Hi capsuleers,
Team Psycho Sisters are gearing up to get this Beta Map feature complete and formalize its replacement of the current map. To do this, we need to make sure that weGÇÖre hitting our goals:
-Make aesthetic improvements to the map -Retains existing functionality of old map (feature parity) -Contains QoL (Quality of Life) improvements where possible
Please read the full post before commenting, even though itGÇÖs long!
We feel like the aesthetic qualities of the Beta map are in a pretty good place. What we are mostly looking to focus on right now is bringing the functionality up to par with the old map. The area we have identified as needing the most work is statistic visualization, but there are of course other areas, so we turn to you for guidance!
To keep the feedback structured and workable, I am going to request that you respond to this post in a certain format. If you elect not to use this format, I can give no guarantee that your post will be read or fully understood. If this seems harsh, know that we have very little time at the moment to comb through feedback and so being able to identify, at a glance, the key areas we need to work on is vital to continue our development velocity.
We are primarily focused on the missing functionality, but also are accepting Quality of Life improvement suggestions for now. Nothing that would require a whole new feature, just small tweaks we can make to make your lives easier. Please try to keep requests for toggling features to a minimum though, as these add testing complexity to crazy levels sometimes.
The format is thus:
Missing Functionality
- Bullet pointed list
- One piece of missing functionality per bullet point
- For bonus points, include use case(s), preferably italicized, especially for niche areas of functionality that might not be immediately obvious
- Extra bonus points for relevant annotated screenshots!
Quality of Life Improvement Requests
- Bullet pointed list
- One improvement per bullet point
- Must contain (preferably italicized) use cases or will likely not be actioned on
Example Post
Missing Functionality
Quality of Life
- Planetary Interaction resource scanning style slider to set your min and max of a scale
- As a player, I can use this to filter out noise of trade and transit hubs when looking at Average Pilots in Space, Pilots docked, etc.

One important point of note - unlike previous threads where we've courted feedback, it is unlikely that every response made in this thread will get a reply. That being said, please trust that we are reading all of the posts presented as we asked, and that feedback will be taken on board and discussed internally, it's just a time constraint thing.

my eveclient freezes and hangs for few minutes whe using beta map. i dont like this idea perhaps if would be possible to merge probe scanning window with map window this could work but otherwise no
my negative feedback - functionality of new map is terrible. i want keep the flattened map and 3d map makes evrything complicated - probe window cannot be merged with beta map window so i cant control probes effectively . have to switch window evrytime i reposition probes - lags lags lags the new map makes sort of disruption which cause my client to freeze and makes game unplayable for minute or two
solution - trash beta map . apply the functions of beta map to old map. keep it functionality but throw in the fixed features. currently map is more complicating probing especially in wormhole |

edit: I'd love to give you more valuable feedback, but while it performs so poorly, that really isn't something that is possible, becasue no amount of new features or refinements will make it usable.
I had the same issue, getting 1 fps while zoomed in but this patch seems to have fixed it. |

Thanks for following formatting rules! Unfortunately, this isn't the scanning/solar system map I'm talking about in this thread. It's the Beta star map

Quality of Life:
- Add 'Favorites' section before 'Recent' section in 'Color by' filters.
- As pilot I have several favorites in those filters: my fleet members, systems with most kills, systems with most jumps, etc. I like to have quick access to them, but 'Recent' is not usable for this because firstly it's too short, and secondly it gets quickly garbaged when I have to do specific search with more rare filters. Sometimes I have to do this. So separate list of 'favorites' and ability to 'star' any filter could be helpful.

Missing Functionality:
- On the old solar system map, when you warp away from a wormhole without bookmarking it, it marks where the wormhole was. Now it doesn't mark the wormhole, so if I forget to bookmark I have to scan down an extra sig.
- The map lags like hell with personal and corporate locations enabled
- There's an issue where the selected item window did not work while the scanning interface was open (this may have been fixed since yesterday, haven't checked)
- Does this thread cover dscan? The new dscan window doesn't show which overview preset I have selected. It also changes the preset every time I type a number to try and change the dscan range.
QoL:
- Region names are not visible on the map while fully zoomed out
- There's no easy-to-use flatten mode - you can still rotate it and mess up the orientation
- When I open the world map it defaults to my home system or my last viewed location, rather than my present location

Quality of Life Improvement Requests:
- Have a way to narrow your field of view to "7 jumps out" as a slider or numerical input to create filtered "localized" maps centered around your current location. Additional filters such as jumps per hour, kills and pods, or service data can be more relevant. These localized filtered maps can help with intel and FC'ing

Quality of Life
- Increase how close the zoom-in works at the solar system level, to a range where individual moons around a planet can be readily distinguished.
- Being able to verify the location of POSes, or set off grid bookmarks between moons (now that simply flying off grid is non-trivial) is far easier when full zoom allows you to see the geometry of moons/stations at the same planet relative to each other. New map does not zoom as close as the old.
- Move the text (name) popups farther away from the object to avoid covering up nearby objects, or allow them to be turned off/modified with settings.
- This is actually tied into the previous problem. Mouseover a station at full zoom and the name popup probably blocks off half the moons at that planet, even worse if you get 3+ name popups at once. (I will note that this is currently a problem with the UI in many places, multiple objects close together end up unable to be seen because of the popup's close proximity).

Missing functionality If you use the beta map in full screen, the search bar doesn't take priority over other windows, so my overview obscures it. Would be much nicer if it was floating, or if it was directly under the other map options at the top.

Quality of Life Improvement Requests:
in abstract view, the size of the solar system is too big compared to distances between stars, which can be very confusing when waypoint-pathing, especially for newer players, because the path doesn't end at the star but at the stargate. For larger or more populated systems this creates a lot of clutter as there may be 4-5 other stars inside the depiction of the solar system. Also this can make "current location" seem closer to some other system than the solar system you're actually in. Not to mention this makes the "current location" shift around in relation to the universe as you zoom in. I love how you can zoom from universe view into the solar system, but that functionality would still be there and as useful (which is rarely) if one had to zoom in more for the solar system depiction to become evident. Best would be if at a lower zoom level (e.g. seeing more than current constellation) the solar system view would disappear and your current system would be only the star with pathing starting from the center |

Ha this is the one singular reason i will never use the beta map and the first client config setting i disable when i login to eve.
Until it's capable of showing jump ranges and Not mouse scrolling between solar system and star map mode the "new" map is of no use to me whatsoever.
Don't fix what isn't broken. the current in game eve map accomplishes all the purposes it needs to and 80% of the eve playerbase just need to disable the "beta map" to have a functional map that only serves to appeal to the vanity of those trying to replace it.
CCP Goliath your a cool dude but lets do everyone playing eve a favor this time? just remove these "beta" features from eve and allow everyone to use what works instead of what has been a year or more long failed science experiment. |

The format is thus:
Missing Functionality [list] Statistics are harder to read like currently active players/jumps/so on example in the screenshot. Average_Pilots_in_Space When zoomed out the map is hard to read in 3d and flat. Screenshot shows the example. This is with highest settings possible. Non the less, it-¦s hard to see the connections between systems. Security status seems to be the best way to actually see something on the map. Beta_Map
Quality of Life Improvement Requests [list] Create a filter that allows players to combine several things. Up to 3 would be ideal to make the map data really useful. Until now I put my data into a separate matrix to combine the stuff for useful data. For example Average pilots in space+security status+jumps. This allows me to find roaming gangs easier. Because one piece of the data wont tell me anything useful. Another example would be: Jumps/hour+ships destroyed+pods destroyed. Combine these in a pipe system and look on two connecting gates and you will be able to figure out potential gatecamps. This is all possible right now but you need to combine all the data by yourself, put up a matrix and slowly work through space. When I could create filters the whole switching filter things becomes obsolete leading into a huge QoL. The above examples are just two of many and everyone who is slightly familiar with database stuff will agree I guess. There are so many lovely combinations one can use and there are some third party tools or in my case a collection of self made matrix sheets that will do the job but everytime I think "WHY OH WHY I have to switch between filters all the time to get a single useful data out of the sheer mass of data available to me?
Last but not least, thanks for the thread. :) |

Quality of Life
-Jumps lines between star systems are too faint unless zoomed in to the constellation.
-Star System nodes are difficult to see unless some "balloon" stat (e.g. # of active pilots in space) is selected.
-Would be nice if jump lines could be colorized according to jump type like the old map (i.e. blue: local constellation, red: new constellation, purple: new region). Currently, for example, if colorizing systems based on security status: when in nullsec the new map just looks like a bunch of red lines connecting red dots.
-I would like the ability to toggle whether the solar system map is super-imposed over the current system I'm in. |

something what the old map had but the new map does not: if i have the map open and select something on the overview it is also marked/selected on the map. This used to allow me to quickly see which plex sizes are where in the system and whats around them for example.
how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Missing Functionality:
-map: change the offset of the map center with the offset you can select in the display and graphics options ("Ship View Camera Settings) this is annoying for me because my EVE-Client is stretched over two screens when I do exploration. This splits the map in half with the new map, while in the old map it was movet to the side when an offset was chosen. also when zooming, it still uses the middle of the window, not the currently selected window or the position of the cursor
- map: in fullscreen mode, it is easy for the map menu to be covered by windows. With the number of windows open in the client during exploration (local chat, second chat window, probe scanner, dscan, overview, hacking window, selected item, drone bay, it can be hard to change an existing layout. It would be nice if the menu could be detached form the map, since it isn't to hard to find some space on the screen for it, just not necessartily where it is by default.
- probe scanner window: a star map button in the probe scanner window would make switching between the two maps easier.
Quality of life:
- map: the stars in the background are confusing, when the map in the foreground is relatively faint and fuzzy, removing them would make for a clearer picture, both in the star and system map.
- map: it is hard to see the connections between systems at times, since the lines are faint and fuzzy.
- map: in the abstract star map layout, it would be nice if the map was locked , and couldn't be rotated or angled. since that adds no functionality (zoom and move left, right, up, down still should be enabled)
-probe scanner window: the thin line with their strong colors can be straining the eyes when looking at them for a while. the way this was solved in the old map, while not looking as good was easier to focus on and look at. also it is a bit hard to tell at a glance which line belongs to which siganture.
-map: for some filters (like Average pilots in space in the last 30 minutes or Jumps in the last hour, etc.) it is hard (impossible) to tell the difference between for example 1 pilot and 10 pilots in system, or 100 jumps and 10. for exploration, this can make a big difference and with the different color scheme used in the old map it was much easier to see. Also in the new map, systems that don't have pilots in the or have no jump are almost invisible, while they are exactly where i want to go when i explore. IN these settings the connections between systems are very faint and the background is more prominent than they are. this desperately needs some fixing, because it severely hinders pilots fomr planning journeys in the in game map.
- probe scanner window: switching between anomalies shown and hidden takes an extra klick now. IDK if this is something other pilots use a lot but for me it is annoying, since i turn them on and off during explo trips when i'm looking for ghost sites.
- map: the dscan and scanner probe spheres have unnecessary fluff textures that are confusing, especially when combined with a large number of signatures.
- dscan: the name of the selected preset should be shown, so you don't have to scroll through the list to check. also adding a no preset selectedv option would be great.
all in all, due to some issues (like the visibility issues with some filters in the map, the background, the map not getting the offset...) I don't think the map is ready to fully replace the old one, but significant improvements have been made from the first iteration, so not all is lost :)

Quality of Life Improvement:
- Average Pilots in Space in the Last 30 Minutes is harder to use because of point scaling and colour choices - point size could be transformed by an exponent or other option to make the distinction greater, range of brightnesses of colours used could be widened to make it easier for colourblind players to get the important information from the map.
- I use the old map to plot courses through space that look for certain sized system populations - in the old map these scale from very small to very large with a great deal of granularity. In the new map the size of this marker for the smallest case of 1 person in space is the size of a marker that in the old map would be many tens of people. The colour graduation that goes with this is quite difficult for myself as a colourblind player to make out. In short I find it very difficult to discern very sparsely populated space from busier space in the new map. In addition seeing the plotted route with this overlay is hard when zoomed out.

My current activity scope: PVE player / hisec/lowsec ratting / exploration, mainly in nullsec / hauling
Missing Functionality
- The biggest issue: lines transparency and star sizes. New map is hard to read lines-wise compared to the old map. https://imgur.com/a/Y9K5H Star dots mix up with the stars on the background image. ItGÇÖs hard to read the constellation structure and estimate its density. And what does the dashed line mean anyway?
- Security status: dim lines make it harder to read the region/constellation structure and determine your surroundings. https://imgur.com/a/0d4Ed I messed up with the scale on screenshot, but zooming in the new map doesnGÇÖt help much.
- Selected system: when zoomed out, its structure mixes up with the stars/lines behind, see screenshot from previous point.
- Names of systems surrounding selected system: they are absent and appear only in a very zoomed in state, and they are hard to read. Regarding the absence of names, see screenshot from two points above.
- Statistics display: in addition to my original post (hi, vocal_tsunami is me). https://imgur.com/a/RPrJ3 Current system makes hard to differentiate systems between each other unless they have the much higher value of the selected metric than the rest of the map. I think that all the statistics you have available has to be re-checked in terms how you intend to display it. E.g. jumps as heatmap work fine, because jumps happen all the time, but active pilots donGÇÖt need that range of color coding because itGÇÖs far less dynamic metric than jumps. And so on. Just go through every metric and approach them from usersGÇÖ perspective, pretty please.
- Highlighting gates that youGÇÖre going to jump through is missing from the new map. Locating the gate by the autopilot line sticking out of it is extremely confusing. https://imgur.com/a/7Ye1f
- Solar system view: the background of the new map is too bright or too noisy to be able to navigate around the solar system. New scanning map is more suited for that, but new scanning map doesnGÇÖt have the autopilot gate highlighting too. https://imgur.com/a/kTFPL However, static images donGÇÖt represent how confusing it feels when you rotate the map around, zoom in/out etc.
- GÇ£You are hereGÇ¥ is barely recognizable and is confused between the highlighted (glowing) system, unlike the old map. Selected system is brigher than GÇ£youGÇÖre hereGÇ¥ marker and distracts the eye too much. https://imgur.com/zm7dAyw
- When I pick a metric to display, when I select the system (left-click on it) I cannot hover cursor over selected system and see itGÇÖs statistics. I can only see the statistics on hovering unselected systems. (Probably because the selected system switches to solar system view, but I donGÇÖt think thatGÇÖs a valid reason to not display statistics for it.)
Quality of Life Improvement Requests
- Auto-plotting the way to the selected system becomes undistinguishable at a quick glance from the autopilot course, and the animation is irritating when it mixes up with other visuals. https://imgur.com/FsVFtuo Use case: plotting your course becomes harder if you misclick someting along your route and will see another route line spawning to it.
- Pirate and police ships destroyed in the last hour. You give that information in API, but you donGÇÖt show it on the map. Why? Use case: detecting region activity in the last hour, as on Dotlan/EveEye.
- (probably will never happen but still) Show statistics for selected metric for a selected system in retrospective: add charts of metrics. Possible views: aggregated statistics of average metric value by hour of the day, day of the week for the last month; chronological chart of selected metric by hour for the last 24 hours, by day for the last week. Use case: determine how safe it is to be in this system right now, judging by historical data of metrics.
Very personal remarks
IGÇÖve been using the new map for the last 6 weeks or so. I even started to get used to its quirks, when you rolled out yellow circles on it this week. It may sound dramatic, but you actually broke my routine interaction with the new map for no obvious reason. I canGÇÖt analyze and plan my routes from it now at all. As a user of this interface, it makes me quite frustrated. I donGÇÖt know why this was allowed to be released like this.
I concur with Aiken Paru on his comment about function vs. form. I know first-hand that designing complex user interfaces is hard. Especially when your userbase can throw a riot in Jita over something they donGÇÖt like. But youGÇÖre building an interface, and interface is an instrument to get input from user and provide feedback to him. Feedback is what weGÇÖre missing in the new map compared to the old one. As a player, and interface user, I just want to see the pragmatic approach to designing the tools you hand to me. Same notion applies to the new scanning map.
Wish you productive iterating and hope to see some fresh tweaks on Sisi soon!
Thank you.

Missing Functionality
- When the map in docked in Fullscreen mode, it does not honour the Camera Center option from the Display & Graphics options. This also applies to the new probe scanning map.
- Use case: In a dual monitor setup, when using one screen as primary and one as a side-screen, it is difficult to use the map in Fullscreen mode as it will be centred on the screen split. This means mouse wheel zoom does not behave as you would expect.

QoL:
- Remove or let us turn off the zooming from star map to local system map; especially remove the scaling to the local system
- also remove all the icons in local systems (or let us toggle it off)
- let us make it flat (2d) not semi-flattened
- try to navigate with the map; you got it down if you go to a random system and can read all gates it has in less than 2 seconds

I have a suggestion on the dscan cone. Instead of actually highlighting the cone itself, why not put the map into a scanning mode where only objects within the cone are highlighted brightly and everything else is greyed down with lower contrast. That way an actual visual cone will be unnecessary.
Then you don't even need a graphic for the cone, because objects themselves will indicate that it is pointed at them.

I can't speak for everyone but I'll explain why I don't use the new map, mostly I haven't had time to learn it.
Feature
- No option to change colour/transparency of lines (similar issue to the probing colour issues, everything looks the same)
- No option to add/remove labels, I can't see the systems my route will take me through at a glance
- Can't select 'solar system' view through map? requires probe window.
Quality of life
- Too much noise on the beta map (see features and points below).
- Viewing the current system I am in shows me things I don't care about in a system view. Around 30 green lines and 17 systems in the background. (need to use probe scanner to access the map that I find useful).
- Viewing my route to a destination doesn't show me the names of systems I am passing through.
- I can't distinguish my route from the random green lines everywhere easily.
- Statistics aren't as good (mentioned in original post).
- Map is blurry when zoomed out.
- Have to use probe window and access the map through there if I want to see the solar system view.
The bottom line is, If I use the beta map I take longer to achieve the same result, which usually means targets fleeing, time between the things I enjoy doing increasing etc. That doesn't mean there aren't some amazing features in the beta map, it just makes me a worse eve player. |

QoF:
-Dscan sphere / cone should be a different color than the probe spheres.
In the current state scanning an area where you happen to be can be confusing and hard on the eyes due to the probe and dscan spheres being the same color
-Fast toggle on / off for Dscan sphere and cone.
]If I'm combat scanning a target I like the most relevant information present with little distractions.
-Window stacking isn't that optimal when the map covers up your overview, dscan and probe window if made large on your screen. Staying with the theme of the old map where once toggled your overview and probe windows are present is much better and makes for significantly faster scanning.
-Signature scanned strength is less obvious now that the green bar is tiny and below the sig.
I find the change to the sig scanned percent to be harder to read and almost confusing at times if you're going fast. I'd like to see this feature returned to it's old state where the whole sig ID and bar would will with green the more you scanned it.
MF:
-Wormholes do not show up in space on the new map.
This is an issue if one forgets to bookmark the return / entrance to a wormhole and there are lots of sigs in that system as you can no longer simply put probes over the WH symbol and one shot the hole
-Enlarging and reducing the probe spread size is sluggish and sometimes downright will not let you. It is as if there is a very small sweet spot.
I've found moving my probes in space and changing they're size is a very glitchy and frustrating at times. Some times I cannot change the probe size period without altering my camera view and even then it is as if there is a very small sweet spot.
Over all I like the new map but it isn't optimized currently to be easy to use both for information gathering and scanning. In it's current state I simply cannot use it as a fast scanner as it really slows me down. |

Confirming as others have alluded;
-trying to find people in space is harder on the new map; the statistics to see average pilots in space and/or those docked/active are not very distinguishable. If one person is in space or active, it has nearly the same shade as 2....or 3..... It does seem that 5 is slightly more noticeable but the old map is superior in this regard. The same problem exists for other statistics....I dont use it but the 'jobs started in the last 24 hours' simply looks like a bunch of yellow circles. I have to hover over each one to actually gain insight into the volume. 1 job looks identical to 56 jobs, for instance. Different colors and/or size of circles are needed. Something to differentiate the amount of stuff happening in a system. Having to hover over 50 systems is annoying.
-while not as functional, the new map is pretty
-when trying to change statistics, the 'popup' performance is relatively annoying as it minimizes after a certain time. If I am spending time researching the map, I would like the options to switch views to not minimize (or at least remain open longer). In this sense, beauty is taking too much influence from functionality. On the old map, the options are persistent.
-a plain black background (or option for it) would be helpful....the stars look nice but once again, it affects the ease of researching
-maybe I am a fool but I simply dont understand how "group" is helpful in any way (by constellation or region). Dotlan does this better and is more usable. It looks kinda cool but once again, I dont understand how/what it could be used for.

Quality of Life:
- Make the visibility between statistical differences like number of avg # of Pilots in Space more defined. Currently there is quick glancing at this map to determine between 1 pilot and 10 pilots in space. The current map much better a highlighting the differences in the heat map. Image linked below.
The map looks pretty and all but if you're looking for populated systems you have to tooltip over everything to show the pilot numbers. There is literally no visible difference between 1 pilot in space and 10 that I've seen. Heat bloom that again like the old map to bring the parity back.
http://imgur.com/EKs3TAA
- Focus current location function in wormholes still shows a shrunken window with in a full screen view. This has existed (and been reported as a concern) since the initial roll out of the beta map.
Example: http://imgur.com/vDSSmfc
Functionality/QoL:
- Make the tab function the same as it does in the out of map view to collapse windows. If you are full screen and you have an overview on the right hand side the close button is not available in Focus current location to take you back to the regular map.
- PLEASE give the map window the ability to roll up in floating view just like if we double click chat/overview/any other functional window in game
- Seperate the map controls so they aren't hidden at the top of the map. If you have chat windows or browser pinned you have to constantly shuffle windows to access these.

Missing Funtionality
- the new map does not show the lines between systems when in 'pilots in space in last 30 mins view'.
- In other views you can see connecting lines but there is no indication of what system is which.
- For a map to be useful it must show the connecting systems with system names and connecting lines in a reasonable radius (4-5 jumps) around the selected system
- When I create a route I can not see the system names on the route.
I want to create a route following the populated systems and I want to be able to see what the system names are along that route and see what systems branch off the route systems (including there names) I am a wormholer and need to create a efficent route for a null roam and see what alternative systems I could jump into along the route
- New Map Example of route and 'pilots in space last 30 mins' with new map. - Its completely devoid of any useful information like system names or connecting lines. Its not remotely useable..
- Old Map Example of route and 'pilots in space last 30 mins' with old map - I can see what the system names are and see the connecting lines.
Quality of Life Improvments
- On 90% font the text and system connection lines are very hard to see. Please make sure the map scales with the font.

Missing Functionality
- EBR-42872 - When Beta Map is Fullscreen and you click Focus Current Location while in a wormhole, the system pops up in a window that is not fullscreen (takes up 2/3 of the screen), and the window is forced behind all other windows, obscuring the close button. Example: http://i.imgur.com/WNdk2Xc.png
- Fullscreen Beta Map showing New Eden obscures Search "Magnifying Glass" behind Overview or Selected Items window.
- Missing feature parity for Jump Range Visualization and Sovereignty Filter. Both of these were mentioned in the original devblogfrom December 2014 as "will be dealing with as soon as possible". Link: https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/a-map-to-treasure/
- Floating Beta Map does not minimize when CTRL+TAB -> Hide Windows is Selected. Use Case: When quickly minimizing all windows to take screenshots, or fixing windows that are partially out of screen, this window will block view.
- Floating Beta Map is not an included window in CTRL+Tab window objects to minimize/open.
- Floating Beta Map window does not obey other window behavior to minimize to just the window bar when double clicked. Use Case: Having the Map open at the top of screen, and being able to double click it to quickly open or minimize it to/from the title bar only. Only being able to Dock Left/Right is not sufficient.
- Unable to remotely search for W-Space systems by J-Code/Locus, including Thera. Thera is viewable by searching and
selecting a station, but not the system itself. Use Case: Looking at systems in a wormhole chain to view system size, planet orientation, and empty space; see where bookmarks are, check planets for PI, check sun type, etc.
Quality of Life Improvements
- The Focus Current Location function needs a lot of work to make it more graceful in W-Space. The way the window pops up to view the solar system is jarring and intrusive, completely against the flow of the Beta Map when zooming into a system in New Eden. I highlighted other problems with the way this window works above.
- The Cynosural Field statistic needs balancing. The Cynosural Field Generator (Orange) heat bloom circle for 1 in system is gigantic, actually larger than a normal Cynosural Field (Blue), or if there is a Generator AND and active Cyno in system (Red). Example: http://i.imgur.com/KMbiost.png
- Heat Blooms overlap very easily when large, making viewing data absolutely impossible. The Cynosural Fields statistic is again a good example of this, especially when zoomed out. Image: http://i.imgur.com/s3uWqCY.jpg
- Considerably reduce the circle heat bloom for any "1 in system" statistic. The solar system should light up to show it, but not drown out surrounding systems. This is especially important when searching from a high level zoomed out for system activity for locations to roam to for PVP. I primarily use the "Average Pilots in Space in the Last 30 Minutes", and "Number of Pilots Docked and Currently Active" statistics. Old Map Example: http://i.imgur.com/v7vG75I.png vs New Map Example: http://i.imgur.com/EFrtGeg.png
- Heat bloom differentiation needs to be a lot easier to tell the difference from 1 and 2 in system, 1 and 5 in system, 1 and 10 in system, 1 and 20 in system, etc. There is a very slight color change as there are more pilots in system, but the circle doesn't grow a lot. From a high level it is very difficult to differentiate the statistics. For example when looking at pilots in space, these two systems side by side look almost identical. Example 1: http://i.imgur.com/WID5sAC.png Example 2: http://i.imgur.com/CMQ5zgA.png

TIghten that up and I'll be happy.
Agree. Also, as others have suggested the ability to turn off the background would allow my tired eyes to read this better.
Other Quality of Life:
- After spinning the map around, I want a way to quickly reset the map. I love the focus on current location, but another button to reset true north and return the map to a zero tilt/spin view.
- For bonus points, another button would allow me to save my current zoom level, map tilt, and maybe even star color, line preferences as a default and snap back to it.
- The search icon is set all by itself in the opposite corner of everything else. I just now found it, gah. Recommend moving it over with the rest of the icons.

Pretty much exactly what I wanted to say.
The colours look great in a stylish and minimalistic way - but totally useless to actually get any information from.
Fix - provide an option to switch from sexy and stylish to 'in your face' primary colours. |

I'm sorry to intervein, but i think he meant almost the same i wanted to talk about.
- Local system view on the global star map can be very intrusive and makes difficult to plan the route on-the-fly. Look at this case:
1. I'm in system A and want to jump into near system B through the jumpgate. I see that system B has 3 connections (lines) with other systems as well. 2. I jump through the gate and local system view (on the global map) changes to the system B also messing the connection lines to adjacent systems due to stargates reposition on local map making it realy difficult to find out where to jump next.
I want to say that when i'm in system A i can see connections pattern for system B and when i jump to B the connection point are moved around and connections pattern became different. Sometimes, when connected systems are close to local system they are hard to spot. This makes such kind of navigation very unferiendly.
Basicaly i want to be able to use global map without the detailed local system view. I don't need local system content i just want to see the gate connections pattern for a nearby stars and be able to easily jump in them.
I've searched all of the interface and wasn't been able to find any option that might switch off local view. Sorry if i missed it.
PS: i can use Select constellation feature to have the similar effect but it feels a bit hacky as i can select the system and must select constellation again to remove local view.

- When i have selected system on global map and then use Select constellation the constellation gets selected ok, but selected system had all local content dissapeared while gate connection point are still pointing on (invisible now) gates instead of the star. I expect selected system flush to work in this case as if i select another system so connection points are reset to point to the star.

- Spend the time on redoing the UI on planetary interaction.
- Start working on the next structures

There are a few elements of the beta map that I do like such as the ability to resize the map and still focus on what's going on in the background and the legibility of scanned sigs and bookmarks which makes it easy for me to fill in siggy after scanning a bunch of sigs in a go instead of filling it one after the other. With this change, I can easily identify the scanned sigs I have attached to certain bookmarks. |

- dimming everything around on zoom kills this map's functionality. This is literally anit-map feature. The longer explanation is here. The shorter example from that post, presenting the same area of space:
new map: http://imgur.com/UKRSzhp old map: http://imgur.com/IFzYeGo
Which one would you prefer to use in practice ?
As mentioned in the longer post, the 3d view suffers much more from this than abstract view. Mixed with other features - extra dimming everything more than 2 jumps away, more quiet coloring options (such as ships destroyed in last hour) - and you end with seeing almost nothing
- labels are near unreadable - on further zoom they are hidden, on closer zoom they fall into the same issue as above
- there's no way to control line's color; they are now dilligently interpolating from one star's color to another and there's nothing we can do about it
- toggle for black background, seriously ....
- toggle for turning off/squeezing/anything_similar merged solar map (similar post here)

- Local system view that is accessible from the Probe scanner (not sure if it even applicable for this thread). Please make the red signature small dots more colorful because they're too dim and blending with the other dark stuff on the map (background for example). It is VERY hard for a slightly colorblind person like me to find them.
- When i mouse over the signature in the list the red dot becomes lighter and is well visible on the map. I prefer this color to be the default for unhighlighted signature. And please make it even more lighter or bigger when i mouse over the signature in the list. Please help colorblind persons like me, thanks :)
- Please take a look at my previous post, i've corrected it a bit.
