Back when I was betatesting the apalling mess that was Earth and Beyond, someone mentioned EVE in the forums. I did some Googling, found the nearly barren at the time public EVE site, and eventually stumbled on that Angelice trailer (downloadable here still in the video section).
Was a done deal for me after watching that. My God.

Got pointed to it while playing Earth and Beyond, but at launch the game sucked so badly due to bugginess and lack of content that I laughed and went back to Earth and Beyond.
Oh have things changed since then

Hmm, i read a short infoclip in a magazine, with a picture.
Then i used trustworthy Google, got me here. Started a 14days trial. Did not play more than that the first time, let the impressions sink. Now, 4 months later, i am a full time subscriber. into my second month

I was also beta testing E&B in 2002 when I heard about EVE. I was fortunate to be able to join the EVE beta test and the rest is history...

I always wanted a mmo space game with pretty graphics, played a bit of freelancer online, but it wasnt even close to what I'd like to see. Then a buddy told me that there was some big space mmo he read about. I downloaded the trial and never looked back .

There was an follow-up article in PCGamer UK about EVE Castor expansion (I think it was castor, whichever one introduced intys) and loved the sound of it (although the game turned out to be completely different than the article made it out to be, but it was still awesome in a different way). ___

I got onto a late stage of the Beta but never went onto the retail version (for some reason to this day I cannot understand). I was bored of fantasy mmo's early this year so remembering EVE I downloaded the 14 day trial, did the tutorial and was hooked. Joined a good Corp, Serenity Prime, learned a lot from them and am now in EVE for the long term. _______________________________

I read a chronicle in PC-Gamer (Swedish one) when the game was in Beta. I joined when Eve was in Beta four (i think) and played ever since.
Last day of beta was named "Armageddon" and it was awsome.

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 15/12/2006 16:02:57 I heard about it, thought to play the trial months later while I briefly had access to broadband (last december, at home for christmas), fell in love with the game but couldn't play again until April.
TBH that first week was the best, it's never been as much fun since I actually learned to play 'properly'.
The graphics sucked me in, the gameplay is what's kept me here. ----------

Shattered Galaxy. A lot of the SG faithful now play eve.
Good old Diss Champ (who is dissolve in sg) told us about the game and took us down the "good guy" path in eve. This was extreamly intresting when Einherjar, the so called "BoB" of SG wardeced us, and were kicking our ass in EVE as we were a bunch of 1-2 month old "wulu's" at the time. I guess there was no escape as when we played SG, they repeated the processs. I remember all the flamewars on the SG boards about this at the time.
Snatch, the King of mercs, (known as Istavan Shogustou), on the other hand, was busy recruiting guys for the evil path, and I reckon he got himself a fair few number. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Same. Can't remember exactly how I heard of Eve but played through beta... left about a month after release. Wish I would have stayed.

Funny, I feel the same way about it. Very interesting to see btw how many different stories there are
Oh yeah, I found out about EVE from a clanmate from another game, got a trial and got completely hooked. ____________________________________________ EvE +NLINE - T+TALHELLDEATH SUPPORTER What's missing here? Guess correctly and receive a free cookie. |

I was starting to get bored of DAOC, so was searching through different MMO sites for another fantasy game, and there was an EVE banner on the right side of the screen with a cool looking spaceship on it. I clicked it to check it out and was downloading the trial after wathching a couple movies ^^
My friends in DAOC kept me playing there off and on for a bit, but when the people I spent most of my playtime with decided to leave, that was it. EVE all the way. -=^=-

A fame of his time, MuumiLeader told me about EVE for the first time. Back then I dismissed the game because the website was ugly and couldn't find a d/l link immediatly. Later on I picked it after an old friend who I met when playing Ultima Online told me to try it. You are #27 in queue to see this signature. |

I had two friends playing the game in Uni, whenever we would go to lunch they would always start talking about Eve which annoyed me. I had to play it so I understood something. They introduced me to Eve, I got even more addicted than them. ___

I was looking around for a copy of an old game called Escape Velocity. I came across the EVE site and realized it was practically identical to EV, just in a MMO setting.
I skipped the trial, bought a year subscription, and never looked back

Tried out EVE beta for a few days, but at the time my PC just sucked too badly to play it. I was really intrigued by the game though even the feel of it, but just couldn't get it to play well.
Ended up in EnB as many others, than over to SWG. One day SWG had yet another downtime to fix some bug they were having and I was bored so started looking at other space games. Tried the Freelancer demo which was kind of cool, even reinstalled my old Privateer and Independence War II games. There was maybe 30 minutes left till SWG was gonna be back up and I remembered EVE again.
Headed over to the EVE website and started poking around. The Ruthless PDF was featured at the time. So I thought I'd read that while waiting. I got about one chapter in and started to download the EVE client. This game sounded awesome. Read a few more chapters of Ruthless and was just stunned. By the time I got to the "Cap'n, better close her eyes now" part I was hooked! Finished up the story, loaded up a trial account and tried the 'new' EVE.

I was vaguely aware of Eve for a year or so, but I had no Internet connection in my home.
But reading the article on the GHSC affair in PC Gamer UK roughly coincided with me getting Broadband in my flat... After reading that, I didn't even bother with a trial and just jumped straight in. Still playing and my first birthday is looming.
Just a shame I still suck at it |

Stumbled upon it in early 2003, when it was in BETA. I read lots about it and was really taken by the screenshots (I love spacegames :D). Couldnt afford it at first since I was only like 15 then, and it was my first MMORPG so I wasnt used to paying a monthly fee for a game. Later in June/July I finally bought the game, the box, and the fantastic manual! Been playing on and off since then.

Oh yes, Snatch... I still play SG now and then, and I remember doing a few joint-posts with Istvaan about EVE on the SG forums.
