Edited by: Danti Shidomu on 06/03/2007 17:56:54 You got your Procurer, retriever, covetor. And i'm aiming for Retriever.
With 2 strip miners I's. Now i ran some numbers, thinking barges are teh ****nit, and i came to the conclusion that each Strip Miner laser yields 180M3/minute!
Which means, compared to my Vexor with 4 Miner II's lasers (which yields 240/minute), a procurer is worth zip! And the gain from a retriever, with a strip miner I, isnŠt even double :P.
Am i missing something people? Have I been brainwashing myself about the awesome yielding power that is the mining barges, or am i missing something?
Thank you for helping out

Just ignore the Procurer it isn't worth it get straight into a retriever and a Coveter - - - - - -<Sig>- - - - - -

Thats odd that you come up with that. My strip miners, without mods, mined around 980m3 per cycle, which is over 300m3 per minute.

180 yes, per miner.
360 per minute, on the retriever, before skills, wich is easily comparable with 6 Miner II's, on a ship with the same bonuses, and drone space.
Wich makes it kinda interesting at a covetor, try fitting 9 miner II's with a mining upgrade on any ship. Oh, and make sure that you have a +15% yield on that very ship aswell.
If you do, pad yourself on the back and do the same comparission with a Hulk.

That is including skills, and with those exact skills(and bonuses), your Miner II's would pull about 100m3 per minute.

Yeah, barges don't really get worth it until the Covetor. If you're just doing mining on the side and don't plan on doing it long term, you're better off training for a BS (ideally Rokh, Apoc, or Domi) and mining with it.

Alrighty, thats pretty much a confirmation then really. But thanks for pointing out the awesomeness of the covetor aswell.
I guess i got it now :).

Procurer is garbage...I'm not even sure why it exists except to maybe make noobs feel dumb when they realize they can outmine it in an osprey.
Start with a retriever and work up to a covvy if you're serious about mining.

The Procurer exists solely to be the base of the Skiff.

not only that the skill requirements from retriever to covoter are quite harsh at least in my book but from coveter to hulk not so bad. considering there is only one exhumer. the skill book for exhumer is another point crazy expensive for a ship that is already expensive to begin with. yes i know not neccessarily ccps fault however expensive none the less.

3x Miner II = 1x Strip Miner I
1x Strip Miner = 540/180sec = 180/60sec = 3/sec
1x Modulated Strip Miner II + T1 Crystal = 360/180 * 1.625 = 585/180 = 195/60sec = 3.25/sec ~8% better then 3x Miner II
1x Modulated Strip Miner II + T1 Crystal = 360/180 * 1.75 = 630/180 = 210/60sec = 3.5/sec ~14% better then 3x Miner II
remember you are comparing t1 to t2 goods now be fair and use t2 vs t2. Thank you very much.

8 x Miner II = Several Million ISK 4 x MLU = Few Hundred Thousound ISK 1 x Rokh = Hundred Million Isk
Out mining a T1 covetor = Priceless

Then what are the numbers for t2 modulated stripminers with t2 crystals? Tally HO!! |

Halada Wrote this great Mining Guide, if you can find it, read it a few times it has all the numbers and info you could ever want about mining. I printed it out and keep it next to my computer when I mine.

It was a typing Error. The second set was t1 crystals. Look at the two different modification %.

Rokh 8 Miner II * 60/60 = 480/60 480/60 * (1.05^4) => 480/60 * ~1.216 = ~584/60 584/60 = ~9.73per sec
Retriever 2x Modulated Strip Miner II + T2 Crystal = 360/180 * 1.75 = 630/180 * 2 = 210/60sec * 2 = 410/60 * 1.05 = 430.5/60 * 1.12(Barge IV) = 482.16/60 = 8.04per sec ----------------------------------------------------------- Tool _ price * amount = Cost Rohk _ 165mil * 1 = 165mil _MLU _ 65k * 4 = 260k M II _ 80k * 8 = 640k Total: 165,000k + 260k + 640k = 165,900k = 165.9mil
Retr _ 5.8mil * 1 = 5.8mil _MLU _ 65k * 1 = 65k SMII _ 4.9 * 2 = 9.8mil MCII _ 200k * 2 = 400k Total: 5,800k + 9,800k + 400k + 65k = 16,065k = 16.065mil
The Retriever is 1033% cheaper at a loss of: 101.4/60sec or 1.69m3/sec ore a sec. Now you tell me what is worth it or not.

Edited by: Tulisin Dragonflame on 07/03/2007 03:03:47 Time is invaluable, I'd definitely drop the ISK to not have to worry about all that time training barge skills and just mine with a BS. The Rokh price itself is negligible as BS mining is (from what I've seen) mostly "Hey, I have a Rokh/am planning to get one, I'll train the skills and mine with it" as opposed to "I'll train up for a Rokh so I can mine".

I'd like to preface this by noting that I am still pretty newb, but, isn't another huge advantage of the barge the ability to mine Ice? this isn't possible w/ anything smaller. so, losing 100/min, spending 1003% less, seems very valuable to me.

The topic is focused on mining not just to happen to have a BS but as a mining craft itself.
