Its handy that one ship can tank a whole room of NPC's but when all that attention becomes to much for one ship to handle, there needs to be a way for other players to taunt or pull agro away from another player.
One thing that might help is to make AI a bit smarter and have them in wings/squads like players.
We already see them in groups, so make them more aware of there groups, so lets say 3 groups of ships are attacking player 1, player one is attacking 1 ship from group 1, player 2 then comes and attacks a ship from group 2, since group 2 isnt being attacked by player one, it sees player 2 as a bigger threat, so group 2 turns to attack player 2 etc etc. if players way to keep agro, on the one player only , then they need to concentrate fire on the same group that player 1 is.
This would add some strategy to NPC fights, and also make the new lvl5 missions manageable in a group of BS's cause right now if a lvl5 needs a carrier tanker that levaes alot of people unable to access these missions.
SO to sum up, AI needs to be a bit smarter and there needs to be NPC squads and wings (which also need to be marked, EG: Serpentis Squad 1 etc ).

while there isent a way to transfer agro deliberateley you can just ECM the rats, then they retarget randomley.
Failing that just use remote repper arrays / drones on your gangmates.
k... err.. i just gave the same advice in two different threads in the space of five minutes, are mission / plex spawns the whine of the week? -

I made this change to the game Yesterday.
You can now taunt NPCs by typing 'n00b!', 'lol!', etc in local.
Unfortunately, we also made the NPC AI smarter. They focus fire on one target like any moron would, and ignore smacktalk like lean killing machines.
Enjoy EVE-Online!

I find target painting NPCs does a pretty good job of getting them to switch agro. I haven't tried it since Revelations but it certain did the job before.

I'm having a hard time equating "smarter rat AI" with "switching aggro away from a player the rats are just about to kill".

yea, for once I find myself referencing the PVP players of the game, they donĘt change targets when there target is about to die, so what makes you expect the NPC rats to?
If they upgraded the AI they would change targets after shooting the same guy for so long to shoot the weaker ship that usually follows the tank in.

If the mission rats were any smarter they'd give up missions and move to 0.0, and where would we be then? --------------------

When they remake missions perhaps they link rats in small groups where the rats could work together on a single target and every 3 minutes check for other targets and either spread evenly or go for weakest targets or a mix...
The good thing is that it'll be a bit harder perhaps to pirate people in belts, complexes and missions if the pirate had entered between the rats and the victim and the rats swarmed into the closer target
I have faith in the new missions and AI - 10 isk I'm getting dissapointed though...

This isn't WoW. There is no sort of agro system built into EVE and it would completely destroy several aspects. Drones in general would be shot, my drones don't have near the health to tank a bs for even 20 seconds and they are my prime dps. Also what about frigates and stuff like that? It isn't like wow where healing is instant. I think it is fine like it is. EVE is a lot slower of a game in some aspects and especially tanking complexes, you can't keep agro on 100 ships at once. Lastly if there was agro everyone would have to be in BC+ just to survive that random BS breaking off and shooting or elite frig.

If NPCs were smarter you would always get full room agro, they would also try to kill your drones first, forget about bringing along a logistic ship or a small ship to blow up frigates, they all go down first too.

YES! Let's make NPC's so smart that there's no more need for real people! That way we can remove PVP all together!

I would be surprised if the NPC's ever came close to the PC's when it comes to loosing ships and smacking after.. I could like NPC's shouting LAAAAG! or "CCP KILLED MY GRANDMA" or something as creative=)

Well yes you can aggro them on your own, but I do agree that they should take some initiative and be smarter about it by themselves.

You know if you fight players, you find they have this problem too. Instead of fighting your tank, they usually go for weaker ships, and all gang up on them until that ship can't handle it! It's very unfair.
