Got a new system with vista ultimate preinstalled and having problem starting the game. It seems it crashes due to graphic card driver issue. I have 2 nvidia 8800 cards in sli mode running current drivers from nvidia site and as soon as I start the game even before the log in screen pops up (still see the user agreement screen) display starts to flicker and get a message that nvlddmku display drivers stops responding. This is only happens on this system, game will run under win xp on different machine. I have reinstalled vid drivers and added the voiceeabled=0 line in config file just to be on the safe side and still have this issue. Any idea guys?

Tried that and even installed dx9c. Wonder if anyone is running the newest 100.65 nvidia drivers with 8800 gtx and having same issue?

1) Installing DX9.0c should not be possible under Vista. If you've managed it, I suggest formatting. DX10 has DX9 emulation (called DX9L), so installing DX9.0c should be impossible (even if you wanted too, there's no point, DX9L is more stable and efficient).
2) There's no fully supported Nvidia driver for the 8800 yet. I know they say there is, but the truth of the matter is that the driver does not support all the functionality of the 8800 (afaik, this is the only one that isn't supported fully).
Nvidia are horribly behind in their Vista drivers. I'm afraid if you're having problems with it, best you can do is wait for Nvidia to get their act together, and get some working Vista drivers out. --- Cache Clearer |

Went to severral gaming sites and they stated that instaling dx9c under vista is not only possible but according to "some experts" required if you going to play older dx9 games. You are actually not removing dx10 and putting dx9 in its place but "augmenting" dx10 with some lines and files from dx9c. It still shows that you are running dx10 by the way. Experimented some more with firewall just to make sure my permissions are okay and all seem okay. The only other thing I guess is to wait for newer drivers and play eve on my xp box.

Download directx 9.0c that also supports vista from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=22&p=4&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=2&SrcFamilyId=&u=%2fdownloads%2fdetails.aspx%3fFamilyID%3d4b1f5d0c-5e44-4864-93cd-464ef59da050%26DisplayLang%3den
Also make sure the user you logon with has full security access to the directory where EVE is installed (usually C:\Progra Files\CCP\EVE). You can change this with windows explorer (Win-E). Right-click on EVE directory and choose properties. Click on the security tab and add the user with "Full Control" rights.
I'm runnning EVE on vista ultimate. No problems after I did the above steps

Edited by: Tkope on 11/03/2007 21:24:41 Primary problem almost every one has with running vista and playing EvE:O is the lack of solid drivers that function correctly.
There is no reason or need to mess with the DX10. My computer has been running Vista Ultimate since Feb 2006. (I am part Beta Tap Program) The only issue I had with it at the start was my ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512Mb card did not like a driver I had installed. Once I replaced the driver with a more stable driver. EvE has been funtioning normal ever since.
Which is the primary reason I will not buy Nvidia Video cards. They suck for driver support. Always buggy and behind the times. Nvidia has had over a year to get the driver code in place for vista.

Yep 100% convinced my issue is driver related. Checked guru3d board and a lot of folks there complaining about same issue with different games (vid driver stops responding). There is a beta driver out for 8800 cards but I hear it still have problems so I'll just wait and play EvE on my xp box. Thanks for the help guys.
