All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.
If fire doesn't solve your problem, you're not using enough.

"Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, whereby those important events of the past, usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. ... and the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. Where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives.
So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot." - V ("Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to ..." Trump?)
"Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?" "Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof." - V
... and finally:
"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. GÇ£Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted GÇô and you create a nation of law-breakers GÇô and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.GÇ¥

Quote:The humans, I think, knew they were doomed. But where another race would surrender to despair, the humans fought back with even greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for every inch of space. In my life, I have never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would pray, they would say goodbye to their loved ones and then throw themselves without fear or hesitation at the very face of death itself. Never surrendering. No one who saw them fighting against the inevitable could help but be moved to tears by their courageGǪtheir stubborn nobility. When they ran out of ships, they used guns. When they ran out of guns, they used knives and sticks and bare hands. They were magnificent. I only hope, that when it is my time, I may die with half as much dignity as I saw in their eyes at the end. They did this for two years. They never ran out of courage. But in the endGǪthey ran out of time.

CCP Falcon wrote:
Some of the people complaining in this thread have valid points about the fact that they don't feel safe. Simple fact of the matter is, that you're not suppose to feel safe in New Eden.
Eve is not a game for the faint hearted. It's a game that will chew you up and spit you out in the blink of an eye if you even think about letting your guard down or becoming complacent.
While every other MMO starts off with an intro that tells you you're going to be the savior of the realm, holds your hand, protects you, nurtures your development and ultimately guides you to your destiny as a hero along with several other million players who've had the exact same experience, EVE assaults you from the second you begin to play after you create a character, spitting you out into a universe that under the surface, is so complex that it's enough to make your head explode.
The entire design is based around being harsh, vicious, relentless, hostile and cold. It's about action and reaction, and the story that unfolds as you experience these two things.
True, we're working hard to lower the bar of entry so that more players can enjoy EVE and can get into the game. Our NPE (New Player Experience) is challenging, and we're trying to improve it to better prepare rookies for what lies out there, but when you start to play eve, you'll always start out as the little fish in the big pond.
The only way to grow is to voraciously consume what's around you, and its your choice whether that happens to be New Eden's abundant natural resources, or the other people who're also fighting their way to the top.
EVE is a playing experience like no other, where every action or reaction resonates through a single universe and is felt by players from all corners of the word. There are no shards here, no mirror universes, no instances and very few rules. If you stumble across something valuable, then chances are someone else already knows where you are, or is working their way toward you and you better be prepared to fight for what you've discovered.
EVE will test you from the outset, from the very second you undock and glimpse the stars, and will take pleasure from sorting those who can survive from those who'd rather curl up and perish.
EVE will let you fight until you collapse, then let you struggle to your feet, exhausted from the effort. Then when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel it'll kick you flat on your ass in the mud again and ask you why you deserve to be standing. It'll test you against every other individual playing at some point or another, and it'll ask for answers.
Give it an answer and maybe it'll let you up again, long enough to gather your thoughts. After a few more steps you're on the ground again and it's asking more questions.
EVE is designed to be harsh, it's designed to be challenging, and it's designed to be so deep and complex that it should fascinate and terrify you at the same time.
Corporation, Alliances and coalitions of tens of thousands have risen and fallen on these basic principles, and every one of those thousands of people has their own unique story to tell about how it affected them and what they experienced.
That's the beauty of EVE. Action and reaction. Emergence.
Welcome to the most frightening virtual playground you'll ever experience.

Paikis wrote:This thread comes up on almost a weekly basis. In fact, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a nerf cloaking thread in the first 2 pages on this forum section. Almost every single one of them goes like this:
1. OP posts a post with a new (lol) idea that always boils down to some variation of the following: - "There's a big meanie who is sitting in my system and not doing anything, but I don't know where he is and I can't ever just go next door. I can't find said meanie and even though I know that he's probably at work and poses no threat at all, I wont do anything in my system that I absolutely can't leave ever because he might not be at work and I might lose a ship. CCP please stop the meanie from being able to do nothing to me because he's probably at work"
2. Thread gets trolled because its been done literally to death. This horse has been beaten so hard and so often that it's little more than a memory of a memory of a red smear on the grass, and yet it STILL WONT DIE! In fact it's been done so many times that this particular horse is now undead; even if it does die, it will still be remembered and parodied.
3. Someone comes along and suggests that AFK cloakers can't hurt you, because they are, by their very definition, AFK. No one ever lost a ship to someone who ISN'T PLAYING THE GAME.
4. Someone else comes along and points out that while the cloaker might be AFK, he might not be, and so we have Schrodinger's Hot Dropper. The cyno pilot who might be AFK... but he might not be as well, and you will only know for sure when he decloaks, points and lights his candle. (Yes, I know this isn't how the cat works)
5. Someone else comes along and suggests that you use bait and setup a TARP. Or have a defence fleet on standby. Heaven forbid you have to actually fight to defend your space.
6. A further person comes along and suggests that the problem isn't cloaking AFK in your system that you can't possibly leave ever, but that you KNOW that the person is AFK in your system... and perhaps local should be removed because free 100% accurate intel is probably not the best thing in the game and if you didn't know that the big meanie was in your system, you wouldn't be worried about leaving the undock/POS.
7. Then another person pokes their head in and complains that local is 100% NEEDED because D-Scan and probing are such bad mechanics, and IF YOU TAKE MY LOCAL AWAY IM QUITTING FOREVER AND NO YOU CAN'T HAVE MY STUFF!
8. Someone asks if they can have 7's stuff.
We end up with another thread which goes on for pages and pages between complains about local, defence fleets, inability to just go next door, people who aren't playing the game but are playing the meta, lots of bickering and in the end nothing gets solved. CCP wont remove cloaking because it would mess with waaay too many things and it creates content (which is a good thing) by removing content (which is a bad thing) but they can't really think of any way to do it without a complete overhaul of the local and scanning systems.
Now that I've had this entire thread's conversation, can we just let it die? Please?
Better the Devil you know.

5 Ways Dale Carnegie Can Make You a Successful Leader
1. Be the king of conversation and the lord of listening. 2. Believe in your vision 3. Seek opportunity in failure 4. Love what you do and do what you love 5. Seek to learn and expand your soul
Dale Carnegie Quotes
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.
Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.
When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.
If only the people who worry about their liabilities would think about the riches they do possess, they would stop worrying.
Men of age object too much, consult too long, adventure too little, repent too soon, and seldom drive business home to the full period, but content themselves with a mediocrity of success.
Happiness doesn't depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude.
Applause is a receipt, not a bill.
Your purpose is to make your audience see what you saw, hear what you heard, feel what you felt. Relevant detail, couched in concrete, colorful language, is the best way to recreate the incident as it happened and to picture it for the audience.
There is only one way... to get anybody to do anything. And that is by making the other person want to do it.
People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.
If you believe in what you are doing, then let nothing hold you up in your work. Much of the best work of the world has been done against seeming impossibilities. The thing is to get the work done.
The person who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.
Most of us have far more courage than we ever dreamed we possessed.
We all have possibilities we don't know about. We can do things we don't even dream we can do.
Fear not those who argue but those who dodge.
Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.
Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.
You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.
The ideas I stand for are not mine. I borrowed them from Socrates. I swiped them from Chesterfield. I stole them from Jesus. And I put them in a book. If you don't like their rules, whose would you use?
Speakers who talk about what life has taught them never fail to keep the attention of their listeners.
Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.
The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way.
Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.

Once the people are indoctrinated with nationalistic beliefs, and the infrastructure to protect them from some constantly-changing and ever-expanding definition of an enemy is in place, there is no ability for the people to regain liberty. http://orwell.ru/library/reviews/kipling/english/e_rkip 2nd paragraph from the top: In its context the sense of the line is almost the exact opposite of this. The phrase GÇÿlesser breedsGÇÖ refers almost certainly to the Germans, and especially the pan-German writers, who are GÇÿwithout the LawGÇÖ in the sense of being lawless, not in the sense of being powerless. The whole poem, conventionally thought of as an orgy of boasting, is a denunciation of power politics, British as well as German. Two stanzas are worth quoting (I am quoting this as politics, not as poetry):
If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe, Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the Law GÇö Lord God of hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget GÇö lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard, All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding, calls not Thee to guard, For frantic boast and foolish word GÇö Thy mercy on Thy People, Lord!
3rd paragraph from the top: Much of Kipling's phraseology is taken from the Bible, and no doubt in the second stanza he had in mind the text from Psalm CXXVII: GÇÿExcept the lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.GÇÖ It is not a text that makes much impression on the post-Hitler mind. No one, in our time, believes in any sanction greater than military power; no one believes that it is possible to overcome force except by greater force. There is no GÇÿLawGÇÖ, there is only power. I am not saying that that is a true belief, merely that it is the belief which all modern men do actually hold. Those who pretend otherwise are either intellectual cowards, or power-worshippers under a thin disguise, or have simply not caught up with the age they are living in. Kipling's outlook is prefascist. He still believes that pride comes before a fall and that the gods punish hubris. He does not foresee the tank, the bombing plane, the radio and the secret police, or their psychological results.
... 6th paragraph from the top: But because he identifies himself with the official class, he does possess one thing which GÇÿenlightenedGÇÖ people seldom or never possess, and that is a sense of responsibility. The middle-class Left hate him for this quite as much as for his cruelty and vulgarity. All left-wing parties in the highly industrialized countries are at bottom a sham, because they make it their business to fight against something which they do not really wish to destroy. They have internationalist aims, and at the same time they struggle to keep up a standard of life with which those aims are incompatible. We all live by robbing Asiatic coolies, and those of us who are GÇÿenlightenedGÇÖ all maintain that those coolies ought to be set free; but our standard of living, and hence our GÇÿenlightenmentGÇÖ, demands that the robbery shall continue. A humanitarian is always a hypocrite, and Kipling's understanding of this is perhaps the central secret of his power to create telling phrases. It would be difficult to hit off the one-eyed pacifism of the English in fewer words than in the phrase, GÇÿmaking mock of uniforms that guard you while you sleepGÇÖ. It is true that Kipling does not understand the economic aspect of the relationship between the highbrow and the blimp. He does not see that the map is painted red chiefly in order that the coolie may be exploited. Instead of the coolie he sees the Indian Civil Servant; but even on that plane his grasp of function, of who protects whom, is very sound. He sees clearly that men can only b... |

... 20th and last paragraph: One reason for Kipling's power as a good bad poet I have already suggested GÇö his sense of responsibility, which made it possible for him to have a world-view, even though it happened to be a false one. Although he had no direct connexion with any political party, Kipling was a Conservative, a thing that does not exist nowadays. Those who now call themselves Conservatives are either Liberals, Fascists or the accomplices of Fascists. He identified himself with the ruling power and not with the opposition. In a gifted writer this seems to us strange and even disgusting, but it did have the advantage of giving Kipling a certain grip on reality. The ruling power is always faced with the question, GÇÿIn such and such circumstances, what would you do?GÇÖ, whereas the opposition is not obliged to take responsibility or make any real decisions. Where it is a permanent and pensioned opposition, as in England, the quality of its thought deteriorates accordingly. Moreover, anyone who starts out with a pessimistic, reactionary view of life tends to be justified by events, for Utopia never arrives and GÇÿthe gods of the copybook headingsGÇÖ, as Kipling himself put it, always return. Kipling sold out to the British governing class, not financially but emotionally. This warped his political judgement, for the British ruling class were not what he imagined, and it led him into abysses of folly and snobbery, but he gained a corresponding advantage from having at least tried to imagine what action and responsibility are like. It is a great thing in his favour that he is not witty, not GÇÿdaringGÇÖ, has no wish to +¬pater les bourgeois. He dealt largely in platitudes, and since we live in a world of platitudes, much of what he said sticks. Even his worst follies seem less shallow and less irritating than the GÇÿenlightenedGÇÖ utterances of the same period, such as Wilde's epigrams or the collection of cracker-mottoes at the end of Man and Superman.

Sun Tzu / Quotes
Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.
The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.
Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.
Sun Tzu
Strategist
Sun Tzu was a Chinese general, military strategist, and philosopher who lived in the Spring and Autumn period of ancient China. Wikipedia
Born: Qi Died: 496 BC, Wu
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/s/sun_tzu.html
If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.
Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.
Invincibility lies in the defence; the possibility of victory in the attack.
Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance.
The quality of decision is like the well-timed swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and destroy its victim.
The opportunity to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death.
All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.
https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/1771.Sun_Tzu Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.GÇ¥ GÇò Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.GÇ¥
All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.GÇ¥
If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected .GÇ¥
In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunityGÇ¥
Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment GÇö that which they cannot anticipate.GÇ¥
Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory: 1 He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight. 2 He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces. 3 He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks. 4 He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared. 5 He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.GÇ¥
There is no instance of a nation benefitting from prolonged warfare.GÇ¥
The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.GÇ¥
Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain.GÇ¥
When the enemy is relaxed, make them toil. When full, starve them. When settled, make them move.GÇ¥
Treat your men as you would your own beloved sons. And they will follow you into the deepest valley.GÇ¥
When you surround an army, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard.GÇ¥
There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard.
There are not more than five primary colours, yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever been seen.
There are not more than five cardinal tastes, yet combinations of them yield more flavours than can ever be tasted.GÇ¥
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.GÇ¥
To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skillGÇ¥
who wishes to fight must first count the costGÇ¥
One may know how to conquer without being able to do it. GÇ¥
What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.GÇ¥
Be extremely subtle even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.GÇ¥
He who is prudent and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious.GÇ¥
If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete.GÇ¥
Rouse him, and learn the principle of his activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself, so as to find out his vulnerable spots.GÇ¥
Thus the expert in battle moves the enemy, and is not moved by him.GÇ¥
Anger may in time change to gladness; vexation may be succeeded by content. But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being; nor can the dead ever be brought back to life.GÇ¥

Continuing in the same vein, and because I've just watched Snatch Wars on youtube.
And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it's no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig s***, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig". ~ also Brick Top

We see things only as we are constructed to see them, and can gain no idea of their absolute nature. With five feeble senses we pretend to comprehend the boundlessly complex cosmos, yet other beings with a wider, stronger, or different range of senses might not only see very differently the things we see, but might see and study whole worlds of matter, energy, and life which lie close at hand yet can never be detected with the senses we have."

And this is why I play eve online. Perfect. |

Pillage, then burn 2. A Sergeant in motion outranks a Lieutenant who doesn't know what's going on . 3. An ordnance technician at a dead run outranks everybody 4. Close air support covereth a multitude of sins 5. Close air support and friendly fire should be easier to tell apart, 6. If violence wasnGÇÖt your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it 7. If the food is good enough the grunts will stop complaining about the incoming fire. 8. Mockery and derision have their place. Usually, it's on the far side of the airlock 9. Never turn your back on an enemy 10. Sometimes the only way out is through... through the hull 11. Everything is air-droppable at least once 12. A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head 13. Do unto others 14. "Mad Science" means never stopping to ask "what's the worst thing that could happen?" . 15. Only you can prevent friendly fire 16. Your name is in the mouth of others: be sure it has teeth 17. The longer everything goes according to plan, the bigger the impending disaster 18. If the officers are leading from in front, watch for an attack from the rear 19. The world is richer when you turn enemies into friends, but that's not the same as you being richer. 20. If you're not willing to shell your own position, you're not willing to win 21. Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Take his fish away and tell him he's lucky just to be alive, and he'll figure out how to catch another one for you to take tomorrow 22. If you can see the whites of their eyes, somebody's done something wrong 23. The company mess and friendly fire should be easier to tell apart 24. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a big gun 25. If a manufacturer's warranty covers the damage you do, you didn't do enough damage 26. "Fire and Forget" is fine, provided you never actually forget. 27. Don't be afraid to be the first to resort to violence 28. If the price of collateral damage is high enough, you might be able to get paid to bring ammunition home with you 29. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy, no more, no less 30. A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go 31. Only cheaters prosper 32. Anything is amphibious if you can get it back out of the water 33. If you're leaving tracks, you're being followed 34. If youGÇÖre leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun 35. That which does not kill me has made a tactical error 36. When the going gets tough, the tough call for close air support 37. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'reload.' 38. What's easy for you can still be hard on your clients. 39. There is a difference between "spare" parts and "extra" parts 40. Not all good news is enemy action. 41. "Do you have a backup?" means "I can't fix this. 42. "They'll never expect this" means "I want to try something stupid." 43. If it's stupid and it works, it's still stupid and you're lucky 44. If it will blow a hole in the ground, it will double as an entrenching tool. 45. The size of the combat bonus is inversely proportional to the likelihood of surviving to collect it. 46. Don't try to save money by conserving ammunition. 47. Don't expect the enemy to cooperate in the creation of your dream engagement. 48. If it ain't broke, it hasn't been issued to the infantry. 49. Every client is one missed payment from becoming a target 50. Every target is one bribe away from becoming a client. 51. Let them see you sharpen the sword before you fall on it. 52. The army you've got is never the army you want 53. The intel you've got is never the intel you want 54. It's only too many troops if you can't pay them. 55. It's only too many weapons if they're pointing in the wrong direction. 56. Infantry exists to paint targets for people with real guns 57. Artillery exists to launch large chunks of budget at an enemy if cannot actually see. 58. The pen is mightiest when it writes orders for swords. 59. Two wrongs is probably not going to be enough 60. Any weapon's rate of fire is inversely proportional to the number of available targets. 61. Don't bring big grenades into small rooms." 62. Anything labeled "This End Toward Enemy" is dangerous at both ends. 63. The brass knows how to do it by knowing who can do it 64. An ounce of sniper is worth a pound of suppressing fire 65. After the toss, be the one with the pin, not the one with the grenade. 66. Necessity is the mother of deception. 67. If you can't carry cash, carry a weapon. 68. Negotiating from a position of strength does not mean you shouldnGÇÖt also negotiate from a position near the exits[ . 69. Sometimes rank is a function of firepower. 70. Failure is not an option. It is mandatory. The option is whether or not to let failure be the last thing you do."

Funny how many cool quotes of Allied generals from WWII can be found and how hard it is to find any cool quotes from Axis generals. So I had to do a lot of internet research to dig at least some of them up, in an effort to bring balance to the force:
"Gentlemen, you fought like lions...but you were led by donkeys." Field Marshal Erwin Rommel
"Sweat saves blood. Blood saves lives. Brains saves both" Erwin Rommel
"Please don't worry about me, I'm a hopeless optimist." Last words of Grand Admiral Wilhelm Canaris when facing his execution squad
I couldn't find any remarkable quotes by Japanese officers however..maybe they were never translated into English?
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.

Grace Hopper/Quotes It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
You don't manage people; you manage things. You lead people. If it's a good idea, go ahead and do it. It's much easier to apologize than it is to get permission. Leadership is a two-way street, loyalty up and loyalty down. Respect for one's superiors; care for one's crew.
Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (9 December 1906 GÇô 1 January 1992)
(I had my first programming course following a $10,000 scholarship in 1990 which included CoBOL. However, I failed, due to attacks at my residence. I took the same course 2 years later, however, it was from around May 1992, and she had recently passed away, although I only now found out that she had passed away back then.)

Now here's a man who understands women...
William Golding British Novelist, Playwright & Poet 1911 -- 1993
I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men. They are far superior and always have been. Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she will give you a baby. If you give her a house, she will give you a home. If you give her groceries, she will give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she will give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of ****!

GÇ£But every military leader, from the lowest to the highest, owes it to the men whose lives are at his disposal to speak out clearly when he feels that a serious mistake is about to be made.GÇ¥
... GÇ£Even were he (the enemy) to be rendered quiescent for a time by endless bombardment, it would still be necessary to meet him (the enemy) face to face on the ground to subdue him and to keep him subdued.GÇ¥
GÇ£We forgot that our diplomacy could be no stronger than the military muscle we maintained to support it.GÇ¥ GÇ£No man in uniform, be he private or fiveGÇôstar general, may decide for himself whether an order is consonant with his personal views. While the loyalty he owes his superiors is reciprocated with equal force in the loyalty owed him from above, the authority of his superiors is not open to question.GÇ¥
GÇ£The sacrifices we have made, and those we shall yet support, are not offered vicariously for others, but in our own direct defense.GÇ¥

GÇ£These are the things for which we fight. On the need to read history: "We donGÇÖt emphasize this enough in our service schools, even the War College. My advice to any young officer is read GÇö read GÇö read. And learn from the successes of the great ones and their failures."
On the nature of man: "Man is the most dangerous predator on Earth. It is bred in his bones. He has had to fight for a living since time immemorial, and he always will. ThatGÇÖs human nature and itGÇÖs not going to change."
Why he declines to talk to soldiers from stages or platforms: "I always disliked standing above people. IGÇÖm no better than they are. In rank, yes; in experience, yes; but not as a manGǪWhen reviewing troops I would never permit them to raise a reviewing stand. I always stood there on the field, six to eight feet from the right flank of the unit going by. Then I could look into the eyes of the men going by. That's some wisdom right there. A tale, about my Japanese wife's samurai ancestor who started on a solo "sword quest": -He left Edo (old Tokyo). He encountered a person, which was actually a fox (kitsune) which had assumed human form. He detected that it was a tricky and dangerous kitsune. So, he lifted a big stone over his head to show his strength, and smacktalked the kitsune about it. So the kitsune lifted a bigger stone over its head, and smacktalked about it. So our sword quest warrior lifted an even bigger one, threw it down, and smackswaggered around. And so, the kitsune hefted a huge rock over its head... which it couldn't handle, and pinned it to the ground, and suffocated it.
-Continuing on his quest, our hero reached a farming village. There he met a beautiful girl. She was so beautiful, lovely and enchanting that he married her. And settled down in the village and became a farmer or something. And so ended our hero's solo sword quest.
-(Well I guess the happy ending is that he and his beautiful, lovely and enchanting bride produced kids that became me wife's ancestors. But nobody in the family every talks about that. The story always ends with, "He reached the first village, met a girl and-- THE END. Ha ha ha!")

Kirk: 3:36 I'm not sure, but I think we've been insulted.

What we are really doing is keeping it from becoming yet another hyper inflated virtual economy at the cost of pissing off a particular group of players. Prior to this patch, a relatively small group of players were making the same amount of isk in npc bounties as the entire player-base did a year ago.
Anyone closely following the MERs will know that NPC bounties are out of control and have been spiralling that way since Citadels. What sort of balanced gameplay is it when you can safely sit in a super making up to 260M ticks (EDIT: generally 140-170M, 260 is the largest observation, bad example)? Of course we know that supers are not solely to blame, VNI's, Ishtars, and basically every decent drone platform is responsible for a massive chunk of the bounty pool but not at nearly the same efficiency.
This isn't only screwing with the money supply but it's dramatically increasing RMT. When you can reliably sit and make 500M pure isk/hr** pr. account** (hence the number of "unsubbing 17 accounts" threads), some people choose to look at it this way: you can be making over minimum salaries in some countries in RMT.
Then people complain about us nerfing mining when the mineral price index has been in a freefall for a long time and the only reason it's not worse is that the massive increase in mining volume is directly feeding into the e.g. the massive increase in super demand to get in on the bounty grind.
