So now that we've had some time to play with them and shoot stuff on TQ, what are people thoughts about the tier 3's?
Naga - Now that rails are viable, the Naga makes a beastly sniping rail platform. I love it. Talos - Brutix version 2.0, melts face if you're just gatecamping, but also great as a long range rail platform as well. Tornado - Natural extension of Minmatar design, go fast and hit hard. Great for bringing that extra bit of heavy muscle with you to nano gangs. Oracle - This one actually seems the mostly useless of the group to me, as the fitting layout seems optimized for an armor tank but a slow armor tank would easily get caught and primaried. That said, it still does fairly well at range, as it can utilize all those low slots for damage mods/tracking enhancers/nanos.
Personally I find them awesome, I've always loved glass cannon ships (THE BRUTIX IS VIABLE I SWEAR). I've already have one of each sitting in my hangar. They're EXTREMELY good as long range heavy DPS support.
Negatives? They're suffering from the exact problem I predicted and warned against--they're being pigeonholed. Because of their monstrous DPS output and tissue paper tanks, the only way to fly them is medium-long range shield/nano fit. Even the Oracle, with twice as many low slots as medium slots, still does better with a shield tank than an armor tank. And because they've all been forced to adopt a similar role, the different race tier 3's don't feel very unique from each other. I wish there were more viable ways to use such awesome ships.
My 2 cents, what are your opinions? |

mostly playing with a Talos and neutron gank setup!!
They seems to get more advantage if you play as nano ships and aim to fast hit and run tactics.
My current talos setup sports around 30kEHP top, but hey nearly 1800m/s and the ships feels even faster than the deimos in the old days, just perfect to land on grid aproach and blow anything there then run away. |

The Oracle has an amazing rate of capacitor regen. If you insist on trying to tank it, it can be fit to easily run a Med Armor Rep and a full rack of Megapulses simultaneously.
Mostly agree with you on the Talos, but I'm not sure how you managed to make a sniping platform out of it without CPU mods.
Haven't flown the other two yet. |

Naga, Talos and Oracle may be nice sniping platforms, but then, they're completely ridiculed by the Tornados overall damage potential and artilleries alpha compared to rails and beams.
Same goes for close range fits, but given their overall lack of tank which I'd want on a close range ship, I haven't really played around with those. A Megapulse oracle may be a viable option as a medium range ship.
The Talos may fit some niche because of its drone bay - personally, I haven't found a situation in which I'd use one though - using a shield Brutix appears just as good with better tracking and tank in these situations for the most part. morons- sting like a butterfly and-ápost like a bee. |

Looks awesome at first, but on a closer look it appears more of a lesson how not to fit carriers and how close range does't win against a sniping fleet.
Also: link needs manual tweaking to open. |

Try the video in Helicitys current blog entry, similar fleet in vastly different circumstances. |

Lets get this out of the way right off. The new BC's are CLEARLY designed with PvP implications.
That being said I have put some thought into using them for PvE operations. You see as a mole I have to rely on sites in my static for income as we have undoubted used all the ones in our home system. This means taking a Logistical Carrier and a small fleet into an adjacent wormhole. We of course would like to come back afterwords.
So how do you get BS level DPS without doing BS level mass damage?
Close ranger blaster/autocannon ships? ALL Tengu's?
You take a Tier 3 BC!
I have been messing with a few fits for the Talos and I have to say so far its looking doable. I have one fit that will be doing 473 DPS with Antimatter in 425's at 47 optimal with 49 falloff. Thats kind of epic for a railgun.
Downside? Your logi has to ******* know what it is doing because lets face it. These new ships are not very hard to pop. |

And then I warp at 100 from you and put 5/7K shots on you with my arty stuff, thing is that I will not even bother to move knowing you're in your Talos, I'll alpha you before you can warp out (most times)

But I live in a C5 or something so I shall now discuss using them to run C5's And then I warp at 100 from you and put 5/7K shots on you with my arty stuff, thing is that I will not even bother to move knowing you're in your Talos, I'll alpha you before you can warp out (most times)
Yeah, way to read and comprehend.
For me, i'd run naga snipers at 150-250km range. The sleepers, even with MWD, won't be doing any damage till they get under 150km range, and even that is stuff all.

I believe Tier3 Battlecruisers are a very fine addition to the game, and with their need to have logis around deepens the concept of multiplayer activity which is a core of EvE IMHO. Flying a logi is an even more rewarding role these days. |

Battleships can be pulled back from low armor by logis in a fleet fight while these glasscannons will pop from 1/5th of the same damage. They cannot be used for lvl4 missions either. Battleships are not obsolete, they are strengthened in their role.

To keep things simple (and over simplified)
Tier 1 battle cruisers - claymore, ferox, brutix, prophecy
Tier 2 battle cruisers - hurricane, myrmidon, drake, harbinger
Tier 3 battle cruisers - tornado, talos, naga, oracle
Tier 1 - tank orientated (ish)
Tier 2 - tank and gank
Tier 3 - gank orientated - Nulla Curas |

Battleships is not what's taking the hit, tech II in it's various forms is.
As far as the ship balance within the class goes i belive it's pretty much as expected, the only thing that stand out a bit is the Talos.
Naga: onedimensional, slow, have fitting issues (the Talos is much better at being a Naga than the Naga is at being a Talos).
Oracle: interesting both as a somewhat risky midrange sniper with pulse and with beams, functional even refit with shield.
Tornado: not as outstanding as on SiSi, but still an interesting ship with speed advantage, fitting, layout, alpha or falloff-AC.
Talos: stands out, a much better sniping-kiting platform than the Naga, impressive damage at range, can refit to shield well, and go derp with Blasters. |

I agree with he OP, I'm actually a little underwhelmed with the Oracle...I can actually do better with a shield nano Apoc... Surprisingly I think the Naga has come out as a very viable ship. |
