Can we please be able to choose like ten skill ahead of time instead of logging on and off all the time.
I am having to right down what time I have to wake up at night to change a skill.
That stinks, is there any other way?
I thought EVE Monitor was going to do it but I was mistaken. Too bad, I hate having to stay logged on to whait for a skill to just about end to get the next one started.

The idea is great but has a huge drawback. One would start an account .. learn the basics. get to the first row of LV 5 skills, puts em into line .. and cancels subscribtion. After 3 months he reactivates .. puts in 10 more skills and cancels again. CCP wont earn anything from it, and we, after 12 months, will face 10mil + SP Chars who never ever seen a shuttle.

There was some discussion among CCP for allowing two skills to be chosen at a time, one on queue. Not much word since that speculative tidbit though.
What I find helps is keeping a mental list of long term skills that you can fall back on for when you're away for extended periods. And when you're playing, skill up the early fast levels.

This is actually on the drawing board. (the first phase of development) But it doesn't guarantee it will go through.

Edited by: Karasuma Akane on 28/01/2007 09:07:17 Just train a longer skill overnight, and come back to the shorter skills during the day. I just did it myself before logging off, set a 13-hour learning curve to upgrade a current skill even though Evemon says I should be starting two new skills (30 min & 2 hour training times) according to the 'plan'. Or set a long term skill goal that you switch to while asleep or away (like a level 5 you want to obtain), and switch back to a more immediate goal when you return.
Having to switch skills manually gets you to come online and interact with the game more often, which is what CCP wants. Otherwise (as noted above), people would just set up a skills queue and take days and weeks off from playing. |

Or CCP could simply stop skill training on inactive accounts. -----------------

They've already done this on Serenity (China server).
You should have seen the fuss that was kicked up when it was accidentally implied that it was for Tranquility too.

Ye i see the drawback but i started a complete new skill at 2 in morning i need level 3 so i stayed awake to put it to lvl 1 then i needed another 2 and a halfg hours to lvl 3 so now i need to wait again today before can use my new ship, id rather to be able to set one skill to train to certain skill like have a lvl 1 tkeep training untill lvl 4 instead of me wasting 9 hours of trainging time as i slept

A que would be awesome.
It'd be good to be able to get these crummy little 3 hour skills out of the way.

Just checking, but you do realize you can abort a skill mid-training, and you won't lose the skillpoints?
I have never done what you've been doing. Always switch to a long skill for overnight, and do the short ones when I know they'll finish at a convenient point. That way I also knock off longer skills as well, without diminishing my fun.
In fact, during the week, I only have one or two hours per evening to play, so actually juggle a number of skills so that they'll end when I'm actually online, or just finish them all off on the weekend.

Thats my usual tactic but its so difficult on a new character when you literally have next to nothing to do until X is complete.

I think because we still have to do stuff to earn money to buy new skills to learn and also have to go and get them in flight we would not see people just skilling up and never logging on.
It would just be better from time to time to have a que. And make the game more enjoyable some times.

Why can't ccp just make it so your account stops training when account is expired. And give whatever the hell people want to queue.
It really is annoying having to logon or stay logged for that remaining 15 minutes.
It's an annoyance and I don't see any reason to not have make it this way, IMO.
Sometime, i just leave my game logged on to avoid having to login to train new skill. That could have been saving them some server load has I given an option to queue training.

I dont like the idea.
Managing skill training times is part of the strategy of the game, and being able to queue them up would ruin that

Could you explain this? Why is managing skill training efficiently(planning training more skills in a row) breaking the game, and managing say, buying ammo in cases of 10000 pieces is not? Do you buy amo per mission, say 400 uranium and 300 iridium shells, or do you buy 10000 of each and replenish from your hangar? ----- FreeHansje

We sure are a spoiled bunch, arent we? Not a jab at you, because I am speaking for myself. Believe me I know that feeling of waiting out that last few minutes so I can go to freaking bed.
At the same time I try to keep in mind what it's like in other games: Eve is the only one I have EVER played that even allows advancement when I am not even logged in. That's just incredible. Compared to some other games, it would be like being really close to the next level and saying "I have to kill X more of these to level. Why can't they just make these last couple mobs worth a lot more XP so I dont have to stay here for 15 more minutes"?
I know it can be a pain but as it's already been pointed out, you lose nothing when you stop training one skill and pick another. So now when I am in that situation I just stop the short term one, fire up one that will go over night and pick up the short one when I log back in.
No need to get up in the middle of the night, or leave work early, or cancel the anniversery dinner.

I'd like just one extra skill queued up and I would be very happy. As a working adult, it is quite difficult to plan my training at times. I hate setting my alarm for 4am to change a skill, or having to switch one before I go to work so that I don't waste an hour or two of training before I get home. I would be able to plan so much more efficiently if I were able to just queue one extra skill.

I vote for a que!! I also desire a skill management tool ala Evemon from CCP. This tool would work flawlessly (as can be expected from the game's authors); and it would allow for 'skill management' to be done w/o having to open the game!!
This way I can manage my skills while doing other CPU intensive tasks; I can manage my skills at WORK!!! and other places and situation where opening the game would not be appropriate.
Heck, I want to manage my skills w/o opening the game, just so I don't have to hear my GF give me that look and hear her say, "you playing that game AGAIN!!".
I could probably go on and on, as to why the lack of a queue is a total inconvenience, and for the need for a skill management tool authored by CCP.
As for people abusing the capability to queue and cancel accounts---simply solution:
Limit the number of skills allowed in a queue for canceled accounts. Simple.

That's exactly what CCP wants to avoid, last I checked. There are a few threads in the Skills forum about it, I believe.
Oh, and it's spelled 'queue' not 'que' as several of you have put it. I personally have no problem with the system the way it is, as I just plan for skills to finish reasonably near a time I'll be able to log in (i.e. not at 3 AM or in the middle of a vacation). All it takes is a little thought.

The main reason why that won't include a long queue IMHO is that changing skills creates stickiness. You keep coming back because you have a reason. Then they can show you news articles as you log in to get your interest going again. Also as a player if you never had to log in to change skills after awhile you would forget about Eve and play something else. There goes the player base.
Setting 2 month long skills and not having to log in means no players in the game. Often (not always) you will log into the game to change a skill and then do just one mission or chat to other players. This creates the community and CCP needs to protect that above all else.

You're saying, I will pay CCP just so I can set my training queue and then forget about the game? I don't know about you, but I believe most of us have to work for our moola to pay for stuff and EVE. And you're saying I won't be playing EVE because of the training queue? Oh how spoiled am I, throwing money into a game that I won't even login to play, eh?
I want to login because I want to play, not because I want to change skill. I wake up in the middle of the night because of work or kids, not because I want to set another skill on training. I want to go to sleep now because I have few hours left before I need to wake up for work. I don't want to wait another 5 minutes to complete training. I could go on forever but you get the point.
On another note. Less logins, less lags.
In this day and age, everything is focused around efficiency. (or so I thought anyways)

I login because I want to play, then I efficiently switch to a long skill (2 days, 7 days, whatever) right before I log off. I do go to sleep now because I have a few hours left before I need to wake up for work. I don't wait another 5 minutes to complete training. I login again next time I want to play and switch back to that skill that has 5 minutes left.
I'm just happy I'm able to learn skills while offline, or during downtime, and I don't have to spend 20 hours mining Veldspar in order to switch from a Basic Miner to a Miner I, which is how most other MMO's operate.

How bout instead of a Queue, skills just don't stop training between levels. I think this kind of meets both sides halfway; you have to sign on if you want to do any sort of skill management and to obtain them in an efficient order, but if you canÆt make it to log on then you still have something that accumulating points, as long as it wasn't L5. Though this would likely have to be disabled on inactive accounts, I could imagine allot of capital ship pilots trying to make use of it.

As much as I think a skill queue is completely unnecessary, I actually agree with the previous poster. Have a skill continue between levels if you arenÆt online to train it. ItÆs simple, clean, and efficient without being overpowered. The fact of the matter is that some people can log on at-will to change skills, others canÆt. ItÆd be nice to have something like this to act as a balance between, whereas a queue system makes for æautomatic character buildingÆ.
People donÆt have to play to make money for alts, for example. They just send æem the isk and park æem in a school station filled with all the skillbooks he/she wants. Having a full queue just makes this too simple. Given the fact that people still do build characters to barter (legitimately or otherwise), having too flexible a queue would pave the way for a lot of abuse to that end. No one likes macro miners, nor those who buy isk from them. So lets not give them the inherent ability to macro-mine characters too.
Beyond that, EVE-Mon is an exceptionally useful character planner that helps you plan efficient training routes. You can tailor the plan, with skill ending times around when you know you can set/change the skills. You can dynamically update the plan as your schedule changes, or as you change your mind while playing around with the skills at work. The key word in all of this is you. Not the game running a pre-defined queue of skills, you have to do the bulk of the work.

We're talking about a game that you get more powerful in while you're offline. An early poster hit it right on, we're a really lazy bunch.
If I want to finally get my lazy behind around to training minmatar bs 5, all I have to do is set the skill training and not log in for a month. In order to reach the highest tiers of a skill in any other game, I'd have to grind until I was crazy.
My point is, developing a queue would not only take time away from other development items, but it would increase server load way too much. Instead of the servers remembering what skill you're training and when it'll end, they'll have to keep track of what five skills are next, when to switch over, etc. And they'll need error checking code if the queue server and the skill server aren't one and the same, since the skill server has a habit of being just a little bit off, so when the queue server tries to start the next skill, the first skill might not be ready.....
Ad nauseam. It's just too complicated and time consuming to bother with. People aren't leaving the game because of the skill system, if anything, people are joining the game because of it. It's been said way too many times for too many games to count, but for an issue like this, you (and an insanely large amount of others) will have to 'vote' with your money.

So you are an ISK billionaire. Most of are not; you do realize, that playing EVE is mostly for fun and for making ISK?
Quote: developing a queue would not only take time away from other development items,
Oh come on! This is the worse argument I have read in a long tim,e for NOT doing something!
Quote: but it would increase server load way too much.
In what way? And login just to change a skilltraining does not increase the load?!?!
Quote: It's just too complicated and time consuming to bother with.
Are you an EVE-developer? You seem to know a lot about how things are/should be implemented in EVE.
In short, you are arguing that it can't/should not be done, referring very selectively sometimes to previous posters. If you would have a look at all posters, you would see several solutions for the problems you sketch. You would also read many reasons, why a skill queu would be a good idea, but you seem so set against this, that you don't wish to read those postings in favor?

I personally like the fact of the self management. I mean think about it. If you didn't want to play eve much, for the moment anyway, you set all of your spaceship command skills to get to level 5... how awesome for you!
But what about me? The new guy? If you can queue like this, everyone who doesn't play and keeps their account active loses the only disadvantage they had, and I lose the only possible way to ever try and catch up!!
I think if you can't manage your skills (Which I know is hard because I also DO find it annoying) it ends up being better for me, I'll pass you in SP's someday! And vice versa, I think this is why they haven't implemented a queue.
That and ebay... open 5 accounts, set XX skills to train, wait 4 months, sell for profit. It's not a secret that CCP doesn't like ebay'ers too much :)
