I absolutely disagree.
with stealth boats you can warp into a mining op (at a random belt). Completely call out the defenses of the mining op, move around, and have your gang mates warp to you (to avoid the bubbles), and completely lock down defenses with scramblers/ECM and destroy everything without them having any way to actively defend themselves (by checking local to see if hostiles are entering the system).
It is already too easy to gank miners in belts, griefers don't need more help

I'm going to have to disagree with you.
A stealth boat SHOULD be able to warp in, scout your position, set his team up and let them pounce. It's his lot in life, but as long as those miners (or ratters) can jump to a safespot the moment they see his tag in the local window, he is effectively neutralized.
What's wrong with that? EVERYTHING! Local shouldn't have that power to begin with. It's being exploited, and that exploit is ruining the realism of the game. Things like local and the 'players in system' on the map are huge issues with stealth, security and realism.
First, he shouldn't be able to just check his map, see the 'three players in system,' and come to find you. Secondly, everything you do in 0.0 is exposed. Want security? Hire some players to watch your arse.
Player interaction, above solo play, is what's important. Right now, local is for solo players. It can be used well in fleets, but it's 'uses' are all impractical and ignorant. All I'd like to see is this being rebalanced.
IF IT HAPPENS, YOUR GAME WILL CHANGE! You'll HAVE to use the scanner more, or die. You'll have to interact with other players for guards or whatnot, or die. You will absolutely NEED to stay active and vigilent in your gameplay, because there will no longer be that little warning to tell you when someone is nearby. You will have to do that yourself.
I'm 100% for this change. And I sponsor this message.

Local should not be an all seeing radar. neither should the map. No one should automatically know where any one else is in space. It should take time to find people and you should have to actively hunt for them.
Whats this mean?? Local needs to go all together as well as the map function for spying on systems.
Its time to make the game more exciting and interesting.

Some of us are **** near perfect with the scanner and still, more often than not, can't catch ratters/miners in belts. It is not balanced at all, rather it is hugely in favor of the people trying to avoid confrontation.
Why are gate camps so popular? Is it because people don't like flying around? No it is because a. its unsafe to jump into systems blind and b. you wont catch 1/2 as many people like that anyway. |

I agree wholeheartidly with the first post, makeyourself invisible from local unless you say something. It would remove the all seeing eye that is simply a chat room.
p.s. sorry for the necro post but I didn't want to clutter the boards with a petition or something.

Originally by: Axitikus I wholeheartedly believe that this would make the game better as a whole, would be more pvp, and carebears would have to use actual strategies instead of relying on a game mechanic.
How about removing scramblers then, that way pirates have to utilize actual strategies instead of game mechanics..
oh wait. everything is a game mechanic.
Perpahps we should make all barges auto-self-destruct when a pirate enters local, and forward the killmails to your inbox, and the loot to your cargohold eh?
All the pirates in eve were saying "OMG they're going to REMOVE LOCAL! in KALI YARRRRR FEAR ME!" and they add more to it, it's absolutely perfect.
I love it.
You know what's the sad part though? The only people who have ever died to pirates is the incompitent, this new addition to local won't make the incompitent compitent, so I don't see it having any effect on pirates, what so ever, you just want to make ganking easier, eh?
IT SHOULD BE HARD, hence the WCS nerf.
Thats one irate carebear
Nerf local, boost the scanner. Game would end up with much more depth to it ect... ------------------------------------
Sig was nerfed. Utter failure :**( |

Not as if you didn't clutter the boards with a necro.

DON'T POST HERE. THIS IS A NECRO. THIS THREAD IS FROM 10/06. THANKS. --=-- I turned off "show corp/alliance" because, to be frank, I'm ashamed of them. They'll be turned back on when I'm somewhere more suitable for someone of my talents. |
