Okay recently I was killed by a pirate camping a 0.3 gate (oulley). She cllleverly stayed out of the sentry gun range (50 or 60 km i think) and fired at me with long range weaponary. I died which was fine because it was slightly better than being jump in killed. However it would have been nice to have been able to fire back at the pirate rather than just blowing up.
My point is that the sentry gun range either needs to be increased, or i should be able to retaliate without fear of being blown up by the sentry guns. Or alternativelty, and prefferably move all the sentry guns in 0.5 or below to the jump in points so that pirates can start camping gates again giving us slightly more of a chance. I am sick and tired of losing my ship at jump ins.

You can fire back at a person that fires at you no matter what. So even if he is at 60km, feel free to return fire (if you can). -

Not always, some guns are don't like any kind of agression, even if it is retaliation. á

The only exeption is if you wait a while after someone shoots at you. The sentries kinda forget you. But other than that you should have no problem shooting back right after you are attacked. -

Man, you have no idea what so ever do you ?
You want, to you own benifit, sentry guns at JIP, more range at ALL sentry guns, just so you can safely fly around EVE without any danger at all.
Perhaps take it one step further and put few sentry guns at each belt, planet and moon, that way the only fights in empire space would happen if someone was stupid enough to warp to the sun (since that would be the only place in Empire space not with sentry guns)
No wait, lets just put Concord in ALL empire space systems so that you never have to worrie ever again.
You are probably one of those that screamed for more sentry guns but still you are not happy, because we as pirates can still kill you by being clever, stop your whining for Pete¦s sake becaue YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE A FREE RIDE IN EVE.
Every time you undock you have the chance of being killed, be it in corp wars or against peaple who are pirates, dont come to the forums whining about every friggin time. Spawn of the Devil

As soon as CCP fix the lag related to entering new systems with people camping them, they will make the jump in points that gate from which you came (CSM), then you wont need sentries at jump in points.
I think sentry range is good enough as it is. ships cant do as much damage when they use weapons that have very long ranges, so just keep an eye out for people at gates when you arent in +0.5 space.
The whole point of sub 0.5 space is for it to be dangerous, sentries or no sentries. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

I also got wasted at a gate in a 04 system (my own fault - knew SI were in there, but greed triumphed over common sense). But as far as I could make out (things were pretty hectic) my friends from SI were taking damage fropm the sentry guns but could hang on long enuff in 2 BBs to waste an Indy. So, if PKers can laugh at sentry guns, why have them in game at all?

Ok for 1 i didnt say include all those options I just said 1. Try reading my post.
Secondly I only wanted sentry guns moved to JIPs instead of having them at jumpgates. So no i do not want them everywhere, I would just rahter have them at JIPs than at jumpgates. That would allow pirates to go back to camping jumpgates the way it should be. Once again READ MY POST.
Thirdly Jack, hope the pirating life is going well, and if i ever see you i will run 30 jumps without stoping.

I'm plunderi' left and right, lootin' and pillagin'
Actually, I joined Reikoku and that is a merc outfit and member of NVA so altough I initially when I left SWI set out to be a pirate because it was the first thing that popped into my mind, I am not pirating.
I get some fighting tough, and that was what I war primarily after.
So unless I find you wandering in space that is off limit you wont hve to run 30 jumps á

Edited by: Valan on 19/11/2003 07:40:23 The pirates have taken advantage of game mechanics. However this is low sec space and there should be risk involved. The thing is this type of camping is not an issue, its that easy to guard against its untrue.
1) You're not in safe space. 2) Check the map for kills and pilots in space. 3) Check local for pirates. 4) If there are pirates in local, the system is a bottleneck and you're safely sat at the JIP. Then its pretty obvious they're at the gate. 5) Rig for speed, change to applicable load out when you reach your destination. 6) When fired upon warp away because they can't scramble you at that range.
You were in a low sec bottleneck near the infamous PF-346 with pirates in local. Turn auto-pilot off and watch the screen. Use the tools you were given.
We all get caught out at times but lemmings are beginning to get my goat.

I'd have to say well played by the pirate pilot. At that range he can't warp scramble or stasis webify you. He has to rely on simply being able to shoot you down. You have option to warp out before he's able to target you or you have option to kick in you MWD and get to the gate.

Tech level II sentries have a range of 80km. Tech level III sentries have a range of 100km.
So check them first or make good use of shield hardeners.
Keep on flaming, lamers.
