Originally by: Avanamantio Ill be installing a dual core CPU on my comp, so ill chceck on the issue. But anyways if the deleting of the img folder helps, but it gets recreated, maybe someone might try disabling the rights to write in the folder \img. So nothing would be created there. Its just an idea - might work but might aswell prevent the game from loading :D
But if it works its a one-time operation.
I thought about it, but since I'm not experiencing the problem myself it would be hard for me to test. Also, telling someone to delete the folder is much easier than explaining how to set the permissions up.

OK, this goes for any of you experiencing a reboot followed by a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" popup. If you get this popup, do not click any of the buttons. Look for a link that lets you see technical details. I'm going from memory here so bear with me. Somewhere on there there should be something that lets you see a list of files (the crash dump files) located in your Temp directory. Once you've found this, check out this article on WinDbg. This is a tool for Windows that will let you look at the crash file. The article claims your crash dump file may be in a directory other than Temp, but last time I had a crash I found the dump file there.
After you get WinDbg set up (including the part about the symbols), you can open the crash dump file that you found and analyze it. Hopefully, this will give you the name of a module that caused the problem. Look for something like the process name that generated the exception, as well as the exception number and associated codes for additional information. Post what you find if you're not sure what to do with it.

If you're going to blame anyone, blame Microsoft for providing a threading model that is making idiotic assumptions about the underlying hardware.
They provide the OS and the libraries to people who write code - who then make the assumption that the threading model is safe.
This is noted in at least TWO Microsoft tech bulletins - even THEY know it's a problem.
It's a problem with Call of Duty 2 - and Microsoft wrote that game.
Sit down for a minute, and stop blaming CCP.

I think this is a reoccurrence of the sound card problem which affected some players, including myself. Try going into windows and changing the soundcard acceleration to either low or off. This cured the problem for me. That which does not kill us makes us stronger. The Universe is ruled by three basic principles- Matter, Energy and Enlightened Self-Interest! |

i'm using 2400 mhz dual core proc on a K9N ultra mb with a Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT graphics card using win XP Pro OS. Ive tried pretty much everything now (deleting the caches, changing affinity on the proc, dl latest patches, turn off sound etc etc) nothing seems to fix the problem.
I crash to desktop pretty much randomly jumping thru a gate or opening up the map, pretty much impossible to play the game now without risking losing ships i'm even considering trying to salvage my old machine from the skip to play Eve on i hope this gets fixed by CCP if possible with a patch or maybe microsoft could get their heads out of their backsides to resolve this.

Check out logserver. Your problem sounds like it's different from what most people are suffering from if you crash opening up the map. Logserver will give you some more info on what's causing it and might let you get around it till they fix it.

A friend of mine has compiled an app using Delphi, that automatically starts EVE and deletes Img folder. So now i'm free from doing it every time manually.
Well, if anybody wants, i can put it to EVE-files.com or somewhere else... Antyspy testing is welcome...

Hmm, I was under the impression that the folder was created after you actually log in. I'd never had a reason to test it myself until now, but it seems it is only after you start Eve. Good to know.
I believe an application like that should have no need of accessing the internet, so anti-spy testing could be done just by running it and seeing if a firewall detects it accessing the net. Also, be sure it doesn't keep running in the background after launching Eve - should take care of the biggest concerns.

Well, I've tried everyone suggetions. I delete cache, still CTD when jumping. I log on turn sound off, still CTD. I delete .img, still CTD. I turn off sound in game, still CTD. I download suggested files, DirectX, AMD(sp), and yes CTD. NOW I log on and CTD within the span of 2-3 seconds, and I don't have the time to do anything. I just see the ship coming to a stop and then I CTD. And I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this. What did they do different with Revelations, that they didn't do w/RMR? And why is this only happening to a select few and not everyone? I'd luv to know what others are using that makes this game work w/o all this headache. Well, the point is if this doesn't become a "HIGH level issue" soon. I am going to leave the game.

I solved it by temp method. I have hyper-threaded computer and CTD while close the gate. And everytime I logged in CTD after 3-4 seconds.
After read this suggestions; I connected to EVE. Alt-Tab to switch window and deleted the Img folder. (which is ..\CCP\EVE\cache\Browser\Img) Returned to EVE Client, selected my char and logged in. And played like the days before Revelations.
I will use this temp solutions and I hope they fix it soon. Have fun

You can try using WinDbg as I mentioned here to analyze that dump file. Once you get WinDbg set up with the symbols and everything, open the .dmp file and type !analyze -v into the command box. Hopefully you'll get the name of the driver/module responsible for your error. Also, take a look at the lines immediately proceeding the lines you quoted from your logserver log. Chances are whatever actually caused the error is there.

An alternative to deleting the Img folder suggested in another thread by a helpful poster was to right click the folder and select "Properties", then uncheck "Read-Only". If it works you probably wont have to delete the folder.

This really is VERY frustrating....
Revelations looks like it contains some great features, but it not running properly on Dual Core PC's when the previous build did is a major issue.
I for one would put this sort of "bug" at the very top of the list over something like changing the requirement to use a salvager module ;)

well, while i'm sure there IS a dual core issue. It goes much deeper than that. MANY people w/ totally unrelated hardware are having these issues as well, and there has not been one mention of THOSE ppls problems in the 'known issues' thread.
i think aside from the crashing/reboots ETC there is an underlying issue of client really sucking up resources too. ppl reporting low fps, very high temperatures.... alot going on here its really unlikely there is one underlying issue here.
just praying they at least have an idea of what the problem is (thus the begging for some new word!). I see plenty of other 'fun' posts from devs today and yesturday on new videos and such.
I'm not doubting they are busy, but i would think a few lines of consolation for us (or maybe a technical update? !?!) might be in order after this period of time

Come to mention it, the game does seem to be making my fan kick in more now.
I concur with all you said and hope you dont think I am neglecting the feelings of those without Dual Core and still having problems. It is just frustrating that this is a known issue.
But hey, Alliance Tournament this weekend... that will be funny if teams keep CTDing ;)

I FIXED the promlem without having to delete the img folder at every login.
This MAY ONLY WORK for those that are having the SPECIFIC ISSUE of ctd's at jumpgates.
This problem is NOT hardware related ... (think we already figured that out)
BACKGROUND OBSERVATIONS: .. I have 2 Seperate eve installations on the same hdd, same comp ofc. both eve accounts(folders) were patched with the same 1 patch which was downloaded manually.
1st account gets the ctd's at jump gates and known fix is to delete img folder after login screen appears and works again ok till next loggin. (rinse and repeat etc.)
2nd account , did not have the ctd problem at all.
Both accounts running on same comp, from same hdd, just different directory locations.
To cut a long story short , i did some monitoring of what is actually happening to the img folder when ingame , WHEN you jump to a jumpgate the images on the BILLBOARD at the gate get put into this IMG folder (would presume for quick retrieval of same img at other billboards)
THE TEST: i cut and pasted the working eve's img folder to the ctd eve's browser folder. AND , Eve ran fine .. no ctd's anymore on the bad eve. I then studied what was different about the 2 folders. THE ONLY difference was a file in the good eve's img folder called INDEX.DAT .
The index.dat file was not present in the ctd Eve installation.
THE SOLUTION: i simply copied and pasted the index.dat file from the good eve version's img folder and put it straight into the bad eve versions img folder.
Voila , eve works without a CTD at jumpgates.
CONCLUSION: Once The index.dat file is located in the img folder your comp registers its location and from then on Eve works fine. You can even totally delete the img folder again and let eve create a new img folder at startup , and Eve will still work , once u get near to a jumpgate and/or jump through your comp automatically creates the index.dat file again in that folder.
Seems as tho if indexing is turned on in windows and u get to a jumpgate and eve places images into the img folder from the billboard and no index.dat file is present then it will CTD before it can create an index.dat file for that folder.
Since i did this fix i cannot even create the ctd scenario anymore, just doesnt happen.
This is my findings and i hope it helps some ppl to fix thier similar problem. I cannot gaurantee this will work on anyone else's computer or on any other different problems like the dual-core thing.
And , apart from how i was lucky enough to have 2 seperate eve installations and one of them worked fine, im not 100% sure if an index.dat file from a totally different location would solve the problem or even if turning OFF the windows indexing service would similerly solve the problem, i cant create the ctd anymore to try out any alternatives.
All mentions to the IMG folder in this post are meaning the specific IMG folder located at or in similer locations of C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\cache\Browser\Img
