Just 2 questions, 1)Is it possible to get them alone after the patch(I haven't found lone pirates of ANY type since the patch). 2)What do you need to take a typical spawn on safely? I REALLY don't want to risk loosing my shiny new vexor so any tips would be great.
BTW do the new anti warp scramblers mean you can escape from almost any bad situation now without getting trapped? Thanks!!

You can take out pirate cruisers by yourself.
And I don't use warp scramblers, I prefer to just blow people up. I don't play with my food. _____ m0o

Not sure about your area. But I have taken out many Gurista Terrorists (Blackbird) cruisers with my merlin. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Pirate cruisers are not that hard right now. In the Cloud region I take out 5-6 at a time. 4-5 Sentinel Chiefs (Exeq. cruiser.) and a Drug Baron (Celestis cruiser).
I think the protectors and soldiers in their tristans are more dangerous :)

Right now Serpetis Soldiers in their Tristans are very dangerous--moreso than the pirates in cruisers just because they are very fast.
If you have some 250mm railguns and heavy missiles and keep your distance, you'll be just fine. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

you kidding? you can kill 6 drug barons or the vexors ones at a time if you kite them at about 16km
When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear. -jack handy |

The cruisers are ATM a joke. One of our Exes can kill 4 npc exes easily - the highlevelfrigs are more of a danger.
A nice example about the "danger" of the cruisers: I was dashmining with a probe, 3 celestis warped in. I rechted only slowly and they jammed me. So..The cruisers were 16 km away. I hit the drives of the probe and simply run in the opposite direction until the jamming weared off.
The current cruisers are a JOKE.

The only pirate crusiers that are any challeng are the angel cartel ones. They use heavy missiles and lots of them. If you don't have speed or defenders you are screwed.

Yeah, a joke...until you warp out of the belt, and someone else warps in and they are 2k from the entry point. A cruiser can figure out a way to survive, but a merlin or punisher are toast at that range (even well equiped) within 2-6 seconds.
I wonder if this could be used as a tactic, if you were being followed/hunted...=) Ensign hyden(Mining & Transport) - Logistics Division - Hadean Drive Yards

With my rifter I can take out combination of 5 - 6 ships, being made of i.e. (angel) depredator, 4 hunters, impaler. Actually depredators are easier than impalers (10k bounty high-level frigate pirates)
The only thing that are need: reasonable setup, some skills, tactics and patience.

Angel cruisers aren't that bad. I've taken out 3 of the 50k bounty ones at the same time within 10 km range and didn't fall below 50% shields. Then again, I've got quite a nice Moa. :) ___________________________________________

Booky are you saying you can find that cruiser on its own (presumably in Caldari space) without an escort?
Would you mind telling me where and what loadout your Merlin has?
Thanks

Well, I know some peeps who have cleared 0.0 belts using 2 Kestrels. Takes a bit of time. But you make more isk from bounties then those little ships are worth. A merlin will not stand a chance. Its better to go wtih a little missile boat with 3 launchers with havocs and one with defenders. Your capac and pwr goes to small sheild boosters.
This is only if you don't have a crusier. I plan to stick with my MOA. But it is possible in a kestrel since missiles let you keep a bit of range.

I did take out 4 ravishers (30k)and 1 jugger(50k) last night solo in my maller, and i didnt even get any armor damige. But if the jugg hits u with a missile they do aboute 400-700 in dam so u have to have a smartbomb or anty missiles to defend ur self from that. I have a small smartbomb and a mwd for defence, the only thing ul have to do in this situason is to keap them at 21-25k range becous they dont shoot at u in that range with turets, and a ravisher dam with turet is 20-70 dam and jugg is 70-170 dam. All u have to do to hunt hard pirets is to practise a little and find out there weeknes, and a key factor is to find a emty belt to start in a good range from the piretspawn (40-50k) and aproge from there.
Exquse my bad english :)

"A merlin will not stand a chance. Its better to go wtih a little missile boat with 3 launchers"
gonna cost a forutne to fund all them missles. i seem to do very well in my merlin.... 8/10/20 k piarates no troubles... (yet to find 30k or 50k)
get some long rain guns (150mm rails in my case 14km optimum range) and keep your distance....
heres a tip for the newbies..... when you warp to a roid belt you normaly see a group of pirates..not really doing anything....
target ONE of them only. fire off a single shot or two and this targeted pirate will break formation with the other pirates and start to chase you. (only works when pirates are like 25k or so away....if you warp in and there only 5-10 km away there gonna come after u if you shoot or not)
set keep distance to target. what happs now is you fly away from the pack of pirates dragging this sole pirate with you. when you get a safe distance from the pack of pirates (30 plus KM) you can shorten the range to the sole targetted pirate and get on with it without fear of the other pirates getting invovled.
but you gotta keep on your toes..... i normaly set distance to around 6 or 7 km. then just let rip......
what sometimes happens if your not paying attention is that the pirate will turn around and head back to the pack of pirates. if you not paying attention and are still set to keep target at 6-7km, then just as you thinking this senital is dead meat you relise all his mates are only 5 or 6 km away. now your in big mucho trouble.
doing this also mean you can kill and harvest cargo without worring about others. if you still got cargo space head back to pack and pick another pirate.
the ONLY ONLY time i have lost a ship, was when i warped in to close....faffed about looking at a cargo pod.....and next thing i know 5 pirates all around 2-3 km away. warp scrambled...... missles on tail... CAP netralised (each time i fire lose 33% of cap) shields failing hull damaged... kids crying missis *****ing smokes run out... cola flat....
dont smoke me a kipper dont think ill be back for breakfast well at least they dont pod you.

Taking out 5-7 ships at a time with a merlin, including up to 2 depredators. Marauders are more of a trouble since they pack some nasty long range turrets plus missiles. Oh and implailers are definitely tougher than depredators, if just two of them can get within 10km range, they will chew up any frigate in no time. + 4 can be dangerous even to cruisers if you dont have good afterburners or MWD.

Head to the fringe. Most 0.0 systems have the heavy hitters, especially deadend systems. Make sure u r over 300m/s and have a shield booster.

Took out 7 Blood Arch engravers last night(30k each)in My Black Bird 1x250mm carbide rail and 1x250mm regular rail, and i have to agree with you guys the Missile crazy frigates are more of a threat, the Engraver is an ammar frigate and i just sit out at 26km and it lands like 15.5 damage on me while i dish out 70 damage or more each shot, if i leave my sheilds and dont use my medium shild boost, then i can kill 3-4 engravers before my shild is at 0!
Cruisers are easy! LOOK OUT FOR THE FRIGATES!

i think 2 things need to be done - more pirate cruisers , befor patch they were everywhere now i have to keep my hunt spot a secret = (. second, just buff them up a tad, stronger turrets, and if the ship doesnt have launchers, i BETTER not see missles coming from the ship, if they can do it why cant i?

Heh, go try an Angel Liquidator, Maka =P
The Depreds are insanely easy, 7 damage at 5km, sheesh =P
The Liquidators are a challenge though, consistent 60+ damage hits not to mention Heavy EM Missiles that hurt like nothing else.

load up a moa... 3x dual 425's... scouts offcourse :P fit a hudroalics or 4... and go straight into 4 chief defenders... dont worry about shield booster, u want go dry... no need to target, just set ur option to autotarget back... when u have the target, hit F1.. F2.. F3..... and the first cruiser is down after 8-12 seconds... on to next.. sometimes tho, they shoot 2 missiles each, and they do 140 dmg a peice, so just hit the MWD twice, and around u go :P

Put 2 SB's( one Plasma , one EMP both small) on your ship and no missles will touch you , ben fighting 30k-45k pirates alone in Omen doing just fine, of course if you keep range, all my guns can do enough damamge at 20km, 2 of them even at 32km and for your antimissles actions.

Wow This is a old thread.
My merlin has 2 150mm Prototype railguns and 2 M-12 Launchers. No Problem with the two low level cruisers from each race, but the heavy and battle cruisers tend to shoot from longer range and seem to give me trouble. I know for a fact I can't kill a carcel with my merlin alone, but not sure about other race ships since I don't fight them much. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Check out the 0.0sec lvl border regions like STAIN. But don't go in there if you don't have a cruiser with decent equipment. I have a stabber equiped with 2 heavy beam lasers and Multi M cristals + heavy missile launcher. All basic skills (Hull, shield, armour, speed, ...) are at least at level 3. Have a smart bomb on board. Medium shield booster and microwarp drive. Medium armour repair in cargo when travelling. I sometimes have difficulties against 2 pirates if I jump in too close. Keep at min 20 km range. Most of the time I don't look at what I kill but these are nu pussies. In the asteroids belts I check you can dig some nice ore like Crokite. So I have to kill these pirates with 2 heavy beam lasers and 2 mining lasers mounted :p.
