Hello all,
I've recently come back to Eve after a very long absence... This time round, I've been doing a lot of PvE (previously I did mining), and so I'm having to learn about standings for the first time. I've been reading all the forum posts and Wiki entries I can find, but I'm still a little fuzzy on some of the details - this is what I understand to be the case - is this right?!
(1) You can use Agent, Corporation or Faction standing to get quests from a given agent.
(2) If your *Faction* standing is below -2.0, then all agents above Level 1 are locked, regardless of your Agent and Corporation standings
(3) Doing a regular mission affects your standing with the Agent and their Corporation, but has no bearing on any Faction standing *unless* the mission involved destroying ships belonging to a given faction's navy. If this is the case, you lose standing with that faction (but not its member corps) proportional to the value of the ships destroyed. So for example, if I do a Caldari mission that involves destroying Gallente ships, I'd lose Gallente faction standing, but not standing with individual Gallente corporations or agents.
(4) Every sixteen missions at a particular level triggers a "Storyline" mission which *will* have a bearing on Faction standing, with derived impacts on all other factions, relative to their standing with the faction that offered the mission (e.g., if it's a Gallente storyline mission, you would also gain Minmatar standing, and lose Amarr and Caldari standing).
My main issue is that my Corp operates predominantly in Caldari space, but I've cultivated quite high standing with Impetus (Gallente) and Brutor Tribe (Minmatar) in order to access their epic arcs - I want to be able to help my corp-mates with their Caldari missions, but I need to be sure that, e.g., losing Gallente faction standing won't cost me Gallente corporation standing (with the #2 proviso above). |

No, you won't lose standings with Impetus and Brutor Tribe.
As far as helping, it depends on how you help. If you just assist with killing, then you'll just lose standings with the various pirate NPCs. If your corpies share the mission rewards with you, then you may just gain standings with whichever Caldari corp they're doing missions for. If you help with the "important" missions, then yeah you'll likely gain Caldari and Amarr, and lose Gallente and Minmatar.
Incidentally, rule 1 is "The biggest standing applies, as far as agent vs. corp vs faction." Your Impetus will stay at 8 or w/e, and it doesn't matter what your Gallente number does, as long as it's above -2. Train the Diplomacy skill. |

Thanks - that's a relief :)
So really it's just a case of managing Faction standings so they all stay at -1.9 or higher, and making sure that you have the right Corp standing to do the missions you want to do.
It just seems that a lot of my corp mates missions involve blowing up Gallente and/or Minmatar ships(!)
I have Dipl/Conn to III and Social to IV at the moment, but I will definitely be bumping those up some more. |

The only way that I am aware of that you can make corp standing go down is to shoot the transport ships that they sometimes having going from one station to another. I would guess that shooting at one of their stations would also reduce your standing with them however I've never tried it, it is only a guess.
When you refuse two missions from the same agent within 4 hours you loose standing with that agent. I am unsure if you loose standing with his corp or not in that situation.
My main point is that you pretty much have to try to be losing corp standing to lose some. Faction standing is a bit easier to loose without being aware that you are doing so. |

Do note that you can make NPC Player Corp standings go down by killing players in that NPC corp. Even if they are legit kills.
ALSO - getting an individual agent standing below neg 2.0 is a total PITA. There is absolutely no way to fix it by yourself as the agent simply refuses to talk to you regardless of your other standings. You have to do funky stuff like fleet up with an alt or player that can still get missions from the agent. |

Thanks all :)
I don't PvP, so I think I'm safe on that last front. I think I'm just going to have to get my Corp standing up, and just be very careful about balancing all my Faction standings up -2.0 |
