Scan out a hidden plex. We go in with a suicide probe to see what is in there and see some monoclinic bistot. Check out the roids and bam! about 200,000 units of monoclinic bistot in 6 different roids. Our industrials make a mess all over their keyboards. So we get ganged up and after a lot of trial and error a couple of us manage to clear the room in the complex. By this time you are hiding babies from these drooling miners and they all warp out to the gate.
At this point I will refrain from posting the things you hear over TS as the hulk's and covetors were all given this message about how the gate is not configured for their ships. It seems like an awful waste to put these roids in the complex and not allow mining ships in. The loot in these plexes sure isn't worth it.

then perhaps they should fly soemthing smaller than a mining barge to mine those asteroids... simple solution
So you can't use the uber hulk get over it. Mine in a bs or cruiser, and yeah I know mining barges are for mining and bs's aren't but if your miners cant come up with the obvious solution then they need to be reminded.

not really a miner, but I thought you needed special crystals for the rare types of ore.

You could fit up a BS to mine in there. But most BS pilots don't have mining skills, and most miners don't have BS skills.
The complex also had 3 Mining installations in it. If I had a mining installation I would configure my gate for mining barges.

I wouldn't if I knew there were a load of greedy miners sitting outside the complex waiting to get in.

Mining BS all right, but next you're going to find out you can't get any haulers in. How are you going to solve that? Cyno in another abused Carrier? --

There was a dev blog indicating that exploration could be used to find hidden asteroid belts, even in empire space. Given that, one would think mining vessels could be used. Let us greedy miners hope it's a bug.
Entertaining post, BTW. Some of the replies made me laugh. Vinni [AvEm] Minister of Central Services |

Um, ya know mining barges are a relatively new ship class. Most sensible people will be capable of mining in something other than barges.

Some exploration sites are plain roid fields that allow you to bring barges in. The best ones seem to be allow only fighting ships, but proper 8 turreted BS should mine efficiently enough.

I found one -- Gurista Lookout -- in .8 last night, that had Jaspet, Herm, and Omber roids. Not huge, but worth mining.
Except that the largest thing allowed through the gate was a destroyer. No barges, no haulers, no transport cruisers, nothing.
I can mine it in a cormorant no trouble. But how the feck am I supposed to get the ore out?
Seems a terrible waste.
So far the best plan seems to be mine into jetcans, juggle the jetcans to keep them fresh, then finish the complex, warp away, and then warp back to the cans in a hauler after the complex goes poof. Unfortunately these complexes seeem a bit buggy about going poof, which makes that a lot of risky.

Neh complexs aren't buggy u just havent destroyed everything thats ment to be destroyed and I mean everything in both level's Yuh there seems to be confusion over what type of exploration site the op's on about. That is a complex site not a mining site, Fact its got bistot in as decoration is a mean freak chance of the scenery selector. Normally scenery is veld scord or plagio.
As for barges not been able to get into the complex thats normal gate lock and is fair tbh barges weren't designed to enter a hostile enviorment. Best way to do it is to do it the old fashioned team way.. Couple of guards to ward off npc's and a group of mining BS (or what ever the highest ship allowed) Keep one structure alive where your mining then pop it when ur finished and warp out and in and get the haulers to do there work.

My experience is that this usually works, but not 100%. Some of the complexes stay up after you blow everything and do everything.
Given that, it seems stupid to spend hours and hours mining in a destroyer, on the hope that the complex will go pop before your jetcans do.

You could always tractor them out its only a few thousand k :P
you can keep refreshing cans until u've made sure everythings gone and then get everyone to leave the system so it forces a reset

Hmm, was mining the Omber roids in stage 1 of "Portal To War (2 of 5)" in a Retriever once, and after too many hours I finished up the last roid and, in a mining-induced haze, headed for the acceleration gate and warped into the second stage, see what else rocks I could mine in the second stage.
Let me tell you, I'd have been VERY glad if that gate hadn't allowed me through.
Personally, I like the limitations on the mining roids in Explorations and Complexes. Makes for a nice think. We've found one where barges theoretically could get in, but would take almost one hour to reach the first rock (with very good skills!) so we ditched that idea. --
