Edited by: Doomicon on 15/01/2007 13:51:32 K, total newb here. Was doing rat runs in 0.5. I know enough to stay away from other peoples kills. So I was a bit surprised this weekend when this HUGE ship locks my frigate up and starts a convo with "You messed up".
Apparently I looted one of his kills. I didn't get a warning, and I never loot kills that aren't my color. I had just finished killing a couple of rats. How did I flag? Is this a bug?
Thankfully the player was really cool, and didn't turn my Tristin to dust (thankfully, as I just sunk my entire savings in it).
btw, this game is awesome!

Yes I'm sure, quite the contrary he was really helpfull, gave me some pointers, and even offered me 500k ISK to get me started. I didn't take it, figured he saved me plently by not blowing me up!
So far the player community has been Awesome! To be fair I haven't traveled to <0.5 yet, to check out the player community there ;-)

Of course there's a community in low sec. The community will be waiting on the jump in to 0.4 and will provide a very warm welcome..........so warm as to melt your ship and probably your pod. Make yourself an alt and cruise on down to 0.4 and find out yourself. It will only take about 5 minutes to see what the low sec community is like. Instead of "exploring", you'll be doing more "exploding".

You might have taken by mistake from one of his wreaks, thus the experience you had. No reason to worry about it realy, as you'll forget about it soon enough but hopefully be more carefull in the future.
E.g. remember teh wreaks in the newbie tutorial complexes, in the soalr system where you entered the game, they were all the same color, becasue you were all in the same corporation. The only yellow ones were from older pilots perhaps....
Now about LOW SEC space, we do have a community in areas from 0.1 to 0.4, a community that is in many cases more mature than in secure space and a lot more qualified. Many pirates that would blow your ships are very pleasant to talk to, give advice and help you out to not get blown again. Also regions of low security have local inhabitants taht organize in corporations and alliances(official or not) and use defence channels and have police forces.
If you are interested in low security space, also reducing the chances of you being blown up or making any mistakes due to lack of experience, please do not hesitate to contact me in game.

You may have been in the same corp as him (or whatever it is). I was ratting yesterday and there were 2 people from the same place that I started, they had the green box with the star in it. Our kills were not distinguishable. They were all the same color and I had to look at the wrecks info is a few cases to make sure that I was only taking mine.
Some guy lost his Retriever! I think he looted someone or did something else. When I got back to that field Concord was everywhere! His ship was a wreck and his drones were just floating around. I looked in his cargo and there was some Proxy-something. No, I didn't take it. I'm not crazy. My wreck would have been next to his.
But I'm curious as to how Concord responds to looting. A while ago, I inquired into looting wreck and went and gave it a try. Concord never showed up in a field. But they blew me to pieces when I left the station, or at least I think it was them. But yesterday someone looted one of my wrecks while I was fighting and no one showed up then either. What's the deal with that?

Ahh.. ok gotcha on the color. Same corp, not necessarily my wrecks!
Rina Shanu, think I will contact for more low-sec info, as soon as a get a few more ISK. If not I'll be flying my n00b ship again.
:-)
Thanks for the replies! Doomicon ubernoob & neutral w/o a care!

They don't.
Stealing from a can that doesn't belong to you triggers can flagging. When you're can flagged, the owner of the can and their player corp can shoot you for 15 minutes. You cannot fire on them first without being concorded. You may return fire on whoever shoots at you with no problem.
When you stole something then undocked, you probably met the owner, who promptly fried you.

Edited by: Jonak on 16/01/2007 01:02:54 So someone could loot all the cans they want and then still leave the system without concord do anything? Or will they be attacked at the jump gate?
Oh! An what if I warp lock him? Will concord show up then if we are in 0.5-0.8 space?

To Jonak:
Concord only responds to Global Criminal aggression and criminals (-5) in high security space. Theft, attacking thief, and returning fire do not trigger global criminal aggression. Those three actions are solely between the two parties, and in the case of theft, corporation.

Note that, for whatever reason, you will be flagged as a criminal for SHOOTING someone else's wreck, and CONCORD will respond promptly....

Why would someone shoot a wreck?
What about warp locking the bandit? Or salvaging someones wreck that has been emptied?

1. Denial of items or mistakes.
2 and 3. Anything that doesn't involve unaggressed aggression cannot trigger global criminal aggression. Salvaging does not trigger any aggression or flagging whatsoever.

To the OP: The other possibility is that the guy who locked you was trying to get you to shoot at him so that you would get killed by concord. I know this sounds silly, but there are quite a few people who like to do this.
