Occasionally, when either leaving/entering a station or jumping through a gate, my screen will go haywire, with a mishmash of horizontal and vertical coloured lines, and there's nothing I can do to solve it, I have to hold the power button down and reboot. Only happens with Eve unfortunately, I run warhammer MOC, EQ2 etc etc without issue.
I run a Dell XPS M1710, T7200 Core 2 Duo, 1Gb Ram, 512mb 7900 GTX Go. I run an app to keep fans on permanently, I also have it sat on a coolermaster laptop cooler, so its not caused by heat. I have never gone above 60 degrees C on intensive video games, it idles at 24C for the CPU and 32C for the graphics card. I also run it in its native resolution, 1920x1200.
Anyone experienced this or something similar?
Thanks for any help.

Ive had this once recently but had a few things running and didnt think it was specifically eve doing it. Im running a 7900GT, a similar card to the GTX version (although laptop versions are even more different than their desktop counterparts) as gfx cards go, might be something to do with nvidia driver etc, i dunno.

On my machine it is a direct result of my videocard overheating. From these vectors not showing correctly, I was able to narrow it down to my videocard. I then unscrewed the cover to my case and low and behold the cooling fan to my videocard was shot. So i currently run Eve without a working fan mounted on my videocard like it was intended. I had to jerry-rig a case fan to hang at just the right elevation and just the right angle to spread as much air across the card so that it would minimize the occurances of crazy vector lines.
Try doing the same thing - boosting cooling to your videocard. If that works, your card is going 6 feet under in no time flat.

There's a well known fault on GeForce 7 series chips that can cause the geometry processing units (aka vertex shaders) to randomly suffer a catastrophic and permanent failure. The symptoms of that are exactly as you describe -- lots of random lines all over the screen and an eventual hard-lock of the system. But only in some games. Others run fine.
There's a 100% reliable way to test for this. Download 3DMark06 and run the 'Deep Freeze' test. If you get garbage all over the screen then your graphics chip is broken.
I lost a 7300GT to this problem and a friend's 7900GT died from it. |

Thanks for the input.
Definitely not overheating, I can rule that one out for sure.
I will download 3DMark06 and test for that last failure, hope its not that.

Just logged onto the game, and sat in station. About 5 minutes after logging on, had the same catastrophic failure, all graphics die, have to do a hard reboot.
Anyone else found anything?

Have done all i can do now,, reinstalled windows, drivers and eve,, nothing helpes. I guess I just have to wait for next patch and hope it is solved then.
