With the June release on June 28, we bring back events with a completely overhauled design making them much better visible.
Together with this new event "Shadow of the Serpent: Signal the Dawn" we also introduce a new event framework to help you participate in the various tasks of this event and to enable you to influence the EVE Online storyline.
Check out the exciting changes in CCP Affinity's latest blog Shadow of the Serpent: Signal the Dawn.
Please note that all images in the dev blog are placeholders and that as such the text visible in the images does not reflect the event content.

Well, the Dev Blog is a little vague about the actual timing. Is there an event happening "over the next few weeks", or does it all start after June 28th.
Either way, sounds great. More content is always welcome!

This event looks very exciting. Unfortunately, it begins the day I start driving across the country. Why can't you take my personal schedule into account, CCP?
Just kidding, it will be a nice thing to look forward to at the end of each 1000-mile day.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I liek this style of event. It reminds me a lot of what other MMO's do, which isn't bad per s+¬.
I am curious to see how this pans out. I do agree that the previous events were too invisible to a lot of players, this seems like a nice framework to use for more events in the future. |

I really like this.
One of my "issues" with the previous events were that I had a limited amount of time to play, and finding the event sites took up most of my time. Then there was the unknowns like, "could I do this in a DD, or do I need a CL or BC?"
I appreciate the more clear and defined requirements to participate. Like, "mine X of Y" is easily understandable. "Build X of Y" is likewise clearly defined. Any DED sites could have a short intel-brief that might mention "you might be expected to face a Serpentis cruiser force." That would be vague enough to not know what to expect, but clear enough that a cruiser is the most powerful ship(s) in the site.
Especially for new(er)bros, providing in-game information makes the game more accessible. Not everyone might enjoy facing the penultimate boss in EVE to discover what they need to know.
Also, if sites are part of an event there need to be enough of them! As I mentioned before, finding a Crimson or Angel site was very difficult, especially in Hisec (which made me feel that the event was more for Null players than me.)
So yea: accessibility, clarity, availability are important to me to participate. |

I think more logic should be added to site spawning, so that less sites spawn in systems where less are being completed, (perhaps set a max active number) and those potential spawns are redirected elsewhere. The total number of sites spawning would stay the same.

So yea: accessibility, clarity, availability are important to me to participate. CCP may have an idea of how much loot and value they want to inject into the economy, via site spawn rates. Ofc the "good" loot can be quite rare, I didn't find any of the cooler stuff folks were talking about in the last event, with over 50 sites completed. If combat event sites are made too common, average loot values go down and everyone can gravitate toward their own private site. Less "player interaction" happens, and I don't just mean player pirates. I occasionally found myself in a race for the loot, and some pilots and ship types were better at it.
This upcoming event looks like it is going to include a variety of activities, that should help more play styles to participate, and may help overcome any technical limits to combat-only site distribution.
CCP Affinity wrote:...if multiple people are in the site when it is completed, everyone gets the reward. Fixes complaints about "competition" for site rewards in highsec... is this a form of the Incursion rewards model? That already has a UI that directs players to the "event." |

I liked the very first event most, because it was low in-game skill demand but tricky to get a good quantity of sites (wormholes), the loot was a high-demand consumable not traded in the market, the sites a conflict driver and the value allowed for north of 250m ISK/h purely market neutral profit if you knew how. For me this is the gold standard of events together with being a rare thing.
I like the UI improvements and looking forward to the surprise . But I'm concerned about making this a permanent or exchangeable thing taking away the unique event character, and as an easy access event for everybody having to make the loot mediocre.
There was the question about taking sides above ... this is an excellent idea, let us choose a faction when entering a side with the rules of faction warfare while in the site for maximum reward.

So you can gain rewards (or at least points toward such) for killing people inside these event sites? -- - -- - --
So I know the example pic at the log in screen is just that, an example but to satisfy my curiosity - It shows you have earned 6,400 reward points and need 15,000 for the next reward. The next part of the event is in 3 parts and is worth 700 reward points - Presuming these are designed so everyone has an equal opportunity to complete them and they don't just get impossible for some by getting increasingly harder to complete (for more reward points). You will need to complete approximately 12 challenges for the next reward at 15,000 reward points?
NB; I have many more questions (the blog is somewhat vague) but one thing at a time.
My opinions are mine.
If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - -

Everyone gets the reward :) So if multiple people are in the site when it is completed, everyone gets the reward. Do they need to be in the same fleet, corp or alliance or can I just warp to any site and collect rewards on its completion without having participated? Will I be able to sit cloaked up and kill the person who ran the site - After he has completed it and I have collected my rewards?
If so this is a little random and not fitting within a balanced event reward structure - Unless the reward is group based (the description states it requires more than one player to complete) it should only reward the individual who accepts and completes the challenge.
Again we're (CCP Affinity) being a little vague about how these will work here. This is Eve, people will abuse this system if it is not properly managed from the start. Devs need to take player behavior into consideration when designing new content - this one smacks a little of, near enough is good enough, we'll fix it later. It is very likely ( in lowsec and nul especially) that these will simply become gank fests where the person who started the site dies and the group who kill him get the rewards.
I suppose the rest of Eve is just a gank/N+1 fest, why should new content be any different..... Eve is about rewarding the worst behavior of its players, this will fit right in..
My opinions are mine.

So the sites work as sort of communal quest as seen in other mmo's. EvE is a unique mmo, and pretty much will remain a unique mmo. it's what draws us in to play it. But it doesn't mean it should me immune to osmosis, if something works well in other mmo's then whats the real harm in incorporating it into EvE, perhaps bitter vets should look not look at it as a dilution of EvE but as a new opportunity to vary there game play and inject new interest. Not many mmo's have survived as long as EvE and I'm sure many would agree even the ones that have are pretty pointless your actions rarely have consequence, but in EvE our actions however small we perceive them to be may have huge knock on effects which can shape political and economic landscape of eve. |

They were pretty specific that those were just generic examples. I assume you were speaking of the idea in general though. The game cant stay 100% sandbox, its not growing. If we add 2% theme park, perhaps that will grow the player base a little and give you (and me) more people to shoot. Then everyone wins. Holding on tight and yelling "Don't change, Don't change!" until your the only one left on the server is not an answer.

I'm not sure "communal" is the right word in context. Communal indicates anyone from within the community is able to just enter a site and get rewarded for it when the site completes - This is not a good thing - Rewards should be earned not just handed to anyone who can use scan probes and warp to a site. Which is why I asked CCP Affinity to clarify her statement.
Also, yes Eve has survived a long time due to it not being like other MMO's - It is quickly becoming like many other MMO's, so is the time when it, like many before it, become just mediocre games where your achievements mean little and the knock on effects will be the same - Why bother, everything stays the same no matter what we do - Eve's uniqueness is being slowly eroded away to where, pretty soon (a few years, tops) it will be just another MMO that you need to do X to get Y to complete your set. And your credit card will always need to be handy for the next expansion - Because I want what he has and it is available as a "buy it now" option in the cash store.
There is one thing that stands out that has kept me playing Eve - I don't need to run dungeons more than the next guy to get the best XXX so I can win. I can win in a 500K frigate as easily as I can lose in a 2 Bil T3.
Eventually this sort of thing leads to, gold ammo type scenarios, no matter how much CCP say they won't do it, believing them is difficult when $ are involved. They have shown already they aren't prepared to stand by previous statements regarding skill point acquisition by introducing "dailies". What's next? -- - -- - -- As for any rewards from the Shadow event. It is likely to end like most events involving rewards do in Eve - The market soon gets flooded with the reward items driving their price down so much the events are really not worth doing. I have a collection of over 100 skins from recent events - They aren't worth selling, the transaction and brokers fees are more than they are worth, simply because the market got flooded; These "rewards" aren't "special" when everyone has multiple of them. Skins I have that were selling for 1.5 to 2 mil are now worth 4,000. Thukker component assembly arrays (I have 84 BPC's), current value, 50% less than it costs to build them.
So yes, these events will help shape the future economic face of Eve - Via the price of each reward being lowered each time someone completes one.
My opinions are mine.

Something I like about the PVE of this game is that players work on a variety of different individual objectives. Even missions give you a choice or who to fight for (and against).
In these one-off events, by contrast, everyone involved is working towards the same goal, at the same time, through the same content. That's okay, they're one-offs. But if this activities framework is going to become a permanent feature of the game, choice and flexible objectives are maybe something to think about.

I'm not against a few theme park rides (particularly in relation to the new player experience), but this event seems like something ripped straight from WOW.
When we start to see hunting boars, daily quests, and pay-to-win in Eve, then that is when I doubt whether the current crop of devs really know how to come up with any interesting and creative ideas for Eve.

I want to like it. It feels like they really took player feedback into consideration, and it was not the "bad" kind of feedback.
It tastes and feels like daily quest grind right now, which is something I have loathed in other games.
The outlook and chance of joining in on the Serpentis side remains to be seen how it will be implemented.
But in all honestly, I think all this "carrot on a stick" stuff is not a road you should be pursuing. I know you put in effort and all, so I will not call it a "bandaid fix." However, you try to tie the NPC world to the player in a superficial and "controlled" way instead of pushing it to be the living, breathing entity it should always have been. On the contrary, with all events you bring, you seem to unhinge the feel of the game world more and more.
Opportunities have been a failure to try to integrate players into the game. Events structured like this might as well be a failure as players will only see the goals and rewards instead of what they actually should be doing. Or when was the last time someone could paraphrase you the general content of the agent mission text after they auto-accepted the mission a hundredth time...? |

All I see is new UI. Under that I see grind. It's feels disconnected to the game.
For new players that are escaping other grindy games that UI will be first and last thing they will see in EvE. It's like you posting on loggin screen what EvE is (which is not).
There are too little info about this feature. What kind of sites there will be (combat becons?) ? How players will compete there (directly or indirectly?) Are they will be in all spaces? Any reputation changes by doing them? Will they spawn like in other events? Any scannable sites?
From what I see there will be reachable from all places agents with tasks do for LPs rewards. Simpilfied agents from current missions. Sell me this feature becasue I don't see potential here.

I really wish CCP would actually cater to and even code rewards and such for those people who like to fight against the tide or just do something different. (I.e in this case Serpentis Loyalists). CCP are totally right - you can kill people running the sites or you can ~try~ to defend Serpentis ships, but dont expect anything official to recognise your efforts.
I just really wish the game mechanics supported both sides instead of there being nothing concrete for you to do if you want to go against the capsuleers and side with the others.
Either way the new UI for event missions looks ok.

Ignore answering questions you personally posed and answer a post with a very non committal, nothing to see here response. Awesome, another Fozzie clone on the Dev team, respond in a thread and say nothing.
PS; How long does it take to learn to write something and say nothing... Where is the information about this and maybe future events? The blog is so vague as to seem it was written without any thought for its reading audience.

These content-rich limited-time events came before "dailies,' and are far more interesting than that blatantly manipulative content-free feature. If skillpoints are not part of the prize packages, (extractors are OK) I will have no objection to the rewards. Loot is cool, but skillpoint trading was sold to the players as a commodity that would only come from other players. |

Love this.
I've been wanting more of these things to be made more prominent in game for a while.
Next I'd like to see other aspects of the lore better incorporated into the game and made more accessible and available.
Improve the mission system, with more meaningful progressing non-repeatable missions that advance story-lines, character arcs, etc... (Some may be historical, but available for people who haven't done them. This might be facilitated better by a time-line so a player can see where the mission they are taking part in fits with the time line of events. Lore events and story that should be accessible from within game). Let us learn how all these things are woven together in the grand arc of time in New Eden, and be able to do that and see it in game.
Sand-boxy snobs who don't like this sort of stuff are free to ignore it. But of course those people typically demand that everyone play the game the way they want it to be played.

Very much this!! I hear a lot about Drifters and Sleepers and various factions and characters, but none of the missions I've done tells any of that story (so far). I get a lot of 'take this crate of quafe to someone' and 'kill this person who stole from us'. Story/lore missions would be a great addition imo. And none of this takes anything away from the sandbox, so there is no need to fear. |

Now what happens if i eat too much of this "content"? "Fat and Lazy" and evtl. diabetes are long term problems. The Lazy part is especially problematic, because many sand-box features are created around its absence. --- Sugar is unhealthy for getting old (see EVE compared to other MMOs). CCPlease, DO NOT TRY TO PUSH SUGAR LEVELS TO PROLONGED HIGHTS!!!! --- The minimum you can do is: include long term industry into the process of getting a useful item out of the rewards! Therefor isk/h will be balanced around long-short term activities. (example: if putting out real (=/=bpc) ships and uncontestable (=redeemable) Loot its one-sided) Add a way to play the passive-income-preparation game and participate like that! (example: deployable serpentis yards (with citadel defence mechanix but waaaaay smaller of course). planned setup, guard, defend, income over time. join the serpentis side!!) --- Thats what i see when coming to SiSi to pioneer. So how many of these will an individual need to complete to see, a Gila is it? A gila was a placeholder reward :) That doesn't really answer much of anything. A gila is a nice reward - As long as it is worth going after. It isn't judging by the SISI example.
It seems from the example on SISI, your not getting a reward for a long time unless all you do is these things and in fairly large groups. So is there a more realistic example of what this is likely to entail, what the rewards are likely to be etc - Or haven't those parts (you know, the basics of time vs risk vs reward) been worked out yet?
I'm really not sure Shadow of the serpent thing is a good idea - Even the current lot on display at log in - complete 20 sites (in 2 or 3 different regions) for 2,000 reward points, when the first (unknown) reward is 10,000.
Giving nulsec carebears even more opportunity to make, whatever the eventual reward is likely to be - Really?
Each part of these seems to have a relatively short completion time (19 hrs 48 mins) remaining on all 4 quests (for want a of better word). So if you don't commit to do these every day, say get 4 of 5 shipyards completed, because you have a life outside eve - you get nothing.
I really don't expect a response - judging by your last one, you don't know the answers - Or haven't made them up yet.

I'm very excited! I've been playing EVE for over 8 years and I've never seen anything like this. However, I'm wondering how Shadow of the Serpentis will benefit "Lone Wolf" capsuleers like myself? I solely stick to mission running, manufacturing and exploring. Because, I've been in many corps and alliances, lost tons of ships and isk. All while having loads of fun, frustration and grief. The last corp I was a member of faked an Alliance war by using their alts to form a new alliance. So, they ambushed us and killed the entire corp just to brag and beef up their kill mail reports. Then, they ran off with trillions of our isk and mods! I now fly alone and haven't joined a player controlled corp in over 4 years. (Sorry for the RANT)
So, to clarify. I'm wondering if this new "S.O.S" - Shadow of the Serpentis event will have challenge missions in high sec that will drop rare mods, blueprints and implants. If so, this will finally allow prudent capsuleers who hate traveling to null sec, a chance to get some profitable npc kills and rare loot. Currently, rare loot drops can ONLY be found in null sec. Also, those "Burner Missions" were a total failure! They trick mission running capsuleers into fighting "pvp style" battles against the computer. I lost 8 extremely expensive ships, drones and mods before I finally gave up on burner missions. Or, will this event be something that will only benefit the capsuleers who are willing to risk getting gate camped and ganked while going to Fountain in order to complete a Serpentis Mission site? |

I think you will find something like this, sites will spawn randomly in highsec everywhere, and completing the challenges for points puts you on a path to various prize tiers. They will require quite a bit of spam & repetition (one challenge is 'shoot 200 serpentis NPC's in 24h') This recent dev blog goes into a bit more detail about prizes.
But even without this event, all players have a chance to find faction module drops when completing various Cosmic Signature sites. These are found with scan probes, and many have a DED rating, 3/10 being the most common 'best' in highsec, but there are a few rarer 4/10 to find, which are more challenging/rewarding. Completing a number of these sites is another of the possible 'challenges' that can score points for the upcoming event. |

There is a fixed amount of points to be earned in this event, so; What happens if say; 100 players all have the same score at the same time at the end of the event - 95 have dedicated a lot of time chasing the top reward to miss out and 5 of those may get the second top reward while the other 90, just wasted their time?

We have balanced and worked out the rewards but we are not announcing exactly what they are as that ruins the fun for the majority of players. The same way we do not announce ahead of time exactly what will be in the loot tables of sites.
To touch on your questions about completion time; there are a few 24 hour challenges, but a very small number compared to the standard challenges. The majority of challenges will expire after 3 days, or if you complete one you automatically receive another which will have a new 3 day expiry time. The reason for 3 days is to give people plenty of time to do whatever challenges they would like but if you end up with 4 challenges you don't like the look of, you aren't forced to do them, you can wait on the expiry. The event will run for 6 weeks, so you absolutely do not have to do challenges everyday to earn the rewards if you do not wish to.

There isn't a fixed amount of points. There is a set number of points required to earn the top tier reward container; everyone is able to earn that reward and then if you want to, you can keep earning points from challenges after that. The players with the top points at the end of the event will win the Vendetta or Vanquisher BPCs.

If more than 10 players are eligible for the top prizes, how will the decision on who wasted their time be made? Will there be some way to track your position in the rankings during the event? There isn't a fixed amount of points. There is a set number of points required to earn the top tier reward container; everyone is able to earn that reward and then if you want to, you can keep earning points from challenges after that. The players with the top points at the end of the event will win the Vendetta or Vanquisher BPCs. So what is on SISi bares no resemblance to what will likely be on TQ? Because what is on SISi looks like it will take longer than the event runs to acquire the maximum points if you miss a day or two..
Also, "fixing" the event so only a dedicated PVE'r who plays for hours everyday can win the top reward - Not very sporting. IF the top rewards can be won prior to the event ending (the point system will need to be very different to the one shown on SISI) it leaves out a large number of players who can't (usually due to having a life) dedicate the hours required each day to something like this.
Prizes being won prior to the event ending - How can you track your position so you don't waste your time chasing a reward that has already been allocated? There will be those who do this just for a chance at the top rewards, it is not fair on them if they can't know when they have been won and so drop the event. Having players to log in under the misapprehension they have a chance of winning a major prize - Not good for PR, future events or your dedicated player base.
And of course there is the TZ bias to be considered as well - EU TZ have a large advantage over everyone else who plays Eve because they gain access to the new daily quests well before everyone else. So could get to the top reward before others are even able to complete it.
Finally, as I asked above - What happens if more than 10 players reach the top reward points at the same time? I suppose, unless there is a way to track individual placings and the top rewards will be won during the event (not at the end of it), CCP can just pick their own winners..
My opinions are mine.

A public Top-10 ranking that is frequently updated, with the players accumulated point totals would be nice for tracking how impossibly far away you are to those players, and thus know when to give up hope and play some other game, if the top 10 reward is all you cared about.
However some players might not want how much time they spend in EVE to be public, they would want an Opt-In choice for displaying their name on a leader board.
CCP could simply list the top 10 scores without names - that would be a nice thing to do perhaps weekly, as a Scope news item on the website or in the Scope UI news ticker. |

People who want to be with Serpentis in this event have to find sites full of great loot and opportunity, then choose NOT to run them! That's literally the opposite of what most people want to do, and so of course only dedicated hunters will do that. Serpentis hasn't called for any support at all, and the description of the Vanquisher is ironic because Sarpati isn't giving us any toys to play with... his enemies are giving us his toys instead.
I've held on to some Research Components hoping for a time to use them Pro-Serpentis, but no opportunity presented itself. Now I'm sitting here wondering why Upwell/Scope have more Serpentis resources to hand out than Sarpati himself :/ |

Catering to the PVE'rs exclusively is easy; it doesn't entail a great deal of thought or effort to compile a bunch of PVE missions that favor only a certain play style. Maybe when the current leadership at CCP moves on (can't solely blame Devs for unimaginative management decisions) we might get lucky and someone a little more open minded with a creative mindset will get the job.

So predictable. Top rewards for top botters and account sharers.
And of course it seems like CCP designers didn't know their own players. According to statistics presented by CCP, nearly half of players have more than one account. So why do they build events based on character personal progresiion chart? It's simply didn't fit into EvE players playstyle. Did players have to repeat everything on each account?
Even event with providing citadels BPC were better designed. There were "top prizes". But items that represents "points" in that system and that you have to collect (data chips) were tradable. So everyone have the opportunity to have influence in the race towards "top prizes". Every single data chip counts, even collected by newbie.
Tl;DR: In EvE personal event progression charts suck

I ran around for about 2 hours running various event sites.
Killing rats in mining belts or using a T1 frigate was different and added interest. The larger sites needed a little more tank with the damps creating some interesting PVE but once a site had been run a few times all seemed very repetitive - Random spawns and/or a check off list for the sites completed may be better - So once done no need to do another of the same type until I have a quest with that type included.
With no actual loot (modules) drops the bounties are not really enough for me to devote too much time to them as I can get more running missions and use the ISk to buy whatever the end game prize is - also - the end goal seems way too far away for me to actually imagine I will get anything good - so do I need to bother?
It would have been better to have most kills or the last kill own the loot box (maybe create some hi-sec PVP) Having the loot box stolen by a kiting frigate on several occasions was very annoying, so much so that I had to resort to jumping into Hawk and using the same trick on another player just to find out what the box contained - it was some sort of capital chip thing.
Then i was asked to kill a drifter Battleship in a frigate so I gave up and ran a high sec Guristas Den.
The resulting expedition took me to a system 6 jumps away, I sneaked into a low sec system and ran the site with one eye on local. Spamming a 5AU D-Scan when anyone passed though the system. My rewards included a Pithi adaptive invulnerability drop - so - If I need any of the event loot I can afford to buy it |

The rewards structure needs work, and can easily be fixed while the event is in progress by adding loot containers or last-ship drops to more of the combat sites. They could have a 75% chance of being empty, and it would still create more interest in running sites than the far-future redeeming rewards system currently in place. That system should have been a BONUS for long-term participation in the event, not a replacement for random loot in previous events, which drives player engagement day by day, moment by moment, in every combat site. |

I really like the feature.
-dynamic PvE, some variance -the idea of loot containers -many different missions
However...
I found that these things spawn so often that it's easy to find an endless supply. You can manage to get 10 per hour which gives 1000 reward points. So the golden loot box requires ~50 hours of PvE grinding at least (hope it's worth it). Now, 50 hours of play time in 40 days are not that much, but still it's 50 hours of grinding.
Plus: It's shipyards all over! - there is too much killing Shipyards atm. 50.000 reward points break down into 500 Shipyard. I keep getting the same mission over and over again as does everyone else. Basically I don't see much of the sites except for shipyards. This mindless grinding will get boring very soon - and that despite the fact that there is a dozen of different event sites. You just don't get to do them. -synergy: since everyone does only Shipyards, the chances are very good that you warp into one and complete it after seconds, just because someone else already did the work. -> it's even more necessary to do Shipyards to get the points. -the missions with the guards: nice, but the bounty on the guards is SO high (3m in HS for killing 5 weak ships!) that shooting them is a no brainer on gates even if you don't have the mission. As a result, it's very hard to find guards if you need them.
-I really like the idea of DED missions that request something else than just killing the event sites.... but! 2000 reward points for killing 10 Drifters?!? Nice challenge, but I'll never try this. Would need research, completely different ships possibly a whole fleet and from what I hear they'll kill you anyway with a superweapon. And then I even need to repeat that 10 times in 3 days??? Complete waste, just blocks the slot. MAYBE I'd be inclined to take on a single drifter for 2000 points. Otherwise the ramp up and preparation time for this one greatly exceeds the point value. Then I got "find 5 DED sites". I really like scanning. I went to get my scanning ship (doing ~10 shipyards on the way). Then I tried scanning a few systems, but no DED site. I could have done lots of shipyards instead! And I don't want to do more! I am not sure whether I will have enough time for the shipyards so again... I can't afford to do this. Maybe 1 DED site for 500 reward points would be a nice challenge just to do something else.
Don't get me wrong. I know that the reward points come on top of the regular payout for any of the extra activities. But I am trying to maximize the reward points here, so unfortunately I just cannot do anything that is much worse than endless grinding of shipyards.
Could at least the shipyard mission change during the course of the event or with number of accumulated reward points?
And don't get me wrong, this is not a complaint! Great feature, thumbs up - please more of those events! |

I'm also liking these new events. I haven't ran enough to unlock a reward yet so i reserve my judgement for them until later.
The sites: I like the way everyone involved with a site gets the reward. Even if i am exploiting it by putting alts on grid and whoring on other peoples sites. It is still a good incentive to run the sites as a group so i feel the benefits outweigh the alt problem. I also like that the sites are un-gated, but i wish fleet mates could warp in without defaulting to the sites entrance.
What really disappointed me about the sites reward however was that it was not dropped by a rat and therefore had no 'owner'. The previous serpentis events sometimes lead to PvP because a competing player would go suspect trying to take the loot. On sisi i have had high grade implants drop in these new sites, so its sad to see i can just wait by the container in a tanky ship and spam the open cargo button whilst someone else puts in all the work. And i still get a reward for doing the site as well.
The other thing that disappointed me was the large amount of rats in the larger serpentis sites. I was hoping for beefier rats but smaller gangs (something like the roaming NPC gangs). This is particularly tedious when i get damped by eleven different ships. Not really a problem for running the site as i see you completely watered down their damp strength...But what would be so wrong with having a few damping cruisers with stronger E-war, but can be primaried by the players? This would be something groups of players can mitigate better than solo players.
Final criticism, no scrams? or webs? i can just kite all day?
I also noticed the new angel rats are quite a bit tougher than the serpentis rats. The angel frigates in particular have way more hp than the serpentis frigs and the angel cruisers have webs (which was refreshing). Is there a reason they are this much tougher?
The Guards: The roaming NPC's themselves are cool. Good bonus to accidentally come across and i was happy to see the angel battleship guard can actually haul ass. It out run my wasps (omg i need a web?)
Can they also get a loot drop? again, it lead to PvP with the sleepers.

Absolutely great work! Really makes me want to play more despite the grinding. No idea why, must be the mystery boxes. :-D
Some more suggestions: A special reward for the top 5 contributors is fine, but can we have an online highscore screen in the Scope Network? Just to see how good the best are and to increase competition.
Bonus: show the pilot names with the highscores for extra dynamics - or how CCP Rise puts it: to promote "funny situations (read: kills)"
Also, how about special sites that contain Acceleration gates that will flag everyone using them suspect? (only accessible with appropriate security settings ofc). Would add a litte (optional) PvP component.

First event I've done, and I like the feature, how is presented, the visibility...
Only some things that could be better:
- Maybe exploration like missions? Or an agent on space that points you to do something? - As Daichi Yamato said, no owner on the vault. You can kill yourself doing the site and then someone loots it, like it happened at first to me, or then you do the same, get into a tanky ship warp next to the box loot it and get out. Maybe make the container only unlockable by the person that most kills got or got the last kill? This so far has been a point that I think needs more thought for next events or maybe a quick fix for the remaining of the event?

Overall I like the direction this is going. The visibility it has to me were I log in and can decide to do something else besides Agents, mining, WH exploration or Complexes. I think it just needs to be adjusted a bit more. |

My thoughts on this event thus far:
I love the "go kill a Serpentis rat in a rookie ship" mission. That was fun. I actually fitted out a rookie ship for the first time in forever. Not sure I would be very excited about doing it repeatedly, but it was fun.
I also liked the kill five Serpentis ships in a Frigate. As a veteran who mostly flies bigger, more expensive ships, this was fun and fresh.
I appreciate the "go kill 10 drifters." That sounds like a fun challenge. Not sure I will have time or inclination to do it, but it's at least something new and different to me.
Same goes for the mining missions.
What I don't like: the timers. For the ones I don't want to do, or simply cannot do, waiting 48 hours for a better challenge is annoying. For the ones I have started, sometimes 48 hours is not enough time. I think that each time you do part of a challenge, the 48-hour clock should roll from that point. For example, one of my current missions is to find and run 10 DED sites in 48 hours. Perhaps if I lived somewhere else and had unlimited time to play Eve, I could complete this one. But out in Syndicate, there's a lot of competition for DED sites.
The offers should also evolve along what you are actually doing. For example, if I complete the mine 50000 Veldspar challenge, I should get another mining challenge. If I complete the DED site challenge, I should get a new offer in this vein. And so on, and so forth. The point of the new events was to give an extra incentive for people to keep doing what they are doing already, right?
I would also love to see a challenge for killing another player inside one of the sites. It would be even better if the rats did not aggress you unless you aggressed them. Then people could actually turn the sites into PVP beacons and fight for the Serpentis.
As far as the sites go in comparison to previous events, the Blood Raiders one remains the best. Why? Not just because of the rewards, but also because the NPC's were not much of a challenge. There were only a few rats and they did not seem to do much damage. The challenge came from other players looking to kill you. The number of rats in these sites is much higher and they seem to actually do some damage. That makes them less than ideal for getting into one-on-one or small gang fights.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

You don't get out much do you.. The only enjoyable thing about this event is - It will be over soon.
Sorry but the ease with which players don't actually do the sites but are still collecting rewards - Devs might want to come up with something else, or just remove events like this from highsec.
Devs outdid themselves catering for the thieves of New Eden with this event. Risk vs Reward is there alright - You risk losing your reward to some random who warps in and just takes it.
CCP as a business needs to take a step back and have a good look at what they are doing to a once great game.

I am very curious why you are putting so much effort into temporary events. In the past, you have added new missions or other new forms of PVE, without phasing them out (e.g. Epic Arc missions or Incursions). Why is it that Incursions, which seemed like they should be a temporary thing, have been persistent, while these are going the way of the dodo?
Also, I feel like I have been grinding these for days with relatively little to show for it. Nearly all my play time has been consumed by the quest for these sites and I'm not even at 10k yet.
Additionally, some of the timers seem really wonky. Sometimes I'll get a challenge to mine 100,000 veldspar in an hour. Is that even possible? I have no idea since I have only mined once in all my time in Eve. Other times the challenges seem to hang around for a very long time.

The main thing this event is missing is the chance for valuable loot in all the sites. The shipyards have it so are fine as is but the other sites are just a boring grind.
What should have happened is that the individual sites had a chance for a faction spawn at the end, similar to anomalies. They could even be the same Shadow Serpentis or Domination ones from anoms with the same type of loot. The size of the site would determine if it would be frigate, destroyer or cruiser.
Add to that a chance for the guard spawns to have a faction BS. Make it a tough bastard too!
Doing this would give potential instant rewards across the board and create possible pvp opportunities in high sec that the other events had and this one lacks.
Giving you Inconsistent grammar, speilling and Punct-uation since 1974!

I'm beginning to think this is fixed so that certain individuals reach the big target first.
Currently I have two toons running sites, I have reached the copper cask for both, now i have objectives for both toons to help complete serpentis mobilization sites, for my toon i have an objective for 5 and 10. Break their will (3 sites in over 3 days) and shatter their resolve. in three days I have found three sites and i must have jumped between 200 systems.
I also have Shatter the operation (1 site in 48 hours) and Break their will (1 site in 48 hours) for my other toon. So few serpentis mobilization that the timer has come up for both toons.
This means I am only currently earning points through grining keep up the pressure objectives.
Also when I am runni9ng these Keep up the pressure sites and i am first on site it waits until the very last rat is killed before i can loot the site.....whether or not someone else arrives at the site. However, when I arrive at a site with other pilots already the research can becomes lootable well in advance. I have seen up to 20 rats still alive and the other player has looted the can on MULTIPLE occasions, pretty much everytime someone else is already running the site.
Also was chatting to a guy that I was competing for a site and I got the can, he didnt even bother trying and was 50k away, I got 2 modified capital processors. I pm'd the guy to ask him why he didnt try fior the loot telling him abou the rare implant drops and he tells me he looted the can after I left and got double the processors I got, although for me whenever I loot after someone has popped a site (usually early) and never get anything.
So CCP - My Question is this. What are you playing at......Mittanni up to his old tricks again and have something in hand with the devs so that only his affoliates end up getting the Gold cans as everyone else has dodgy spawns. I am not happy with how these mechanics are working out. IMO after playing this Shadow of the Serpentis since release that it is FIXED FIXED FIXED.
How very disappointing! |

When one plays in a sandbox the King would know to build a castle with the sand. The Peasant would only know that the sand gets in his slit.
There should be Opportunity Sites available that would have a reduced security classification that would allow PVP as well as PVE.
When such a site is encountered in High Sec (Green Space) or Med Sec (Yellow Space) the security for an encounter would be a the same for a .4 to .2 system with reduction in security status being the same for an actual .4 to .2 system. For Low Sec (Red) systems an encounter site would be considered 0.0 without any security status loss at all.
Justification for the pockets of reduced security would be a result of the Drifters and Sleepers breaching High, Medium and Low security and creating a bubble around the site that reduces the ability of Concord to monitor what is taking place within the bubble.

Hello CCP,
First, thank you for an event that the everyday player can participate in without being bullied out by either big corporations or players that know mechanics better than you do. I was excited to dive in and did not mind so much the grind of it.
(For all the folks just dying to tear this post apart as "too carebear", it is only one persons opinion and is not meant to insult anyone with a different viewpoint or style of play. Please keep that in mind before getting too angry and posting something personally insulting)
That said, for the next event, can you please make "the grind" worth it? To put it simply, for that much time, I could have done better (that is, earned slightly more isk) mining veldspar. I don't have the time to devote to earn the 25,000 points and when I opened the 10,000 point can, I felt like a sucker. A skill accelerator (+10 to all attributes) that lasts for 16 hours, a skin, and 2 items of clothing. It's OK, really don't like to complain about it but, for the amount of time it took, it just was not worth the effort. My suggestion, in order to make this attractive, the rewards need to be at least two or three times what you can do L4 missioning (and if I really had my choice, it would be 10X) otherwise, it just isn't something that is worth the time. Oh, and if you do that, don't change anything else like oh, I don't know....the spawn rate.....or bounties......or anything else because it was difficult enough to find sites before the 20 man fleet got there to roll the site and steal the loot and bounties before you could get your slow as$ battleship to the can. Thanks for taking the time to read. |

Remove the first 2 sentences from your post, take out the "don't really like to complain but" and you sum the event up pretty well. It was / is for the most part, a low value, tedious grind.
Even the overall "prize" (blueprints) are a low rent handout for effort - They will be available in LP stores after the event, which negates any real value as a "prize" for the effort required to get one. Anyone running missions to gain LP for one of them won't need to put in half the effort the top scorers in this "event" have.
Like much of the new Eve game play design - Event Devs have lost sight of the fundamental nature of Eve - Risk vs Reward. No risk, fixed value, limited, overly time consuming, rewards and a grind that makes building highway one with a pick and shovel seem easy.
My opinions are mine.
If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - -
Just don't bother Hating - I don't care
It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

Nope, didn't find it anything but civil, and thank you for that!!! And, I can't argue with your post either; but, I did want to at least acknowledge the effort put forth by the company rather than simply not doing anything at all. For me at least it was fun right up until I opened the reward can. Thank you again. |

Question to the devs: the Ouroboros boosters state an expiry date of 2016.08.19 00:00:00. While I assume that any unused boosters will become inert (or outright vanish) at that time, what happens to time remaining on active/already consumed Ouroboros boosters at that time? I.e. if I consume a Gold booster at 2016.08.18 23:00:00, will I still get 10 days of accelerated training (given Biology V), or will I only get 1 hour?

The answer is in the Attributes of the Boosters - Expiry Date 2016.08.19 00.00.00 - The same as previously with the Blood Raiders event, when the times up, they stop working.

After 5 days of waiting for a GM reply, I can now certify that on 2016.08.19 00:00:00, the Ouroboros accelerators will cease to exist, whether consumed or not. So if consumed on 2016.08.18 23:00:00, any Ouroboros accelerator will only net 1 hour of accelerated training.
So Sgt. Ocker was right. I was unsubscribed during the Blood Raiders event, so I had no reference frame against which to verify the veracity of his statement.
