ok, I just started my salvaging career, and just have the skill at level 1, and a Salvager 1 unit, but my success rate so far has been 0.
5 cruisers salvaged 16 frigates salvaged 0 cool stuff garnished.
Someone please tell me this gets better as your skills improve!

Hey, I'd like to know as well. Post back if salvaging improves as you raise your skills in this area.

The skill salvaging (and salvage tackle rig) increase the rate of salvage success. Even getting 0 items is a success wich means you'll less "failed to salave at this time" messages. Getting more items is just chance based as is wrecks that contain actual loot.

Cruisers and frigates rarely drop any salvage. Heck, I rat in 0.0 and I would say 20% of Battleship wrecks don't even drop anything. Previous posters are correct, the salvaging skill only speeds up the process, it doesn't give more success. There's a rig out there that gives a 10% yield to salvaging, which is the only way that I know of to improve your success/quantity salvaged.
So in short, I would say that it's because small ships rarely drop anything. Not until you start killing BCs or BS will you have any degree of regular success.
I thought since this game is called Eve that I'd play a female character. Is that a good enough excuse for a guy? |

your salvage doesn't rely on your skill to salvage solely... mercenary and drones never drop rig-components... and some other factions from more and various... drops are faction-based

Salvage is random. You are perhaps at the bottom of the probability curve. If this were not so, the universe as we know it would not exist.
Activate your salvage module, and there is a percentage chance that it will work. You can improve this chance with the Salvage skill, but Salvage V seems to be around 50%. I have this vague suspicion that there is another factor in there, as 'named' wrecks seem to be more resistant to scanning.
If you get no success, keep going and you get another die roll. Eventually you will succeed and discover if there is anything to salvage which depends on another, separate die roll. In my experience, ordinary lvl 1 and lvl 2 missions, most wrecks have salvageable components.

Mordus, Mercs, Drones, Buildings, Faction Navies, Thukker, Khanid, EoM.
Those don't drop any salvage at all. Basically the rule of thumb has been that only factions that have belt pirates will drop salvage.
Serpentis, BloodRaider, Guristas and so forth.

Just for future notice, this is no longer true. A recent patch made these drop salvage. ----- CCP: Please make ship loot to drop in a can next to the wrecks. |

I was one of the first that started salvaging.
I went through Serpentis Deadspace center 1/10 and 3/10, more than once.... So far I've earned something like 300mil.
Although the prices for salvage material arent what they once were... To many is Salvaging nowdays, better to build rigs and sell
