drone (which they cant hit unless you bring it back) you pop the ones which your light drone isnt attacking and through process of elimination "ta da" you win.
just make sure you dont pop the one which you light drone is shooting first or they will just pop the rest of the drones or you.

Edited by: Rakeris on 23/03/2007 13:32:21 Not sure if this still works...but before the patch they wouldn't fly more than like 50KM, so just nuke 'em from like 80KM away, and they will move to like 50KM then head back to their starting point, they will keep doing that till they die. At least they always did for me. But they are not to hard to tank with a decent set up, they just do a lot of damage.
---------- I gave up on sigs. As all the beatings are starting to hurt and leave nasty bruises. |

Unlike most mission NPCs, their resists are more like player ships (which makes sense since they are just drone-infested Domis). Use EM damage on the shields, Explosive for the armor, and whatever gets you the most damage for the structure.
They also hit very hard below 30km so try to maintain your range.
I ran into the same problems that you did my first time through because after killing the first one I let myself drift clsoer to the second two and they started ripping me up pretty fierce.

Another option is to use sentries, Bouncers or Wardens, from 50+km

Is it just me or do the mission devs seem to have a sense of irony?

Yeah I thought these things hit pretty damn hard too! I got comfortable with my Vagabond being small, fast and tanking most rat BS pretty well, but found these big drones nasty...so I sent my drones in as a decoy. You may loose one as they swap targets but as the guy above said, those drone BS hit quite hard but are quite weak.

2,6 Mill SP and using a Battlecruiser, you should expect simular problems when you get some of the tougher missions. No offense I'm impressed you managed to finish the mission of and let me know when you have done Angel Extravaganza, Vengance etc Sig removed. Please email us at [email protected] if you would like to know why. -Conuion Meow

OP, Tranvseral helps a lot on these guys, go in on a parabolic approach and drop into a fairly tight orbit, keeps the damage way down, they do put out a lot of damage though

Just tried it - works like a charm. Orbiting at approx 7500km at 360ms and the drones cant hit for toffee!
Great tip.

You can always go for distance - kill the two that are not parked by the gates first, by the time you've collected the (now) useless Elite Drone AI chips (please CCP come up with some good use for them soon - they cost enough in effort to warrant this!) you should be at least 75-80km away from the other three. Sit there and just kill them as you're out of their firing range.
When using missiles EM works best on their shields and Exp on the rest. They aslo spam so many Defenders that I find using torps on them next to useless. Cruises seem to deliver more DPS just by being able to get through...
YMMV

2.6m SP running lvl 4s? Jesus Christ I'm either incredibly dumb for waiting so long or incredibly masochistic for only flying Minmatar.

Hit the AB and orbit the big rat as fast as you can. The drones have very poor tracking.

That killed me. Best snarky post of the day.
But yeah, OP, they hit very hard. Since I fly a raven, I just keep my distance and let them eat torps.
