With the cycle time on captial remote rep mods of 5sec the duration bonus is not only next to useless, considering the crappy cap amount of the ship its more close to a "drain your cap even faster" "bonus" then anything.
On top of that the ship cant fit any decent tank without the use of expensive faction mods (only 5 slots either in low or med for it because of the nearly mandatory sensor booster) and even then the tank is inferior to any other carrier with normal t2 mods.
I think it is a real shame the ship is so much worse then the other carriers as it is such a good looking ship.
What this ship needs first of all is a useful bonus.
My suggestions is:
10% less cap use for capital remote repair/shield systems
It keeps the general theme of the ship as a specialised frontline healing vessel.
Another good idea is 10% fighter tracking per level.
Secondly the ship needs something to bring it more in line with the other carriers tank or cap wise. I have not much hope for a change of the slot layout, so that leaves cap.
There is no reason at all why the Nid should have the lowest cap amount of all carriers. While it makes sense for minmatar turret ships to have less total cap then e.g. a blaster boat it doesnt for a carrier.
I suggest upping the total cap amount to a number between that of a thanatos and an archon to compensate for the worse tanking possibilities due to the slot layout (increase recharge time accordingly ofc).

train another race's BB to 5, and get yourself a good capital ship. Unless you have RP reasons/inclanations or you like the modle, there is simply no reason to use them.
But then again, I like the model, and I think I will be training for one. . . Its a waste of isk though.

And that is exactly whats wrong. Thats how it is now and it just soooo wrong.
The Nid should be a viable alternative to the other carriers. Not a copy of one of the others, but something with a different and unique role while being worth using.
And that is why it need to be buffed. I mean cmon how hard can it be to change a couple numbers in the database?

Thankyou for that constructive addition to this thread!!
My alt can fly this carrier on Sunday and i'm going to order it from my alliance Today (to give me time to up a few of the skills as it will take 2 weeks to build).
I am aware that it's probably the worst carrier but i think it is definetley the best looking and i am going to fly one anwyay.
I would be Nice if CCP would realise just how bad it realy is and either move the exess mid to a low or do something suggest above just to bring it in-line with the other carriers.

Change the remote repper bonus to fighter max velocity bonus - and let that bonus carry on when the fighters are delagated.
Speed is a minmatar trait, so faster fighters seems to make sense. --------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be very hard to find a unique role for it, the problem is that the minmatar racial traits of speed and small size in exchange for lower hp and cap-less weapons in exchange for lower capacitor don't scale well to capital ships, and carriers in particularly.
Higher speed and agility do not pose any kind of advantage to a capital ship, and yet lower hp total is indeed a huge disadvantage. Similarly, carriers don't use guns, they are all effectively drone ships, and as such, they don't use any cap. In this situation minmatar advantages on low cap usage are completely negated, and yet, they still get hurt on the capacitor department.
Finding a proper and original bonus for it would prove very hard, there's a limited number of uses for a carrier, and not all of them are bonus friendly. One possible way out is keeping with race simetry and give it the same bonus as the Thanatos. This wouldn't be very out of scope, given that minmatar ships usually get the biggest drone bays out of gallente land, plus, it would give us a somewhat nice cycle, with the amarrian and caldari carriers based on defense, and the gallente and minmatar ones based on offence.
First problem with this bonus is that it turns the nidhoggur into what would essentially be a toned down thanatos, further changes would need to be made. One of such possible changes is increasing the total HP of the ship or at least biasing its hp distribution towards shields, to compensate for the fact that its high speed and low signature relative to other carriers poses no real advantage. In a similar way, I think the capacitor should be improved, being as it is that there's no real reason it should have less than the other ones, except for RP coherence. --- Thouched by His Noodly Appendage |

Edited by: Amy Wang on 15/02/2007 19:18:20 A role for the minni carrier doesnt necessarily mean something speed related. The role can very well be that of a frontline healer kind of ship (better at remote repping but weakest tank of all carriers together with the thanatos).
But for this role the bonus needs to be changed to make a positive difference.
On the other hand I dont see the real point of a fighter speed bonus, either your fighters are delegated and should be brought close to the target anyway or your carriers warps/jumps in on top of the enemy and again the fighters dont need to travel much. If your fighters have to travel big distances where a speed bonus would make a difference you are doing something wrong, tbh I would consider such a bonus as useless as the current one if not more so please dont give ccp this idea :P

Fighter tracking please - effectively a damage bonus when attacking BC's and down, and a nice contrast to the thanatos: the thanny uses its fighters on BS and capitals and hurts them hardest of all the carriers, but typically switches down to smaller drones to hurt smaller ships. The nid can say melt cruisers and up with its fighters, but is inferior to the thanatos when taking on a BS only gang or dropping onto capitals. Both would be fairly effective on a typical mixed BS/support gang. It also makes a nice offensive theme between them, with the wyvern and archon defensive. Oh, and the Hel would then be a) as pretty as the Nyx and b) as much of a solo-pwnmobile. Yes please.
