Ok, this is half rant, half curiosity.
I'm sitting on a dock, see a flashy, I engage it. INSTANTLY it changed into a Vindicator and knocks me off the dock, keeps pushing me and blows me up.
I need to know, how was this even possible. A merlin turned into a Vindi in the flash of an eye.

If 'instantly' was 5 seconds or so then sure.
To OP, Report it, CCP will investigate and see what the logs show, and if he did do something funky logs will show it I'm sure. |

Bingo. A friendly Orca can carry other ships (including a Vindicator) and the pilot can have the Orca's Ship Maintenance Bay open and ready to swap ships with a double-click.

Hardly. Just because you don't understand the rules doesn't mean it's BS. If you where to simply watch the Amarr undock,
( Assuming Amarr as PIRAT does the bowhead swap a lot, )
You would notice this happen. Instead you saw a suspect and engaged it probably without thought and died.
You where tricked by someone betting on your ignorance. The guy has his bowhead literally sitting right next to him.
EDIT: It totally was PIRAT and it was totally the member who uses the Bowhead.

Cara mentioned Orca, I don't think a BS can fit in an Orca, must have been a Bowhead.
But I still stand by my comment, if you don't know the rules to station games, don't play them, or at least not in your half a bill insta locking T3.

Blast the Merlin apart with a larger ship... something the Vindicator won't like tangling with. When he does it again, you do it again. Cost him a lot of Merlin's. Make it not worth his while. Have your buddies do it too. Put a cargo container next to him that says "This moron in the Merlin is insta-swapping with a larger ship, don't engage him unless you want a bigger fight on your hands."
If people want to play rules games, let them.

There is a session change timer when anyone ejects from a ship. That timer prevents jumping in another ship until it expires.
Rather than hax, this is more likely just not understanding mechanics and being caught out. 10 seconds can zip by quick once you start in a pvp situation. |

So the summary of this thread is: 1. OP doesn't know certain mechanic 2. Said mechanic made him lost internet space ship 3. Gets butt blasted ultra mad 4. Cries at forums about "exploit" 5. Surprise it's a legitimate game mechanic! Now with added DEV post! 6. Gets even madder while people argue about minute details about said game mechanic
Edit: Now I learned something new!

The appropriate solution would be for the timers/flags to pass to the orca/bowhead pilot.
So naturally CCP will ignore it completely or remove it entirely instead.

So naturally CCP will ignore it completely or remove it entirely instead. This would end up creating more issues than it solves.
First, it would be a great buff to awoxxing, especially in mining fleets. If you can transfer your suspect flag to an Orca pilot through the fleet hangar, the tears would just change from the OPs, to some Orca pilot's claiming an exploit instead. That kind of also breaks the current approach to crimewatch, in which one of the principles is that no one can cause you to go suspect/criminal. It has to be your own direct action.
It would also be the end of public mining fleets providing links. Many of them allow the use of the fleet hangar for ore storage. If you can put something in a fleet hangar while suspect and transfer the flag, that would be a gankers wet dream. Free kills with no CONCORD, just by putting a mining ship in the fleet first. |
