I thought people were here to enjoy the game, not to read stuff like "Grievers!!!111"
(Badly spelt on purpose)
Every day I come on here and see whining this and whining that, grief play etc etc, and am getting sick and fed up of it.
I enjoy the non-consent part of the game, it keeps you on your toes.
For example, I was down in Omist and we heard about a certain player that was a thorn in the side for most alliances down there, Stybbe. Now this guy has a few of my ships on his KB, but one thing I have to say, it could be construed as griefing as what he did, to the uneducated that is. He goes out in a group with his pvp partner Ka-ten and they take down small fleets on their own, rarely logging off after engaging, and for that he has my respect.
Why, when pvp'ers using a small loophole in the game (not exploit or h4xpl017s ) they manage to get someone to attack them in secure space (well more secure) do you whine that he popped your ship. Yes I get upset that I have lost months of work on occasions, but I still play because that is all part of the game, and should I not want to lose so much cash I would not fly the damn ship with those fittings. Also have you thought of using a possible log-in trap (I don't particularly like it but if it works then they [the pvp'er] can whine less about it because they used a loophole on you) you may be able to kill them and make them think twice about attacking you in future.
There are ways and means of stopping people from (or possibly hindering their mission against you) an easy kill, use it. Options are; Friends, lots of friends (almost as good as lots of guns but can be more effective in a well trained group), don't go where the "griefer" can scout you out and destroy your fun, or (I hate to say it) if you want no risk in a solo online rpg, then join wow. It may be more fun for you.
CCP are doing their best and have always done so. They do have their problems, the same as any other game operator, but I do get the distinct impression that they are working hard on it and trying to improve the game for us all, not just for the cash (although that is a big incentive). This game has on a number of occasions been stated to be player driven, what comes with the players when (more or less) in control? PvP of course. Be that you have to find a better trade run for your goods in empire or (god forbid ) low sec, or if you have to fight another player that has stolen something from you (combat).
Please do not whine anymore as I can't stand the damn cheese around here.
I have no problem with standard well laid out points of view and possible improvents to the game, but things like "FFS CCP, I R TEH 1337 PWNZOR IN MISSIONS AND MY LIFE SHUD BE E4S1ER THEN TH15 CUZ I PAI 15$ A MUNTH AMD DADDY SAIS IT IS MINE!!11111!!", really lose points with the credibility factor I have/had for these boards.
I am sure the average IQ of the players has sunk in the last few weeks /months, I hate it.
Please restore my confidence in the playerbase, I don't want to play game with 1337 kiddies, rather young adults (girls fine too ).
Thank you.

They are just wasting time.
I think CCP is smart enough not to let their game die, due to whinny little forum posters.
SWG is a prime example.

I sincerly hope you are right there. I am kinda new to the mmorpg scene, eve is the only mmorpg I have ever played and as such am T+TALLY biased towards it. I love this game more than any other game I have yet played. I don't want to see it ruined.

I really don't think you have any worries.
CCP is a smart company, who started out very small and is quickly growing to become a household name.
The problem in the other ruined MMOs (there are a few, I can't remember them atm) is that there were suits, who knew nothing about games that controlled the show. Where as CCP doesn't have a problem with this, the owners are the gamers and the geeks, not just some ***** who talked himself into a higher up position showing off his degrees or started throwing investment money around that he made from selling his daddy's tomato farm.

Aye, thats the impression I certainly got, and am happy CCP have a different view than the unmentionable companies here.
I am sure CCP will do anything and everything they can but as we all know public opinion "can" change minds regardless of the resolve. I am not saying they will but it may happen and it would be a truly sad day if it were to happen.

That's what ruins MMOs.
1) Forums are not public opinion. You got 150,000 people playing this game. There are what... a few hundred on the forums?
2) Jim Bob from Imarriedmysister, Kentucky doesn't know jack about game mechanics. All he knows is that he got mad because he was doing something and someone ganked him.

Most crying about griefing goes is about the new I WIN button for griefers when they fly into a mission and aggro the room leaving u warpscrambled and without a chance.
Hasnt happend to me but how would like it if i met u for an engagement and pressed a button and 50 "insert faction here" rats warp in starting to attack you and if u attack me concord warps in and attack ur ship.
This is what is happening to alot of mission runners in my oppinion it's an I-Win button and should therefor be removed

Hmmm. Wrong semantics. Sorry bud.
Ok if I rephrase my point; The whiners could change the game for the worse if they have a big enough voice and do it enough. Hopefully not though.
Sorry about that kinda sleepy still, it is sunday morning where I am.

That's definitively a problem then. I don't run missions and I'm not a mission ganker... so I really haven't been following those threads since the OP is usually 3.5 pages long.
I don't mind reading, but one of the draw backs of playing an intelligent game is some of these farts are long winded SoBs.

Ok, now that is something I can relate to, but all I would say is ( if possible) warp out immedietly, try and leave the "piwat" to the mission and when the rats are all dead then just collect the reward (unless it is a collect x from x mission in which case just cancel it).
Yes it is undesireable but there isn't much one can do in that situation. Perhaps try finding an out of the way low sec system where you can fire back on them. Try scrambling them and let the rats take care of them.
I wouldn't like it and now I realise it is a problem but screaming will not help you.
Perhaps talking about it like a Human Being would get you further.

I don't know enough about game mechanics but would it be possible in a certain situation for CCP to have only war targets scannable in empire space?
Just an idea.....

Well this guy killed me a couple of times using his Astarte and it was the reason I spent a couple of months training for one. The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago when a merc in a Deimos raped my MegaT.
"Griefer" things like this seem to make my game play better for some reason......

Ya, but if he had run into your mission in a ceptor an waited till you killed the key holding npc, stole the key and left you without... I doubt you would have trained for a ceptor because of that.
I've been killed by pirates in lowsec and yes they gave me a push to get better at pvp. They made me want to train for the T2 mods etc. However, from what I've heard from the "whines", the "griefers" in missions are providing no such inspiration. To be quite honest, I don't think someone mucking around in my mission would inspire me either. Just doesn't sound like fun.

The words griefer and griefing and their variations a used way too often, like: 'Whenever someone forces pvp on me and I don't want to, it's griefing !'
They should filter those words out on the forums. Finally some use for that filter.

Edited by: Jane Spondogolo on 10/12/2006 11:48:39 When I first started this game, as a 2 week old newbie, I joined a 0.0 NPC space newbie corp, and started trying to teach myself this game in "hard mode". A particular player, whom I wont name, however discovered this little honey pot of newbies and started preying on us in an interceptor. I found myself somewhat scared of "intys" but decided rather than complain bitterly, to get revenge.
So I started training cruisers, then stumbled upon a fascinating idea, the "murder miner osprey". Basically it was an osprey with webs, scrams , ecm and some pew pew. I mean hey, who suspect a little osprey right?
So I set myself up, and plonked myself in a belt , put a can next to me for appearance sake, and hoped the rats wouldnt shoo me off before it was too late.
And sure enough he came. He came swooping in to try and nail me and then THWAM, I webbed him, jammed and scrammed him, then started peeling missiles off him. A minute later he was dead.
I convoed him with a "good fight" and found out where he lived. So we picked up and proceeded to camp him into station for about 3 days straight. He got the message. None of us by the way where more than a month old, and he was a 15mil+ sp player.
What Im saying is that eve is a social game, and its one that requires a bit of bloodymindedness and chess like strategy.
But more to the point, if you get griefed, dont get mad, get even.
edit: Oh yeah, that faction mwd he used?... Kept me in cruisers for a month. Shame you cant salvage snakes however.
edit2: And now I adore intys. Best thing ever if eve stops becomeing fun.

Ok what you need to do is buy a PS2, get hold of a copy of FFVII, insert disc, play until you reach the Golden Saucer, de-equip all your weapons, enter the Battle Arena, fight until you are dead where upon you will receive a `tissue` now use this tissue to wipe away those tears and stop crying

Edited by: Merchantigus on 11/12/2006 07:23:42 I think the increase in whiney *****es is directly linked to the rapid population growth. most of the new people come from other games...you know which one *grins*.. and aren't used to the kill you and laugh blood thirsty realm that is the eve we all know and love. add that in with the new patch and people too daft to wait a week for the problems to get patched and you have our current situation.
the forums are a small % of the population and i'd say only 1% of these whine post are from an old player that still just doesn't get it. hopefully the new blood will settle down or leave before they drive the rest of us insane :)
*edit*
you have no idea how much i was expecting this to be another "eve isn't wow WHAAAa!" thread lol thanks for saving me a brain tumor :)
if i spent the time it took to debunk this recent *****fest i'd never get anything done in game so i've started to just paste this notepad responce into all of them.
Dear masters of the univiverse. merchant here. The Eve forums have had so much whine on them recently that the pure mass of stupidity has created a black hole. We're very sorry pls come fix it ktnx.
Love and kisses

Ps. Send more cheese. With the black hole and all you could just kind of toss it in this general direction and the gravity would pull it to us.
maybe people will get so tired of seeing that they will all stfu :)

To the OP: It is not the just the boards, but this particular part of it. Go to 'Missions', 'Ships and Modules' or any other part and it is more civilized. General discussion is where the babies slug it out. Some times grownups got to come in here and correct matters, but usually we just laugh at them and let them be

why adapt to something that is clearly broken? broken things get fixed anyway, and if they don't, playerbase has to point the broken things to CCP so that they would fix them. so stop whining. oh and 42 pages long thread means only one thing - even those who didn't ever posted on forums before has decided to do so because the bug they found is critical to the renewal of their subscription.
deadspaces, even filled with ships, are initially supposed to be hidden by natural phenomena, and it is not logical at all that once player enters them, they revealed to everybody with recon probe launcher.

The funny thing really is that the so called "griefers" themselves usually don't whine when they got creamed for what they did.
I have and am still doing pretty much everything that the pirate business is offering. I try to keep it civil though meaning to avoid smack talk and n00b killing. If I feel that I treated a victim too harsh I even try to compensate their losses.
Occasionally I got waxed hard for my bad behaviour and without a doubt I deserved every bit. And never have I cried over a ship loss - at least in public ;-)
Aside all that I'd like to mention that almost all the friends I found in EVE have been former victims of my endeavours - and vice versa. These friends have two things in common: sportsmanship and the understanding that NOTHING in EVE is free and nothing 100% save.
I believe that in order to have fun in EVE you should understand that it is not that far away from real life.
- Life is not fair. Some get really lucky but the mayority has to work hard for their ISK. - You can't live in peace if your neighbours don't like you. - Everybody is trying to bend the system. Some more than others. Some with sheer brutality, some with wit. - As soon as people enter their vehicles their personality transforms into a weird reflection of their own. - Shait happens. A lot. And naturally always when you really don't need it. - Police has sometimes a questionable attitude regarding their job. - Official reasons for military conflicts tend to be not quite accurate. - The weak hardly ever fight the strong ones. Instead they look out for weaker ones.
... and so forth
All in all live with it or die.

in real life you cah hide, if you know how and have relationships. those who want to find you will do so if they try hard enough. in eve the same thing, deadspace are harder to scan but if you really want to, you will find your prey. it's harder to scan deadspaces in new patch, not impossible. and we'll se how harder it is actually, maybe all it does is making scanner to do 4 scans instead of 2.
