Edited by: Tanga Willows on 01/02/2007 20:18:15 So I am minding my own business running level 1 missions in Kakki / The Citadel when I noticed a bunch of oddly named characters (i.e. kdhakhd, dlkhhauf, etc). I subsequently found them at Kakki III Ice Field I.
5 mining barges and a hauler, mining ice into cans. I couldn't resist to approach their can, launch my own can, and drag their White Glazes into my can.
They did nothing. I managed to grab 28 glazes before downtime, and today when I checked they were at it again. They are now only dropping a can when their hauler is approaching (maybe not macroers after all? or semi macroers?), but I still got to grab a dozen glazes. No relaliation at all.
Is there any way to make them legal targets, somehow through the use of gangs maybe? Overall the loss of a bunch of glaze didn't phase them at all, and sort of demonstrates the futility of player intervention in such ops in hisec. :(

I believe that if you target the mm when npc rats attack him, his drones will attack you after they finish off the last rat, giving you the green light.

It's 0.7 sec space, I think Concord will tear me apart before his drones even finish with the NPC rats, no?
I am all up for suicide gank, though clearly a gang is needed, alone I wouldn't even have enough dmg to take out one barge before Concord gets me.

Edited by: Alumion on 01/02/2007 21:00:41 No, he said that when the drones are shooting NPCs you target the barge but don't shoot, hopefully the macro will mistook you for another NPC and send the drones at you, at which point you'll be free to shoot the barge (but CONCORD will do it for you anyway) ---

CONCORD will not punish you for merely targeting them. If they have autoretarget on, they will target you back. You will see them target you if they target you back. When their drones switch to their next target (you) and attack you, they will start blinking. Then you are clear to attack.
Just to make absolutely sure you can get their drones on you, once they have targeted you, steal from their can. That will flag you to them, and may prompt their automated drones to come after you after finishing their present target. -7san |

One trick someone suggested (tho I've never had the opportunity to try it out) is to use remote reppers on the NPC rats, keep em alive long enough to kill the macro's drones and then hopefully the macro itself.
This might work best with several people, one or two repping the rats, the others bumping the macro so it can't align for a warp out.
Biggest problem I see would be if the rats lock onto you after they finish with the macro drones (depending on if they lock onto the drones or the macro of course) *** Confidence keeps you alive...cockiness will get you podded *** |

Train one or two levels of your racial indy ship, then help the nice folks haul =) The investment pays itself back in no time at all if you find a good target, and the ISK/hour can get pretty nice - 7mil/hour ish with ice?

I thought a station would shoot at me if I try to dock with an aggression counter toward another player? Or did you mean haul into my own can away from their operation and pick it up later sometime with a larger ship? That White Glaze is 1000m3 each and sells for 50k to 80k each afaik.

you can solo gank a retreiver and a covetor quite easy..
i use caracal cruiser, 5 heavy launchers ken ammo for the bonus, and then a couple of drones too, the lower the sec the better as the response from concord is slower

Put a noob alt in your corp and flip their cans in a shuttle. Sit there in your recon cloaked til they steal back. If they don't flag, call in ye olde hauler for the free ore.
Experienced farmers will not fall for this, but you will get new ones, and legit miners if you choose to harass them as well.

Like some others have said, wait until the drones are busy fighting NPC's. Then steal from the miners can while the drones are still fighting, and it "should" cause the drones to attack you since you are now flagged to the miner.
I haven't tested it, but in theory it should work.

I'm going to try this out tonight and i'll report back. If it works, it's macro hunting time... know of a few busy high sec systems where they run rampant.

Good Thread...i'd be real interested to see if any of the strategies discussed here work...have come across some interestingly named characters in my home systems (lots of random letter and numbers) and they are probably macro miners. If they are and there is a *Concord Proof* way of popping 'em i'd be real interested...and i'm sure my corp would be grateful for the ore!

Sorry, it's just a theory. Drones react only on actual combat aggression. You have to engage explicitly.

watch the local for names like ffghzyr, ergsddgr etc
they usually like systems with many belts like Otelen, Kaaputenen, Tash-Murkon I've also discovered that some of them are not macro, but china miners, who do not speak English. But anyway they farm for real money, so I kill them.
The tactic I use: warp into safespot and cover as many belts as possible with the scanner. Scan for farmers (if u find 4-5 you are likely to kill someone) Quickly swap cans, bookmark and name cans like "1", "2", "3"... so they are on top of your scanner. Warp back to spot and wait. If you see new containers, warp there and swap again.
Once one of your containers dissapear warp to its bookmark and kill.

I'm up for making a trip there and ganking them, I can prolly take out 2 at a time before concord gets me and then if they are still there I will refit and repeat for the rest of them. i'll be down there in a little while to see if they are still there.

Get a bigish ship and keep bumping them away from the roids till they arent in range any more :P That will stop em mining untill someone comes to move them back into range

Edited by: R34PER on 02/02/2007 18:13:20 Edited by: R34PER on 02/02/2007 18:12:35 I am there with my pal at the moment, they are happily macro mining away while we do whatever we can to annoy them. Bastards have even timed they macroes just correct that their Iteron V just warps in when the can drops, while i warp from 130k km away from a moon with align and full speed, and i come there second? They switched to that because we started stealing from their cans. Then i equipped my badger with 4 sensor boosters and tractor, they put tractors on their iterons and there they go again and nothing i can do about it. I reported to GM about this but nothing has happened so far..

Edited by: Quilan Ziller on 03/02/2007 03:30:37 Here is an aggroing method that did work for me a few times.
Buy a cheap hauler. Scan entire system for macroers. Come to each and every macro can, take what you can, and transfer the rest to a new jet can that belongs to you. As the macros continue mining, steal what they mine. Rinse and repeat.
More likely than not after about 20-30 minutes of such obnoxious behavior macros will try to retaliate. In the best case they might try to drone you with one of their Covetors of Mackinaws. In the worst case they will flip your cans back with a poorly fitted cruiser or battleship. The key for making them shoot you is to look... defenceless.
As soon as they shoot you, you can shoot them for 15 minutes.
If they try to shoot you, dock, get into your combat ship, and kill, kill, kill!
If they don't aggro, you will be left with a huge pile of ore. Which is somewhat profitable even in high sec (with current high prices for low end minerals).
