I have been wondeirng which would i be better off training up for the next upcoming patch? Caldari seem nice but my friend tells me that in 0.0 by the time your wave of missles hit your target is already dead due to all the people using guns. Others just tell me missles are better for stomping power so im just confused as heck right now and im wondering which would be a nice route to go for?

Matari for PvP. Caldari for PvM.
That's obviously debatable, but something that is not: Matari for fun. When you fly Caldari ships and hop into a matari one... you wonder what the Caldari ship had for dinner and get anxious it doesn't stop all together to take a nap... ____________________ A gentleman is someone who can play the backpipe, but how does not. |

If you only do missions/rat, go Caldari. If you plan to PVP a lot, go Minmatar.

I can fly both. I use Caldari for PVE, and Matari for Pvp / fun.
Raven is awesome for Ratting and missioning in, but in Fleet pvp, it's missiles don't reach the target in time. In solo or small gang pvp It works well as a pure damage dealer. I have seen off a HAC and Command Ship (at seperate times, I'm not that good) in my Raven (with a bit of help from rats and gate guns), but it is definateley a tool for a job.

Minmatar are probably better at smaller scale PvP (debatable once the Drake is introduced) but for NPC'ing or fleet combat (The Rokh will be the new king of that) it's Caldari all the way. Lets not ignore that they'll be the only race that can effectively use ECM too.
Their problem with not being able to hit for instant damage at range evaporates with Kali. Their new, rail using, Battleship can hit all the way out to 250km with no falloff (meaning maximum damage).
I still wont train anything other than Minmatar though.

I was like you once. I'm a 30mil minmatar character now. I recently set caldari frig to 5 and now i'm training caldari cruiser to 5 because of kali.
Let's just say I'm sick of being the underdog, and if CCP wants everyone to fly Caldari then so be it. _________________________________________________________

I think things will be easier for matari in Kali. Lets hope so.

Train both. They compliment each other in all ways except hybrid weapons.
Shared skills. Minmatar shields, missiles, ewar... Caldari shields, missiles, ewar...
Then armor, drones and proj.
Now you can fully exploit 2 race profiles.

caldari skills in pvp are more useful as a support tool once someone else has locked a target down(web'd/scram'd).
min skills r best used to take the offensive, u can use auto cannons to take peeps down fast or u can use ur fast transversal and lock someone down for ur support to spank em.
have to admit tho for solo pvp min seems a better choice due to speed of attack.

Edited by: Futuri on 03/11/2006 16:57:33 Caldari are OK in pvp but most ships (are hard to use solo, since they require mid slots to tank and thus cant hold the target well.

Minmatar if you are planning to play more than 6 months. Yu will get Tempest and Vagabond. And later Sleipnir.
Caldari are nothing except Raven, which can be used in small group PvP,(Eagle suxx, Cerb suxx, Nighthawk suxx, Scorp is dead and suxx, Ferox suxx) and some kind of ECM. But ECM is support and we have lots of Caldari pilots wishing to help you with ECM.

You're completely ignoring Kali. The Drake is simply devastating at close range and the Rokh will easily out-snipe the Tempest at maximum range.
I'm not saying we Minmatar will not be able to compete, I'm just saying that it's no longer cut and dry. Caldari will definetly be able to compete at all ranges and still have the advantage with regards to PvE and ECM.
As far as I can see, the only reason not to choose Caldari are roleplay, anti-herd feelings and the fear that they will probably be nerfed before long.

The Rohk is good - the Drake is way behind the turret ships in DPS tho, and as usual you either need someone else to tackle or are left with no tank. Still a good ship but Hurricane >> Drake IMO.

minnie or caldari?
hmm... well do you want to be a toolbox or a bad arse pilot?
my opinions are not just my own and represent me, my corp, my alliance and the rest of the players in the game
minnie all the way! seriously though, minnie can be pretty skill intensive. i'd suggest starting out on the caldari path but dont neglect your gunnery skills (caldari dont have to be pure missiles). when you get the ball rolling enough to start training some minnie skills many of your shield and gunnery skills will carry over to the minnie ships.
dont feel you have to restrict yourself to one race's ships but you are right to try and plan ahead a bit.

Contrary to everyone's claims, I would say go Caldari.
The reason is simple. Minmatar characters require a great deal of skill points to fly effecticly and you will die a lot learning to fly them. For players with lots of money and looking for a slight bit of excitment, the Minmatar ships provide lots of fun in the smaller ships - but all round, the Caldari have a good set of boats. Missles go from the Kes to the Carac to the Drake to the Raven very well. Rail boats, which can be quite fun also move from the Merlin to the Moa to the Ferox to the Rokh in very clear lines. The Rokh will dominate in Fleet from the day it is released, and the Raven is still a fantastic ship in small gang pvp and is the premire mission runner. There is the Electronic Warfare line of ships too with the Heron to the Black Bird to the Rook and then the Scorpion. Dedicated ships for dedicated roles. The minmatar are fast, but this kind of clear developmental pattern is a little more difficult to see, and in many cases, you will be using split damage and to fly all the ships well, you will have to master both forms of tanking and all three forms of damage (Missle, Turret and Drone.)
I think you should train Caldari, and when you have some money and the time, and you feel comfortable in exploring the world of Gallente or Minmatar ships, then you should take the leap. FOr now, Caldari simply because their ships are the best in their respective catagories.

Edited by: Happster on 04/11/2006 10:50:07 I say start with Caldari.....up to Raven, and get yourself the basic missile skills needed for it....then go all minnies when that is done....
At the moment i can get a Raven and torps skills within the same time i do 1 L5 skill for projectile....even though i dont got any caldari skills yet...
Going for minnies is a loooong time investment.....But you should make it so you can have some fun while study all those skill needed for your minnie boats to be good :)

I started caldari, loved them, got into their HAC's, BS's, AF's, Inties, Command Ships..... and then I wanted a change. Im now going minmator, and am loving it! Autocannons are insanely fun to use, much better than sitting 80km fronm a target and waiting 10 seconds for a missile to hit. Up close and personal in an AC muninn is what I'm enjoying atm, just need to train armour skills now.

I don't have the time to read the whole thread so I'm sorry if this has been said before but the Rokh is coming out in kali so caldari will finally have a rail bs. So the missile/torp/cruise flight time isn't a problem anymore once kali comes out. --------------------------- Aimez- "oh ****, this is empire......."
