Last night in the new areas of space an epic battle (well epic for us involved) took place. It lasted for over two hours. TWO HOURS of non-stop locking and firing. TWO hours of engagement...longest straight up battle we've ever had.
We went and poked at them a little, killed a few, lost a few nothing major for either side, we then returned back to what we consider our area and they followed. There were 15 of us, 58 of them. They jumped into our gate camp. For the next two hours we stood toe to toe and slugged it out.
Lots of ships lost but fun had by all and not one ill word spoken through out it all, not one.
We did lose 3 carriers to their ingenuity, but they for sure knew they had been in a battle. Its time for us all to lick our wounds a little and go back and do it some more,! This is what eve was/is all about, FUN, FUN, FUN!

IT was a great fight guys havent had that much fun in a long time. Very Very good team work on those carriers thought you guys were going to make it to downtime there for a few. In the end fun was had by all even if we did lose lots of isk on both sides, but that why we make it to have fun. Good job to Ratel see you in space.

Yes indeed, was quite the battle. No POS crap, no crazy sniper ganks, just a straight out slugfest, with nearly every class of ship involved.
From my perspective the way it went down was this: Ratel has had a habit of coming to our space and killing our more unaware players. We usually get a gang together to drive them away, and that was what happened last night. After killing three Ratel BC's their gang moved steadily back to their claimed space, about 16 jumps from our home system. It was quickly decided that, with our superior numbers, we would follow.
15 jumps later and intel reported a large bubble in the destination system. 1 carrier on the gate, 5 BS and about 10 support. It didn't seem like much vs our gang of 50+ assorted ships, and so after some quick preparations we warped in, held cloak, called primary's and went at it. As the first Ratel ships went down, four more carriers warped in to join the first. Right as it seemed that we would be claiming the field, a swarm of fighters began to decimate our battleships.
But, such was the numerical advantage that soon all Ratel support was cleared and the carriers became primary. In attempts to save their capital ships, support of all sizes warped to the field and were dispatched in short order. Every time we switched back to the carriers, they were fully repaired and soon it became obvious they were all repping each other, making an almost invincible tank against our battered gang. As people warped back in to fight us in their second, third, and even fourth ships, we continued to take losses without making any headway against their carriers.
As the fighters continued to take their toll we switched to a carrier outside transfer range, however our DPS had been taken out, and our small ships were ineffective. A good hour after the fighting had started, the order was made to regroup at a safespot. Thinking they'd won the field, Ratel haulers and the few support they could muster looted the dozens of wrecks scattered around the jumpgate. We didn't like the idea of them walking home with our mods, so we once again warped in, taking out some haulers.
We had less than twenty ships left, and only one BS. But we weren't done yet. Seeing two of their carriers log, three continued to guard the gate. Again the call was made to warp in, and then local spiked. 18 FREGE battleships with minimal support had come down to reinforce, and as the interdictor bubble was dropped on the grouped carriers, we unleashed everything we had. Intel came in that a Ratel support gang was en route from empire, however FREGE pilots coming from empire as well dispersed them.
It took over 15 minutes to break the archon's tank as he was periodically assisted by his friends between EW cycles. However, once he went down, one thanatos and then another succumbed to our firepower, and the battle finally ended. We lost nearly everything we'd brought in the first gang including over 12 BS, another 12 BC and various smaller ships. Ratel lost 12 confirmed BS and similar amounts of support.
The entire time there was nothing in local but salutes and GF's. I am extremely impressed with Ratel's willingness to engage against the odds, and even more impressed with their show of how effective carriers can be outside of a POS bubble. I am also proud of FREGE for keeping it civil, and preforming so well.

Edited by: Esurnir on 03/03/2007 20:56:46 That was an awsome fight . Lost 2 tackling rifter (And one smartbombed by that damn thanatos next time, never come after a ship that is behind a smartbombing carrier).
The first time I came in I thought we could have pawned that lone carrier easely...
I was shocked when I saw 2 archon warping in and spamming my screen with small cross. And at first I thought the battle was definitivly lost, even after taking down the support fleet the thanatos tanked our damage like crazy and the fighter pounded us... We even tried to take down (unsuccessfully) that buble to make people escape. But... the reinforcement came from ngm, 40 more ship came in and the tide of battle changed. The fighter were wiped and we pounded Scuzzy with sheering hell of dps .
Any way I had fun, no smack (or I think we did not was not there at the end of the fight), no evil tactic, just lot's of fun and suspens. ----

It's safe to say we all had fun, despite the losses, we all learned something as well!

the carrier pilots were laughing with glee on TS even as they were dying, they had a great time guys.
im afraid i was near useless, i was going to use sentry drones and cruise missiles to kill some of your very effective dampening cruisers, but then i got beset by painfull things :D

Edited by: Aerick Dawn on 03/03/2007 21:38:22 That was the best fight, and most enjoyable time I think I've had in a video game period. We never think carriers should be sitting in bubbles doling out fighters, and that was our first huge scrap with a limited number of them.
We are definitely doing that again! That's how fights should be.
Sorry I crashed towards the end, anyhow, my wingman Tharamis smartbombed my pod, who knows what you would have done to me if captured.
I always knew that if I was going to go down, it would be with my buddies at my side. That rocked, hard. Your analysis of the battle is pretty spot on, we started having some trouble when you got your EW game on. Your courage in the face of that has definitely garnered serious respect from us. My salute to you.
In the end 67 of the enemy lay dead. 3 of our capital ships and our support fleet as well for the most part lay in ruins.( our fleet of 12-15) The odds were something like 5:1 at all times which was just crazy stuff. The alamo definitely comes to mind, hehe.
Again, respect to you for sticking to your guns.
Despite losing my carrier, I went to bed with a big @#@# eating grin on my face.

We tried hard to get the carriers pilot pod but somehow Tharamis beat us by a large margin . He podded both of the carrier pilot before we even locked the pod. (and even if we did, our self conservation instinct told us that short range firing at you guys was a verry dumb idea .

Lucky you. At 5 o 'clock in the morning I had a cow killing headache when I went to bed that day ! But somehow for the fun I had (the most fun part was when I started chasing down your fighters) I really dont regret it.
That's how battle should be, and your carriers took a big toll of our bs fleet. ----

It came down from the security council, when it was apparent the carriers where going to be lost, that the combined Intel garnered from all three pilots was just too much for you to get your hands on. With interdictors holding the pods I was told to do what we all hope to never have to do.

As im short on time here, i would just like to take a minute to thank FREGE! AWESOME! I second everything said already.
The intel we gathered on our side as far as bringing cap ships straight into the throat of the battle (As well as anyone ever concedering doing so) was worth two Archons to me..... Would you like to simply blow me up again, or would you like me to escrow the second to ya?
I hope this has not caused either of our honerable alliances to hesitate in sticking with the battle to the bitter end! Not a single pilot went to hide, i like the "screew it", "Im going in" attitude by everyone!
And also a second and as important props to CCP.... this is the first semi/large to large battle ive seen with no node errors, yes lag sucked, but try going to jita with 300 afk pilots littering local without horible lag is also imposible. Thanx CCP for making this possible!! (I take back all the dirty little comments that have ever crossed my mind, and only one that i made vocal ) J/K

I've been in quite a few large fleet actions, and I've got to second this post...and go even further. I'm using Cedega via linux, AND was in a hurricane orbiting said carriers between 2-15km for lockdown and dps duties during the second wave (we were part of the reinforcements that went flying to assist when the call went out) and although the entry lag was somewhat 'still life', once fully loaded in the system, my frame rate, while not uber, was fightable. I was expecting far far worse, and this was a pleasant surprise. Could it be better...hell yes, get a proper GFX engine in there, but it WAS doable, and that deserves props and thank yous to CCP.

Edited by: Typhado3 on 03/03/2007 23:28:21 o7 salute to all the pilots in Ratel who fought in that battle. you fought honorably and did not smack or cry or complain. I was there from start to finish though I had a few moments where I though i was gonna die, like when u had me warp scrambled in armour and drones on me, or when I had fighters chasing me around system. Very fun fight, with no smack, tolerable lag, and a pretty even battle (though at times one side was winning it could have changed, and if your backup fleet hadn't been stopped before getting to us I'm not sure what would have happened). Hope to have more battles like this, though not too soon I still need to recover from staying up too late =)

Edited by: Wesley Baird on 03/03/2007 23:41:39 First and foremost I want to say I have earned a massive amount of respect for Ratel.
Ratel have ganked alot of my fellow Frege pilots over the last few weeks, you could argue if you dont pay attention in local, you kind of deserve it!
There was some back and forth over the last week, which was good fun on both sides. One thing is Ratel never play log games, true warriors even when ganking!
I ran out of ammo at one point when the real fleet fight began, and was trying to loot ammo from wrecks when I found myself 9km from a carrier who showed me how long a Caracal lasts when having 5-10 fighters one you! I didnt mind getting podded by a Carrier either, even if it cost me $90 mill in implants. I was killed by a Carrier! How cool is that?!
Since I was podded I appeared back in our home system, got back into a Caracal and ran straight back up to Ratel home space. 15 minutes later I was on the gate in, we had 20 ships waiting on the gate to jump in. Being stupidly eager I jumped as soon as the command was given, and started targeting...which lead to 10 fighters finding my Caracal! Well, our guys had destroyed the large bubble by this time. So I was able to warp away with 25% structure left! I faught the rest of the night with fire spewing from my ship. LOL
Fighting all of those fighters was incredibly hard, and they are mean!
3 Carriers spider repping is a tank like I have never seen before. The battle was very hard fought, and looked like we were going to lose for awhile.
It was a smack free fight, where both sides faught like the devil. I for one say Ratel earned my total respect with that fight, a class alliance who it was an honor to have been at battle with. I lost my implants, got killed by a carrier and landed the final blow on a carrier. That whole fight was the top moment of my eve Career.

I DARE some one to say," it's ok to log off to save a cap ship" "NO ONE would stay loged on if thier bil isk cap ship were going down".I am going to point to this post and say, you see those men, those are real fighting spirits. Not tail between the legs sissies running from the inevetable. You folks proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the log off-skies *cough*MDK*cough* are a sad, pitifull cancer, eating at the underbellie of a truelly great comunity.

Yeh Frege alliance is a top alliance. They are never afraid to engage us. I myself have been very lucky to not be killed by them.
5 interceptors and 1 cruiser - including myself in a taranis went raiding the new regions looking for fun. we spyed a system with 40 people in it and ran straight in. we found a domi at a belt and attacked. he had a good tank and managed to kill one raptor before we overpowered him. we then started jumping around systems close by. we believed that a small dictor bubble had been set up on the wrong gate so i decided to have a look on the other side. after jumping i saw an additional 40 members on the gate and a dictor bubble up. the bubble had literaly missed me by a few 100ms i was very lucky to get out of that one. then having narowly missed that camp there was a third! with a medium bubble. thankfully there where no tacklers on that gate and i was able to get away. but a fantastic responce from Frege and very unlucky not to catch me >_>

Much appeciation to Frege for smack free fun- No, I was not online- No, I don't care that we lost more isk- Yes, I do care that it was fun for pilots, on both sides, there was some uncertainty at the outcome, and that people can lose ships, clones and implants and not start crying "CCP sucks", "I lost due to lag", or other bull.
Kudo's and mucho respect for the Frege Pilots, and of course, thanks to the Ratel pilots for doing everything asked and more.

Heavy props to FREGE for bringin' it. Good fight, gentlemen.
For 5:1 odds, I'd say those carriers held in for one hell of a fight, damn near solo for the second wave.
I lost a good share of my pvp ships up here, and realized that you're just ****in' our support ships, so I decided I'd try and fraps the thing. Unforunately, one of your 'dictor pilots decided that killing pods was more important than killing carriers :(
Ahh well.
Soon as I get that video compressed (55gb uncompressed spread among a dozen files, ugh), I'll be sure to upload it. It doesn't even cover the whole of the first wave :(
