Hello fellow capsuleers.
I am currently developing an out-of-game utility called "Eve Ore Timer" (EOT) to help miners dramatically increase their mining yields.
The premise is simple:
Miners typically waste a lot of time mining asteroids that are actually depleted. EOT is timing utility that will provide an audible notice when asteroids are empty prompting you to switch your mining lasers to the next target.
In my testing this has resulted in an ISK/hour increase in the 20% - 50% range...the smaller the asteroids in the belt the larger the noticeable improvement in yield.
The tool is designed to run atop the Eve client in Windowed/Fixed Window modes and features transparency sliders to limit the obstruction of the game client.
This is currently alpha release software and as such is not feature complete (separate queues for mining lasers 2 and 3 are yet to be added) and bugs may still persist. This disclaimer aside, I have used the utility for many hours and believe it to be in a state where others can begin testing along side my own while enjoying the benefits the tool offers.
You may download the alpha version here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4qrKdhK1bHjLUs1XzhoaHY4eFk/view?usp=sharing
Please do not be alarmed at the Windows Smart Screen warning when attempting to run the application. I am not a registered developer yet.
Comments and bug findings are welcome. Please no feature suggestions at this point...I have many hours of coding ahead of me before I look to expand the feature set.
If you would like to donate ISK in support of this project please include a note indicating what you like, what you dislike and any minor changes that would improve the tool.

Can you make an audible notice when someone enters local?

Post should be in EVE Technology lab section - if legit. Reasoning for "public" alpha testing is a little thin as there are other avenues that work just as fine, nor is it truly necessary for "everyone" to get involved in an alpha. With no source code published, expecting a user to keep faith that no malwares, backdoor or data capture algorithm included in the download only works for the security ignorant.

I think this is borderline EULA non-compliant with the mining timer. Before you posted this thread, did you post a support ticket to the GMs asking if this is allowed? I would if I were you atleast.

I am however, 99.99% certain that this is not allowed according to the EULA. I remember the Eve Bacon software that had this feature and many other that weren't exactly legal and that software was pretty much outlawed on the forums if I remember right. |

Agreed with Capsups, this may very well be against the EULA. Though the EVE Bacon thing was deemed illegal because it used game logs. This seems like it uses visual data on the screen to send out an alert or something. Please talk to CCP before developing this any further, OP. Would be a shame to waste your time on something that isn't allowed to be used.

I doubt there will be anything wrong with it as you're manually copy/pasting the scanner information to the application and manually adjusting the queue. It's exactly the same thing I was doing with excel. Although, I don't understand why the application would need to be on top of the eve window.
As long as it's not directly reading/manipulating the screen or making use of eve's log files, you should be good. |

While I understand your concern I am 100% confident this application is completely legal as it does not interact with the Eve Online client in any way whatsoever.
I merely make a call to the Clipboard.GetText() .NET method after the user has pressed CTRL-C within the game client.
Everything else is merely math based on your mining rate and a stopwatch.
I do not send any commands to the game and there is no botting or automating of any game functions. |

You are correct. There is no log or client interaction. I too was using Excel along with an external stopwatch before developing this application.
The application doesn't necessarily have to run on top of the Eve window but it provides a nice graphical countdown progress bar for the mining laser and cargohold capacity. You could also run it on a separate computer entirely if you wanted to manually type in the ore values. |

Thank you for your concern. I will explore avenues for getting this approved by CCP to include providing them with the source code if requested. |

Thank you for all of your concerns. I literally did not consider that this program might be a EULA violation as it does not touch the game client in any way. In fact it could be run on a completely separate computer if desired.
To avoid any negative repercussions I have submitted a GM ticket to CCP along with the source code for their review.
I will adhere to any guidance they provide and let you all know if there are any issues or concerns. |

It does not surprise me that your antivirus software flags the application as suspect as there were times during development my virus software would complain during debugging.
If you are uncomfortable using the software at this stage I would advise you to wait until the application is complete at which point I will release the source code to the community in the hopes it will be enhanced beyond my capabilities.
With source in hand which you could review and compile the application yourself to remove any suspicion. |

I have added SHA1 checksum information to my original post.
Please do use versions of Eve Ore Timer obtained from any source other than the download link included in the first message of this thread.
You can check SHA1 checksums using Windows built in "certutil" with the following command:
certutil -hashfile "Eve Ore Timer.zip" sha1

CCP does not review or authorize third party utilities and as such this software is "use at your own risk" as is any third party utility. |

Eve Ore Timer Alpha has been updated to build 1.0.0.22.
Improvements include:
- More logical asteroid queue - now limited to 6 entries (matching the most targets an Exhumer can track) - Autofill works much better with the addition of radio buttons to select which queue entry to autofill (with wrap around) - Slightly reduced screen real estate due to shorter queue - Laser 1 text now updated to read "Laser Group 1" - Each laser group can contain up to 64 mining lasers.
Download link on the OP has been updated to point to the new Build 1.0.0.22 zip file. |

Absolutely. I run it atop my "main" character's window while multi-boxing all the time. Just use laser groups 1-3 for up to three characters. You could also run multiple instances of EMT (formerly EOT) if you are multi-boxing with more than three characters simultaneously.
Note I recommend firing all of the mining lasers from each ship at a single target as it greatly eases the burden of switching targets. EMT removes the waste associated with dead rock mining and spreading your lasers is no longer necessary to maximize efficiency.
Reminder - be sure to enter the appropriate mining yield for each character on the "Yield" tab. |

Development of Eve Mining Timer is complete.
Build 1.0.0.47 is the first feature complete release.
Note the settings files (EMT_Settings.txt) from prior alpha versions are incompatible with this version and any future versions.
If you are not already using it I recommend downloading Eve Isk Per Hour (IPH) as a great companion for EMT as EMT reads the Eve IPH market data save format.
