Every now and then, usually along with a patch, we hear this statement. Something or the other in the changing environment that is Eve has come along and ruined somebody's gameplay experience. What usually also follows is that the insulted party now considers themselves old school and all those pirates who ply the trade after them as newbies.
The fact of the matter is that piracy will never die. As long as there are game mechanics that allow people to kill other players without their consent, there will be people doing it and there will also always be people that make a living out of it in game. The mentality of the thing isn't tied to any single set of mechanics. It is more fluid than that. Whatever the mechanics, there will be pirates. That is the spirit of the thing and that is what is old school.

Oh? How? By implementing so called "nerfs" with new patches? This doesnt cripple pirates, I teaches them to adapt further to problematic situation. The only way to cripple piracy is for all non pirates to remain ever docked and play WoW in the meantime. Even then I doubt it gets crippled, theyll just have at each other

The fact that warp to zero has been implemented and people are still going through low sec like a lawnmower killing people shows that piracy is definitely not dead and I for one am happy to say that.

What I also find intensely funny now that WTZ is implemented is that there are lots of people slowboating through low-sec on autopilot in their industrials. That's prime meat for pirates right there. Also, despite certain persistent claims to the contrary, there's lots of pirates in low-sec. At least, I haven't had any trouble finding ones to shoot at lately.
Every now and then pirate groups fix their sec, become mercs, join BoB or whatever. When these things happen it isn't the pirate apocalypse, even though with the withdrawal of yet another infamous pirate crew such is invariably claimed, it's just players looking to do different things.

I agree - we have a steady supply of new pirates. Good thing the older ones turn merc / privateer / 0.0 pvper or lowsec would be even more overcrowded

*IF* piracy would be dead, lowsec would be full of people, mining, ratting, missioning, etc .. or ? Why would they not go there if there is no fear of pirates ?
Well, seems pirates are victims of their own success :)

'old school' pirates, lmfao... what the hell are you talking about ?
It's a game....
As far as I see it game mechs in eve have been evolving in the general direction of those who don't want to be forced into PVP and lose stuff.
I don't really care tbh, but I'll have a good whine about it where others can read now and again!. If no-one whined then the players would have no say in the direction the game went and CCP would always think they had it 'right'
'whiner' as defined on a forum, is someone who complains about something that the majority don't agree with. TOUGH!
If anyone ever mentions 'old school' pirates again I'm going to play 'hello kitty online'
edit: and before anyone jumps in calling me a 'lazy pirate'. YES I am, but I still kill dozens of people... which is all I care about. Eve shoot em up is a fun game. End of!.

Recent problems effecting my play style -
WTZ Stab Nerf HP Increase Cap changes (im not 100% on this) RIGS giving uber resists Boosters 'soon'
These 4 have made it near on impossible for me to operate as a low sec ganker solo.
Yeah yeah, I should work with others it's a MMO etc etc... but I used to enjoy pitting my lightly tanked raven against other BS under sentry fire. It just doesn't work any more...
The above was something I enjoyed, now relegated to something that just aint possible on a daily basis...
Boohoo me ?, yeah.. HELL YEAH. Sure I can find other things to do...but the game 'I' play is all I care about.

Eve is becoming a safer place for everyone... if you can't see this then you are blind.
Well you are at best, a mediocre low sec ganker tiller, no offence but if you ask me, you just lack balls.
Go play with a recon or something.
tbh, you're the carebear, your argument is that you now risk dying when killing douzens of people, why should YOU risk to die? you dont wanto die, screw you ccp! you added risk!

We all know what would happen then :)The roids get buffed and the miners complain so then the roids get loot drops and the miners go yay! Then the Miners would cry out for Officer Roids with phat lewt dropz once the roid is mined out. WOuld make a whole new sphere of combat as carebears tear each other apart with fleets of mining ships, armadas of drones pillage each belt constantly with a frenzy of torn fluff, stuffing and whines as the officer roids don't appear... then they cry even louder and the roids mine themselves into the carebear corp hangers while they get a weekly check list of which rare drops they want given for free.....
Whoops... rambling again.... "Forbid a man to think for himself or to act for himself and you may add the joy of piracy and the zest of smuggling to his life"

tiller to a point i agree eve is getting a little safer for those in newbie corp's but anyone in a player corp it is just as bad as the pirate's just war dec's empire corp's so they have a few poeple they can gate gank in place's like ren's & jita and a few other systems,
Low sec is still as bad as in was before the WTZ/Rigs and other things. I have lose as many ship's now as i have before the new "Nerf's"

What namecalling? you call names all the time, by your logic you yourself are a carebear.
Your complaint is that the game is made safer and risk free for carebears, because you can no longer kill them with impunity.
How does this not backfire upon yourself?
Your argument is, you wish to conduct solo butcher of other players in a risk free enviourment, ehm....good things come to those who dare my good man.
You say, it is a shame this game is made safer, it is made safer for others because it is made more dangerous to you.
You want it to be safer for you, so that you can make it less safe for others.
Now THAT is a weak argument.
What the hell my corporation has to do with this, is beyond me, i'm Ms. Kublai to you, if anything.

I play eve 'shoot em up'
CCP keeps nerfing my space ship and boosting the guys I want to kill.
Thats sums it up, of course it's better for 'them' and of course I don't like it. It's like someone keep turning up the difficulty settings... :-)
The game is being made safer, safer because the job that us bad guys play is getting harder.
Safe game = More long term subscriptions
Above reason being good for CCP and Business.
Things are still 'ok' atm for my chosen play style, but things are evolving slowly to something I don't like, and I know quite a few 'bad' guys who have recently left because of it.

You play eve shoot'em up with cheat codes tiller.
Eve-shoot'em up on godmode may be fun for you, but the people you kill would like a chance to kill you too, and you know what? They should.
If you wanto play shoot'em up you better be prepared to get your head blown up, or fail miserably at killing a victim or two.
I know for a fact you can setup a ship, even if your fittings reflect your rather warped opinions of pvp, so I refuse to believe you have issues killing iteron V's.
The warp core nerf was another blow to carebears, carebear-pvp'ers, people who wanted to kill without dying.
Losing people like that pains me just about as much as seeing people leave low sec mining for World of Warcraft.

And here you are with your whinage ray set to maximum.
Personally I don't think pirates will ever be satisfied no matter how many options they have to gank people.
And right now they have plenty of options.
Try mining in low sec. Pirates can kill you.
Try ratting in low sec. Pirates can kill you.
Try mining in high sec. They'll steal your ore.
Try ratting in high sec. They'll steal your cans.
Try hauling in high sec. They'll suicide gank you hauler.
Try hauling in low sec. TheyÆll tank sentries and blow you up.
Try missions in low sec. They'll scan you out and kill you.
Try missions in high sec. They'll scan you out and steal your loot.
Do anything in 0.0 and be prepared to die, die, die.
You keep spewing the same crap over and over. So will I.

Quote: I still kill dozens of people... which is all I care about. Eve shoot em up is the game I play, and I have a ton of fun blowing stuff up. End of!
Quote: These have made it near on impossible for me to operate as a low sec ganker solo.
Quote: the game 'I' play is all I care about.
These three quotations speak volumes about you, why not save some face and cut it with the epic whines .
Ganking isn't PvP, sure it's piracy (of a sort, I guess, but certainly not how I pirate ), and I guess some people find that kind of playstyle fun (ganking haulers and the occasional Ibis all day.... don't forget their pods!).
This is a way to make ISK. This isn't PvP. This is OctoberSnow/Ginger Magician gaming.
Honestly, all the people whining about how "Piracy is dead", "Lowsec is empty", "I can't play the way I want to anymore" are doing it for the following reasons:
~ They can no longer get as many hauler kills and easy, meaningless ganks for their killboard
~ They are scared to engage another player with a low sec status who *might* just know how to handle themselves
~ They are scared of a fair or almost fair fight
~ They aren't real pirates; they never duel, they never ransom, they just kill everyone they can before running when a real foe shows up, and hope to get lucky with the drops at some point
I don't normally post stuff like this on the forums, but this thread got my attention - it's the tenth or eleventh one of its type this week. All this whining is pathetic coming from some of the people it's coming from.
The only issues I have with the current state of lowsec, are all the 2 month old players in battleship blobs, and the "pirate" () blobs:
- "Nice gatecamp" + "Not really, you escaped" - "Does one of your BC pilots want a death 1v1, it's awfully rude of me to run without fighting back ;-)" + "Sorry, we don't -do- fair fights"
I am certainly not lacking in targets to kill, all these flashy red idiots chasing after miners drop nice tech 2 and faction loots, and are making me rich. --------- |
