Just wondered if anyone else who plays EVE plays for an american football team in the BAFL in the UK. I play for the Shropshire Revolution who are now in the league after gaining acceptance last year.

I'll be the first to admit that I've never really understood how American Football really differs from Rugby. I mean I know the rules are different, but when you get right down to it, they're pretty similar.
Anyhow, I used to play Rugby for a local youth team, when I was a wee kid. Far too much of a wimp to play against full grown people, though -----------------------------------------------

I never got around to playing back when it was intrested in trying out due to working evening shifts.
The local team has long since gone (charnwood beacons), all we have now are the aces, loughbough uni..
Shame the british scene ain't what it was back then, i used to go down and watch the beacons every sunday they were at home, there were quite a few that did... even though we never won a game
Hopefully it might ignite a little now we have a game coming back to wembley, iv'e been there before with 80000 people when the skins played the niners.. it was just an awsome occasion, it's weird how it all died out when you look at things like that and the crowds the monarchs used to pull before they first disbanded the world league.
Gl with the new season anyway.

always makes me laugh how so many people (normaly rugby players and arm chair experts) call american football saying its soft, funny how none of the rugby guys will come down and pad up for a practice session or game

Most probably are too busy, you know, with their man's game and all. I bet not many of them go and play rounders in their spare time, either

I've played both and when you wake up after a football game you feel like death. Rugby is mild in comparison.

I dunno. Seems to be its a game where a bunch of men in tights prance around the field, touching each other on the butt before handing stuff between their legs.
Rugby is a man's game . Not only that, but Australia is better then the silly poms...

The pads make you confident... and make you think, "I could kill him... and not feel a thing!" Playing the game is a lot of fun.

The main difference between the two sports is that in American Football you get 3 attempts to make 10 yards, in rugby you get 6 attempts to make as much distance as possibe. That tends to make rugby a faster flowing game, and US football a more strategic game relying on set plans and counter plans.
That's not intended as a critisism of either sport, just an explination of the differences to two games which may look similer to the layman, but are infact very different games.
In the 80's I was in the British Army, based close to the US airbase at Alcombury. We played our US friends a few times at both rugby and US rules football in a series of 'honour' matches.
On the whole I have to say. It was the Americans who seemed to be able to adapt better to playing rugby then us to playing US rules. In fact, on more then one occasion we managed to slip the odd US Airman into our regimental rugby team to help boost the side
