This feature doesn't work. Today I jumped into a system, hit the "dock" option to warp to a station and dock. I then had to go afk and returned later to find myself in my pod. There was a long time in between choosing dock and getting killed, so I wasnt caught out.
I have just tried this again, and my ship acknowledges the dock request when it gets to the station, but does nothing. It sets course to docking perimeter but never docks.
I know I shouldve checked to make sure I was docked, but RL called. I put my trust in the game and it failed me. Can anyone else confirm this is not working for them too?

It hasn't worked since they added WTZ. Was bugged then and never fixed.
I've even managed to land 2514k from a gate before with WTZ. Too far to actually use it.

I can, sometimes it randomly doesn't work. Even if I manually request dock outside of docking range, I approach and it does nothing. But then if I try to emulate the bug it does work, so I've got no idea what it is. -----

It's what we can call a "unreliable feature" Most of the times it does, but every now and then ship forgets the docking part after it sets course for station.

Whats even better is when after you realise youre not docking, and you click dock it says
"Docking operation already in progress. Please wait here for 30seconds while hostiles destroy your ship. Thank you for youre patience"

Clicked Dock on Station - Went to check on the kids - came back to see the last of my structure drop.
luckily got my pod away - and didn't really bother me - cause these things happen - but i won't trust it again that's for sure.

Yes, very annoying bug!
Yesterday whenever I selected Dock at station I couldn't dock, I got repeated messages that I was still in warp while nudging the station at 0km. Not until ship was fully decellerated could I click station and dock..

it is not working sometimes because of very simple reason: Flow should be like this: 1. Ship is in warp to station 2. Ship leaves warp at 0km from station 3. There is automatic docking request 4. Ship docks.
Its working most of the time but sometimes flow is not correct: 1. Ship is in warp to station 2. There is automatic docking request 3. Ship leaves warp at 0km from station 4. Ship docks.
In that case ship will not dock because dock request is done while still in warp.

Worse is when you WTZ to a gate in empire and gate being camped by 30+ pirates, you click "jump" couple times and you get "Session change already in progress" Progess takes 30+ seconds and you die

I laughed too hard at this.
Also, it works most of the time for me, just don't rely on it completely.

I just had a response from a GM stating this is an issue to do with the patch and theyre looking to resolve over the next few days.
He completely side-stepped any reimbursement though

I am not sure if this is case they used to be a bug you could kinda exploit to initate your dock request before you started warpings o you would insta dock I don;nt think they ever fixed it (not tried ina long time) but if it worked back then telling it to dock before you got there then it would probably work now, unless they fixed this bug and this is the consequence :).

I have noticed 2 things that seem to increase the chance of this bug appearing:
1) selecting the dock command from the "assets" (to dock in a station where you have assets, boviously) or when selecting the mission starting or delivery point right clicking on the map and selecting the dock option;
2) after changing ships for some time (maybe till re-loading EVE) the error in warp to zero increase, and the dock fail more often.
My impression is that at least partially the bug is originated by the ship reaching the station too fast, bumpint it and then getting outside docking range before the docking sequence complete.

strange that some whinerposts sound strange "oh no it never worked".. maybe you only flying pods/shuttles? small ships tend to NOT dock, other ships dock JUST fine (bc,bs,covetor, etc) and it only happens sometimes
but according to your post it never works and the patch is crap anyway and such :-P

It's working for me, but every so often it fails. I've ended up in a clone vat because I was ratting in 0.0, pressed "dock", saw the "warping before dock" message, went downstairs to watch TV... came back in a clone vat :(
Apparently my corp says i was sitting in space for about 2 hours AFK and evidently a nice pplayer (probably trium...:) ) killed meh :(

sometimes happens to me when I warp in and wind up too close to the station, so that the docking request accepted, and towing into station happen at pretty much the exact same time, and I just sit there floating outside the station. Seems that either the client or server syncing isn't accurate enough to cope with it.
I make and distribute care, but I'm out of stock at the moment. |

Tend? If it didn't work before the patch, maybe, just maybe it's not a new bug. And yes it did happen before the patch with large ships too.
And please stop filling the forums with crap, thx.

Ah, so that's what happened. I lost my Buzzard to this 'feature' the other day. Hit 'Dock', left to take care of RL stuff, and came back to my clone and 2 kill mails. T2 cloak ftl. I can afford the ship OK, but the cloak is a ****er.
C'est la vie, I guess.

It worked most of the time - but not all of the time - as I and others found out.
Can't say for after patch - because I won't use it again - its too risky. -------------------------------- So.... |

I've had this happen to me quite a few times - never lost a ship though. I've sat through and watched what happens and it seems to be something like this.
The docking range on a station extends 250m away from a station, so as long as you are in that area when you come out of warp you're good. Or for that matter, if you come out of warp out of warp far enough away from the 250m range that your ship autopilots in. But if you come out of warp and glide through into the 250m docking range the game doesn't register the docking procedures because you have glided into range and it gets hung on some pre-requisite to either move your ship, or just dock (not sure what.)
I hope that makes sense, and I should probably submit a bug report about it...But, meh, I'm not good at explaining things like that.

This happens to me about once ever dozen docking attempts, and has been doing so ever since warp-to-zero hit the game.
It's annoying and dangerous, but I've simply learned not to rely on unsupervised docking when I'm in danger.
It would be nice to get a fix, though. ------------------ Ironfleet.com Proposal: Automated Ore Return Vehicles |

I didn't comment on this patch at all.
I mainly fly Covetors, Mackinaws, Megas and Domi's. ALL ships suffer from this bug and always have, ever since WTZ was introduced. I have it happen to me about 15% of the time. That may not seem like a lot, but it sure is annoying.
We can build huge battlefleets. We can reverse engineer complex equipment and invent new items. We are able to navigate through warp, yet the complexities of docking in a hole five times the size of our ships is beyond us?
