...as it is not clearly stated here: http://www.eve-online.com/alliances/
Come on, could we see this page updated more often than 3 times a year please? For us who are interested in EVE Politics, this page is a good start to get an idea of the alliances relative strength (in numbers at least).
By the way, as a software engineer, I can assure you that in a day or so, a decent developer should be able to write a small program that would recreate this page automatically during downtime, from the Tranquility database.
Thank you very much, Ambre.

That page used to be quite interesting, but then for reasons best known to themselves, CCP decided not to bother updating it any more. Sigh.

it would be nice if the page was dynamic based off the game rather than requiring a person to maintain it.

Edited by: Trilliam Blackthorn on 27/02/2007 14:58:18 As a whole....the entire website is woefully out of date (when was the last time the player guide/items database was updated?)....with the exception of course to the front page getting virtually insta-linked to any review that is remotely positive that is posted anywhere on the web, of course.
This game is in dire need of a proactive web/documentation team.

Next you'll be telling me they're just "Pining for the fjords". Lets face it, if they hadn't been nailed to the perch, they'd be pushing up daisies- they're an ex alliance, mate!

So, integration testing, release handling, system testing, non-functional testing, deployment and documentation etc is not a factor to take into consideration? Maybe the database doesn't have a suitable API for accessing the data, should the webapp interact with the data layer directly (normally a bad idea)? Or should an API be built/the existing one be adapted? Maybe allowing access for the webapp to the Tranquility production data is a security risk?
I'm sorry, but I just get ticked off when people who are "software engineers/system developers/mumbojumbo architects/insert random cool-sounding it-position" try to make it sound like developing serious software is a doodle based on that their nice little php-site they built as a school project only took 3 days to build.

The Tranquility database is MS SQL server. A static dump of the new items and skills is available for download. Other sites have already updated their item databases, just not the 'official' site. Alliance and corp data is naturally more dynamic, but it's hard to believe that you couldn't pull the data once or twice a month during downtime.

Corporate killboards are more up to date.
If you take a look at the DB dump, all alliance data is in a single table, possibly two.
Dump those tables once a day to the web farm DB. Write a single ASP page to pull the alliance data.
It's not rocket science.
