So I was camping Jita last night and shot a yellow ship with flashing yellow skull, according to overview settings it clearly states that this is a suspect timer and the target can be shot by anyone anywhere....
I got criminally flagged and popped.
Soooo..... it isn't a suspect timer? Whats with all the flashing yellow skulls NOT getting shot? Is this some weird troll mechanic? |

no, you were not flagged as criminal hence you were not concordokkened, you died through sentries.
unlike concord, sentries attack when you lose sec. status, how you managed that idk.

Thanks for your reply Nat.
All I did was shoot a frig with flashing yellow skull. My friend who was with me at the time can confirm, he was remote boosting me with sebo's and he just told me concordokker is on his death mail... but I can confirm concord wasn't on mine, that was just because sentries got me before concord could.
So in short we were infact concordokkerend for shooting a flashing yellow skull. |

Where did you attack him? I'm assuming it was in high sec? Perhaps on a gate?

It was on Jita main trade station
Concord was involved
Three accounts confirmed he was flashing yellow skull (suspect, can be shot anywhere form what it says in-game) |

I noticed your other thread about lag and Jita is laggy even if you have a good ping, it is possible his suspect status ended and you shot him within a tick or two of it ending. It may also be possible you locked the wrong player and engaged. Either way, your safety must not have been set to green. You should never change it to red unless you are suicide ganking. If your safety was set to green, petiton it, you shouldn't have been able to engage in a criminal act if it was.
It may also be possible you messed with your overview settings and inadvertently changed something so that it shows people who are not necessarily suspect as yellow flashy. But based on you saying others also saw him as flashy I don't think this is the case.
The reason they are sitting on the undock flashy is that they have logi either already on grid or sitting in the station waiting for someone to engage. You should be able to shoot them but just keep in mind it's not only the flashy you will be fighting.

You probably had eyes on him with an alt that saw him as an engageable target in that security system. Maybe he jumped into a lower sec status and was no longer criminal there. Either way, check your settings. I don't think criminals flash by default, adding another chance of something being wrong on your side.

The reason they are sitting on the undock flashy is that they are trying to bait the uneducated into a fight and have logi either already on grid, just off grid or sitting in the station waiting for someone to engage. You can shoot them but just keep in mind it's not only the flashy you will be fighting.
yeh we concluded that it may have just been laggy + bad timimng. I also suspect something is up with my overview and will check it properly soon. |

This is a pretty popular article.
Just to reiterate, your safety should not have been on red.

This is a situation where putting your safety to yellow would be the best course of action. It would allow you to still engage people but it will prohibit you from doing anything that would result in you getting concorded.

There is no reason to have your safety on yellow unless you are planning on doing something that will make you suspect just as there is no reason to have your safety on red unless you are going to do something criminal. This is especially true if you are new and don't have a full understanding of how the mechanics work.

+1
As Loyd said, even with safety set to green, you can engage legitimate (i.e. flashy) targets in highsec.
I, too, have noticed that some of the advice offered recently by other ISDs in NCQ&A has been in this mould. It would be helpful (particularly to new players) if the advice offered by ISDs were consistently accurate - I imagine that people, particularly as brand new players, would be much more inclined to take the advice of someone obviously connected with the game company over that offered by other players.
Not ISD bashing, just pointing out that we are all human and mistakes do indeed occur.

I'm going to take a punt and say their Suspect timer ran out just as you engaged. it's been known to happen.

not so, you can smartbomb in lowsec (fly a pod around Tama or Rancer and you'll find out what I mean), and even in HiSec.
